  1. Friday I was at a Music in the Arts store and bought a mint condition, school used Yamaha, YEP-201 concert euphonium. They had just received it the day before when the previous renter decided to switch instruments. The salesperson told me that don't normally stock low brass instrumentation because everyone wants to play the trumpet and they are the first instruments to go out of stock on. Low brass are special orders. I got a great price on the horn because I got the impression that they didn't want it hanging around. That it was not a money maker. I took my new "baby" and left wondering about things: If this trend is correct and low brass is not being encouraged in schools will drum and bugle corps be one day populated by just trumpets/sopranos and percussion? And what about Symphony orchestras? Will we one day see a shortage of low brass musicians? I certainly hope not!
  2. Greetings fellow brass players, it is to you that I turn for expert advice. I recently purchased a Yamaha YEP-201 euphonium and I am not completely enamored with the stock mouthpiece. Could anyone please recommend some suitable mouthpieces. Price is not a consideration at this point as I'm just investigating the possibilities. In advance, thank you so much for any and all suggestions!
  3. A very big and heartfelt thank you to our brothers and sisters in the Hawthorne Caballeros (competing corps) for providing we in the alumni corps with a cheering section at the Alumni Spectacular on Sunday. It's always a thrill to see them there in the upper deck cheering our every move and encouraging us to press on and give the crowd our very best. When Frank Ponzo played the bull call from the stands I guarantee that every one of us on the field had a major breakout of goosebumps. They are our biggest fans as are we to them! I hope they saw and heard us in the stands later that night returning the favor. It means so much to us that they take the time out of their busy day to be there for us. Our show on Sunday was truly for all of them. They rock our world!
  4. Once again it was my extreme pleasure to be able to participate in The Tournament of Stars in Bayonne last evening with the Cabs Alumni. I'd like to offer a special shout out to the Bridgemen. It was a perfect night (didn't rain for a change). The venue was beautiful, food was great and you recruited a fantastic show line up. IMO this is one of the better east coast shows and the Bridgemen are wonderful hosts. A class act! Already looking forward to next year. Again, a sincere thank you. A lot of hard work goes into the planning of these shows and you did yourselves proud.
  5. Greetings all! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and were able to thank vet. I'd like to obtain thoughts and opinions from all parading corps members especially but from all who have thoughts regarding uniforms. We parade in full uniform including long sleeve blouses and heavy weight pants. We're in the northeast and the climate for these parades is usually hot and as such we're prone to heat related emergencies. I'm proud of the uniform but it would just seem to be more practical to be wearing a nicely designed, cooler short sleeve shirt for just these occasions. How many corps represented here have such attire and would you consider it disrespectful as some may suggest to tradition?
  6. Hi, I too am interested. Is it still available as of today, 5/15/09?
  7. Looking for one in good condition at a reasonable price. Anyone? Thanks!
