  1. 1979 Blue Devils - Wide open flowing drill, and amazingly controlled brass 1982 Garfield Cadets - This is when the evolution of drill started occurring. Touring with them in 1979, they told us they were on the 3 year plan to win (and we laughed). 1981 was still a more straight-forward approach. 1982 is when they TOTALLY changed the face of drill-writing in my opinion ... not 1983 1993 Star of Indiana - WAY ahead of their time as far as the decade of the 90's is concerned 2000 Cavaliers - When they changed their own style as far as show design is concerned, this began a decade where it seemed like they were the corps to beat ..... at least in the early to mid 00's Great thread! Lots of interesting reads .....
  2. Thank you! I have a few students/former students in the group and I'd love to see them! Not sure how much time exists after the show .... they get out of there pretty quickly these days.
  3. Thanks for the help. I'm really looking for the Troopers and where they are rehearsing. Anyone have any info on this?
  4. Blue Stars East Coweta High School 400 McCollum Sharpsburg Road Sharpsburg, GA 30277
  5. Would it have anything to do with the show NOT being in the Alamodome this year?
  6. Is there a list of housing sites anywhere for the ATL show besides going to each corps website?
  7. Heard from a friend of mine that the Jupiter instruments don't blow as freely as other instruments. A little more back pressure is the culprit for some of these horns. I'm sure the corps will still play well, no matter what the obstacle. Looking forward to hearing it all in Murfreesboro though!!
  8. Yes, there are fewer corps, and for a variety of reasons. As someone who has seen drum corps change through the years, one thing I miss is the variety in the corps identities. What the members do individually on the field today is absolutely amazing. No doubt .... Is this the Golden Age? Yes and No, depending on one's perspective. And the brass quality being better? Probably so. We don't have as many people "off the street" participating any more. There ARE many more activities for everyone to do today. One thing that I don't want to see is a lack of respect for what it took to get the activity where it is today. Much like I would hate to hear Lebron and Kobe talk about how crummy the athletes were back in the day. I would hope that each corps member would appreciate the history of individual corps, see where they came from, and how time has changed the activity. Maybe it's the way that I took it when I read it, but I hope the original poster can appreciate the "old days" and the people that participated then.
