George Dixon -  I noticed your use of question mark with the word ‘termination.’ I am not nearly as tuned in to the Cadets as you. So, I’ve been thinking about this possibility and would like your thoughts.

This situation is indeed curious following what many consider to have been a very good performance year. I’m hoping for a more innocuous development as an explanation to what happened.

There is a definite impression the Cadets are under financial strain. POSSIBLY, the staff was told everyone’s current paycheck amount needed to be substantially cut for the coming year for the Cadets to reduce their debts. Some paid personnel might well have decided not to work for less, opting to move along and find work elsewhere.

Plausible?  Such does happen all the time.

Either way, all my best to the Cadets . . . a true DCI icon.

I used a question mark only because we do not know.

At the beginning of the season, the corps was announced "under the directorship of Ron Lambert"......later in the season, when the corps started to achieve, it suddenly was announced "under the directorship of Ron Lambert and Denise Bonfiglio".  She is the CEO, not the director.   I am just stating facts, and people can interpret them any which way.........but my eyebrows raised when it was brought to my attention.

yes, that was strange, and I agree - I was like "what?"

    1. Not sure why you drink DB kool aid as hard as you do.

1b. Yet, during my time with the cadets organization you seem to talk a lot of smack and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to support the organization. AND YOU STILL DONT otheer than talk nonsense online. But lets address your wild comments shall we?

    2. Denise sure was a second vice president of QA at Metlife. Not saying thats not impressive or anything other than to me that position is nothing other than ive been here for a long time and I know what im doing in the QA section of the organization. Does that mean she knows how to run a nonprofit? no. Just like degrees mean nothing other than theoretically.

    3. Do I believe DB cares about HR? LMAO NO! There was a visual staff member on the cadets team this year that got removed in years prior due to his background, does DB know that? OH YEAH, she was thee one that recommended him to be let go during finals, does she care now? No.

    4. Do I believe DB went through the proper communications and paper trail of HR to let go a 1099 contractor? ABSOLUTELY NOT. It was a phone call to Thom and thats how it got out. Thom let people know as soon as she did it.

    5. You are correct we, the public, won't and shouldn't know what happened between closed doors, but to say DB is out here acting all right... Geez... thats a strong thoughtful hopeful opinion

I had a blow by blow "I didn't say that" response, but this pretty much says it all:

All I know is at least DB got the framework together which allowed the members to "do better"

This is an excellent point - HR doesn't exist to keep the employees' best interests in mind;  HR exists to keep the corporations' best interests in mind.

Which was THE POINT I WAS MAKING = we will NOT HEAR the details, because given her corporate background SHE KNOWS BETTER than to open the .org to a lawsuit. Duh. Never said it made her Mother Teressa

It's GD's typical peremptory behavior and speech at times... He finds a way to sprinkle on a bit of superiority in his comments for some unknown reason and certainly never likes to be called out.

lol and YOU constantly call for the current guard team to be FIRED even though they took a team of drum corps rooks and did pretty darn well - how superior is it to have this "they are not worthy of Cadets" attitude which you continually post over and over.

  6. Wow the jumping to conclusions and assumptions going on in this thread 🤪

Dennise was a VP for Metlife for decades, pretty sure she knows how HR works > knowing that it is nearly impossible to imagine a tiny bit of this termination (?) tale will be told by her or Cadets.org.

Thom was the most senior staff member, does anyone honestly think he was let go because of a member complaint about being woken up too early?

Clearly there is much more to the situation than we know - frankly NOTHING has been announced, but when they announce a new percussion team (or more) then we'll know the what, but still not the why...

And some of those commenting (2 in particular) - geez, it's just beyond...

I'm not sure what Hannum is going to offer in the program at this point. Mike is clearly listed as a percussion arranger, which was Thom's job before now if I'm not mistaken. Maybe its just as a consultant in the background just to give him a title but his role is clearly (and probably rightfully so) diminished as they transition.

his post was entirely self-serving. Nonsense to consider it helpful to this thread.

it really is amazing isn't it - it is NOT about the director, OR the volunteer, OR the staff member, OR the designer, OR even the audience member - IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well...he never lost in court for mismanaging a non profit set up to give scholarships that never really did. And despite the chaos of 2018, he took a job he didnt really need to take to keep it going...and it seemed things were more stable then than they are now. but then again you used to defend George all the time so there's that

I'm not going to get into a public debate with you on this topic - but things were NOT good under SL. Not even a little bit.

  10. My read on Cadets situation is >> losing TA sucks, but I think his wife being named "artistic director", his one son marching snare with crazy mouth open facial expressions all summer, his other son being the snare tech, Neil's son being a pit member - was all a bit much. Frankly it sadly reminded me of when GH named his GF guard caption head. And I think in the long run the corps would be better off without Darcie. JMO.

George,  I don't disagree.  It doesn't bother me when WGI uses the term because they are so close to musical theater.   But I have to admit, I wish drum corps (Inc BAC) wouldn't use it.  Also, I find it grating when current members use the term "summer band".  This from what I have been told is a term for drum corps in the college band scene.  And before anyone says it, no, I don't care what key the brass instruments are in. To me, drum corps is still its own niche with its own signature look and sound.

In any case, as I get older I am getting better at picking which battles are important to fight, and modern terminology is not one of them.   HeII, I used to be called an M&M instructor! 😀

yeah me and you agree - "cast" just sounds sooooo replaceable and temporary vs. member JMO

So someone says something negative about a staff member of a corps, and that makes them a misogynist?

    Got it.

    Makes sense.

not at all - my comment was absolutely NOT directed at TA - and it was not directed at anyone here in particular - it was directed at the general misogyny that seems prevalent in this activity - and in particular the agenda demonstrated here directed towards Denise. There's also a whole lot of personal agendas mixing in with the ongoing Cadets "Civil War" - change can be difficult. I get that.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Denise running the corps and organization was the stupidest decision ever.

The CFO/COO being a police officer full time while making 65K from the organization is ridiculous.

They’ve had a new tour/operations manager every year since GH left. Can’t keep anyone.

And let’s not forget they’re in debt. To the point (and I don’t know how true this is) that another organization had to bail them out finals week due to the bus situation. they have 0 money even after they split from YEA! And have accrued more debt.

her way of kicking anyone out of the board due to fighting and questioning her is just a wow factor. Yes they have by laws no they don’t care.

and the volunteers are extremely unhappy and will not go back because of her.

this new admin leadership is just crazy to think they can do this when they have 0 experience actually running a nonprofit sustaining it and keeping it cash flow positive.

    just frustrating watching this happen

given your own track record this is hilarious

  14. Traits typical of the misogynist:

    1. He will zero in on a woman and choose her as his target. If a woman does better than him professionally, he feels terrible.
    2. He will unknowingly treat women differently from men in workplace, allowing men various liberties for which he will criticize female colleagues or friends.
    3. He will be prepared (unconsciously) to use anything within his power to make women feel miserable
