  1. Quite honestly the only worthwhile and favorite moment Ive witnessed thus far is one of the rare times that all competing corps join in and play together at retreat... depending on the number of corps at that particular show, it takes about 600 some odd Bb horns to sound exactly like 70 G bugles... very little energy and excitement in the shows the past few years.

    Epically wrong!

  2. Ok - sat on the 50 at the show

IMO about a 0.5-0.8 point gap between Crown and Cadets (in brass)

SCV (should have been) about another 0.5 back from Cadets - big gap there (in brass)

Cavies (should have been) another 1 point (or more) back from SCV - HUGE gap there (in brass)

BK had a lot of ensemble tears and the brass was pretty weak and ragged throughout, personally I would have put Crossmen way over them.

    Odd night of judging

    Would have had it:

    Crown 93.8ish

    Cadets 92.7ish

    SCV 91.0ish

    Cavaliers 87ish

    Crossmen 82ish

    BK 81ish

    Surf 76 or so

Good night of drum corps though!

  3. I don't think anyone is missing that point. It's regularly been acknowledged that they have a difficult show (perhaps too difficult). The fact they're not quite pulling off those "super human", "super fast drill moves" makes it look very "human". Visual isn't the only issue though.

There's still some time left though...

I agree with everything except the "I don't think anyone is missing that point" -- seems like several folks in this thread are saying they are just running around "for no point" "doesn't fit theme" -- but yup - most of us see the difficulty and the stretch they have in front of them the next 2 weeks.

I personally think they will be unstoppable in the end UNLESS percussion drops too much to BD in tenths.

  4. What constitutes a reason to move far distances? Their show is about super heros and working together to do impossible things. If they wanted to tight rope across the grand canyon at 250bpm while marching and playing seems like it fits with the theme!

    EXACTLY!!!!!

Just like BD's scrambling around fits the DADA theme.

  5. Interestingly we seem unable to stick to the fact that this thread is about CAROLINA CROWN!

Na, BD doesn't get a hard time on these boards... Lol

Back to your little CROWN thread

Go back and read the OP and their original post

They set ups the discussion as a comparison of where they would place Crown compared to BD (and others) -- with Crown and BD tenths apart that's the comparison people will make

And the BD "getting the hard time on these boards" comment is precious. Go to any show outside BD's home turf, the crowds can admire the technical excellence of BD but their not exactly throwing babies. DCP is just reflecting of that. Lucky for BD the judges continue to define "GE" as a design thing instead of an EFFECTIVENESS thing. Shows which don't connect with the audience shouldn't be dominating GE IMO.

  6. I enjoy the show and I appreciate what they're trying to do, but they are not marching well. I feel that they are getting the benefit of the doubt because the drill and music design is strong (not necessarily the overall concept).

Blue Devils are moving at a different level individually and as an ensemble. Cadets and Phantom also seem technically better. If you're going to do something that challenging, then you need to be clean at the end. I just don't see them getting there.

To say they are "not marching very well" is a bit of an exaggeration - are we all THAT jaded?

They march and look wonderful, but struggle in the interim marching

It will get cleaner by finals but yes - BD will be CLEANER - but cleanest doesn't always win. BD was cleaner last year than Cadets, and we see what happened there...

    SIMULTANEOUS DEMAND still matters.

Crown will end up winning Brass & GE Music. GE visual is a toss up. It will come down to drums. Crown should get out the hoses and try to make the drum line as clean and effective as possible.

I still give the edge to Crown, more room to grow IMO.

  7. I was thinking the same thing. For those that were bored, they probably didn't get half of what was going on. You find that often with British humor...some people just don't get it.

    oh please!

I've lived there, half my family LIVES there, I GOT IT.

It just wasn't very good. Reeked of shoe-string budget (in comparison to the last few) and was filled with leftist ideals, slow pacing, bad "dancing", terrible "drumming", weak transitions, very bad "pop" music for the most part. It just wasn't very good IMO

Just because somebody doesn't like something, doesn't mean they need a users guide to it, or it went over their head. Same goes for drum corps :)

  8. This is the correct answer. The Cadets weren't close execution wise.

Well we all have our own perceptions. I felt percussion gap was HUGE in Cadets favor, and Cadets should have won visual GE by a mile. Brass was a toss up, but visual Cadets were more impressive. Again IMO.

I still can't get over the rude crowd. But that's another situation altogether. People getting drunk and stoned in the lot before hand didn't help matters.

  9. All Crown has to do is beat them once. An ALL IN throwdown. Then they'll know what it takes to do it ... and then they'll have the challenge of replicating that type of effort (I say effort in the truest sense). Once Crown knows what that level is ... I think they can maintain it and do exactly what BD did in 07 .... to BD this year.

It will happen in Allentown. Crown won't look back IMO.

  10. I think Crown will get a bit closer over the next two weeks, but then BD wins by a comfortable margin. See also: 2007.

But BD shouldn't have won in 2007. (IMO) Not the best corps on the field that year, not even CLOSE

    Judges just hated Cadets show

The other way around works too - last year it was a love fest for Cadets show, but BD out performed them. It just didn't matter

Sad situation really. When the designers determine the champion out-right.
