I don't know why DCI can't get this right. It didn't affect the outcome this year, but you're limiting the competitiveness of the activity when each judge is forced into giving .2, .3 spreads.
I did not agree with the HNC percussion score but I'm not going to blame the judge for it. It takes guts to put a corps exceedingly high/low like that, especially if he felt it was justified.
One of these years we're going to have 3 really tight corps that have a chance of winning. Are you going to give corps #3 a 19.7 and leave the remaining room for the other two? What happens if #3 is the best and you have to squeeze in between a 19.4 and 19.7???
There is nothing wrong with lowering scores as a whole. Say, introduce a Box 6 which is 9.5 and above, which only a couple top corps at finals will achieve. Screws DCPs historical comparisons , but allows for a more competitive finals night.
