  1. The Cavaliers have better tone quality than just about any other corps. They also have a far narrower dynamic range than any other corps. When the Cavaliers I go to school with come back after a season of marching, they have poor control at loud and soft dynamics. Instead of properly playing soft, staging and facing backfield are used to feign lower dynamic levels. I fail to see how both this approach and the "opposition's" mindless blasting approach are educational or entertaining. There are a select few corps that run the gamut of dynamic contrast with tone quality in mind--you'd just never know it by looking at the brass scores.
  2. First time the Colts have ever gotten 10th at Finals. They've been on both sides of it, but never 10th.
  3. I can't remember it exactly, but is it multiple tonguing? It's not horribly difficult..... unless you're getting your ### kicked all summer instead of getting time to practice your Arban's book.
  4. I don't mind if somebody thinks their corps is gonna win DCI and become Emperors of the Universe...... as long as they don't put other corps down to "prove their point." Congrats to the Academy. Congrats to their fans that were happy about their success without being derogatory. Boourns to fans of any corps that do differently.
  5. Colts would have to jump two spots tonight to tie for their highest placement. They got 9th in 1995. Not impossible, but it'd take some effort.
  6. Oh, I know. I just wish it were a genuine part of the show and not just sorta 'there.'
  7. Certain aspects of Wayne's column work for me. They might not work for everyone. It doesn't take a lot of research to find out that there are a ton of different ways to play a brass instrument, especially trumpet. What Wayne wrote is what he found has worked with most of his students. Plenty of other teachers and players agree and disagree with it. Finding what works for you and then practicing like hell is the idea.
  8. I don't think anyone that likes drum corps dislikes "loud." Loud = Fine Forced = Bad
