It's odd to me that this is ever a problem anymore. Seven years of many, many people observing this and corps still have trouble getting it right, especially early in the season. Rule of thumb ought to be: we need to turn down the electronics volume.
The Cadets just changed a LARGE amount of their closer. So it's understandable that out of all segments of the show the closer was the segment that had balances a little off tonight. Everyone who knows will tell you balancing a pit is much more than just "turning it down" And the process takes more than just 2 days to get right.

Cadets guard... Crown Percussion... Just thorns in a paw of a lion. I can't see BD showing any sign of weakness and for either of these two groups to be convincingly stronger overall than Blue Devils. And I don't really find this years BD show to be more remarkable than the last few years. It seems like a a show that's just "acceptable" will win rather than truely designed and executed perfection.

My DCI experience is due to my Mello tech, who marched cadets. My favorite show is cadets 93.
I said the cadets attempted to increase their GE with uniforms and lineyard markers.
Also said crown attempted to increase their GE with the gold tarp.
Didn't say who succeeded... Homers just got mad.
I'm evidently a bad person and a cadets hater.
Let me be clear. I really just don't care.

No.. when I show non-dci friends the activity... I show them bd, cadets, and crown. My fav show is cadets 93... my Mello tech when I marched was an amazing lady who marched cadets. I'm allowed to have an opinion.
Opinions are like #####... Everyone has one and they all stink. I just find it HILARIOUS that you mention your cadets "credentials" to defend your opinion. LOL.

crown's show is just an attempt at cadets 2011 Angels and Demons part 2. Now what else are other corps attempting to do and how can we make as dissmissive and cynical as possible? You next!

... Word choice definerly implies a bitter and dismissive attitude to an element in the cadets show...Old news. That was their attempt before the black uniforms to increase GE. I like both... but crown is still my fav
The thing is they only do it in certain stadiums because of where the number markings are so not everyone would have seen it. And it's a great effective addition to a show about 10. Not just an "attempt".

Very close at the top. Cadets just .3 off of Carolina, and only .55 back of BD. Not bad for a corps many were saying had an off night, and who went on first.

What's this talk of a Z-pull in the show? I mean c'mon George... Can we update it for 2015 and make an "X"-pull instead? More fitting, no?

Does the Cadet make the uniform? Or does the uniform make the Cadet?
Is the Cadet Uniform really just all about the colors? Or is the mystique really created because its just a copy of the West Point Uniform Design? The Cadets have made it their own for sure and that's the point... the Cadets MADE it... MADE... as in, the performers made the uniform more than just a copied military design with McDonalds colors. So... there's your answer.
Cadets make the uniform... and this corps, and every corps, is a whole lot greater than the style/color of their uniform.

Well guys take this with a grain of salt as anything can happy in the crazy world of drum corps but here is how I think finals will play out. Either Cadets will take it all or Bloo will. Cadets are really really good and I wouldn't mind them winning at all with a show like this. SO much better than last year. There is also a pretty good chance that Bloo will win just because there's so much they can do with that show. I think Cadets will mostly clean until the end of the season and Bloo, in addition to cleaning like crazy, will add some pretty big GE moments. BD is definitely in the race of course but I just feel like they don't have as much room to grow. Who knows though.
I wouldn't be too sure about Cadets not having the same potential as a Bloo to add massive GE moments...

You're very patient.if I saw someone like that I would not be able to restrain myself and say a few words to these "fans".All 7 corps sounded amazing last night. A few people on here know me, and know that I'm not a BD fan.. but that hornline!! wow.. anyway..
I was sitting in front of a couple of older (65+) ladies in the "B" section, row 12 if anyone else was near.. and I'd like to just say a few things to them, an "open letter" of sorts..:
Hey ladies..
Why do you go see DCI competitions? I only say this, because I never saw you smile, or heard a kind word from you, about much of anything last night. You were openly rude, and foul-mouthed, about every corps EXCEPT for the Blue Devils (I'm not harping on the Dev's here, just their fan-grannies)
Ladies, please take a moment to scan the audience around you.. I was there, right in front of you, with friends who are new fans of DCI, and their 7 year old daughter (who LOVED the corps).. You really made a serious BAD impression on them.
Let me just remind you of a few of the opinions that you made very clear last night..
"Cadets $*&%ing SUCK!"
"what the hell was that bull&^#$" (after the 'Coats)
countless remarks about corps back in "the" day...
and then during and after scores.. came a 5 minute tirade extolling the abilities of the judges.. including:
"that was the worst $@ing judging I've ever seen!" hollered at the field..
You made it clear to EVERYONE around you, that the Blue Devils were the only clear choice, and also recommended that no one else even bother to compete. That the DCI season would be better off (and this is another quote) " better off being a showcase of the Blue Devils, and everyone else preforming in exhibition"
seriously, I've been to many many DCI performances in my life, both on and off the field. I can regretfully say, that I have never heard anything as violent, and full of hatred, as I heard from you ladies last night..
maybe you were cranky because of the horribly hot weather?
maybe you never got into the corps you wanted ?
please stay home next time.

Cadets are a great corps, however it feels like they are trying to do more in 11 minutes than anyone else.

I think you need only see the spreads between content - achievement tonight to see who should be worried and who needs to simply clean. Some great numbers for some corps that didn't win tonight that foretell their future potential.

Lol. Gonna have to agree with wilme. Blue Devils last year definitely beats Cadets this year in terms of overall excellence. Perhaps this Cadets corps beat's last year's BD in terms of stamina.
...just how can you compare a I fished product to an unfinished one? I mean, I know this is DCP but the standards for comparison have really gone out the window here....

No way most talented ever. Blue Devils last year have them beat hands down in my book. Not even going to bother to try other corps beyond that.
They are VERY talented don't get me wrong (maybe most talented this year), but let's calm down a bit about best ever. At least for now...
How can anyone on either side this stupid argument compare a corps from August 8th to a corps on July 10th? Let alone "talent"... Please, your "book" and the other guys "books" are just fanboy magazines. Compare anything else you want but "talent" in this activity is simply to vague and subjective to be a point of serious comparison.

Well, I think we should be realistic and say that the errs are in both directions... However Audience members are simply unaware of things that are too soft because... they are too soft... they can't hear it! So, the data of "viewer complaints" would never skew to the "that sample/synth/microphone balance was too soft" unless that person had the understanding of the show that a designer would. Things being to loud is much easier to call out/complain about than things being too soft so that observation is a bit biased. And so is the claim that the designers simply "didn't learn their lesson"...
