  1. I don't know which side of Atlanta you are on, but we're driving in from the North. I've got tickets for Merchants Walk Stadium Cinema, 1301 Johnsons Ferry Rd in Marietta.

Now, I'm not sure (I couldn't find where we went last year), but it seems this theater had some tech issues last year (couldn't receive DCI's feed) and they sent us to another theater nearby. (Of course, NOTHING is nearby in Atlanta.) A bit of a hassle but we got there in time to see the entire show. So....I'm planning on extra time this year just in case.

I do know the 2nd theater had hotdogs and nachos as well as the usual movie fare.

    Have fun!

BTW--this theater in Marietta was the one that couldn't show the DCI feed last year. This year it was all straightened out and the picture and sound were great. Even had the Founder of Spirit of Atlanta, Freddie Martin, in attendance.

  2. Anyone going to any of the Atlanta theaters? I just moved here and was looking for theater recommendations, i.e. which ones fill up and serve the best popcorn. :)

  3. This is gonna be the mantra all season for Crown detractors. Fortunately if you've seen them live, you have a very good idea of what they are capable of doing. The show is challenging as crap but it's clearly within the grasp of the performers.

The rest of that post is just silly -- unbalanced and pitchy? Ummm....oooookkkkkaayyyyyblink.gif

I know of about half a dozen Corps who would love to be as "unbalanced and pitchy" as Crown at this point in the season.

  4. How epic would it be if they had different size concert bass drums and did runs on them? I guess I'm just a bass line kid with big hopes and dreams.

(Not knowing much about bass drum other than having to play one in college and Navy--VERY old school, one size fits all) If they can do runs with how the drums are placed on the field, that would be epic!

  5. Just spent a week at Walt Disney World and spent time in all the parks. I was expecting to see at least 1 Corps jacket, T-shirt, or hat but nothing. I guess everyone's waiting for the Orlando show later this month.

We did run into a nice lady who works for Disney at the parks doing Customer surveys. She noticed my Crown shirt and said she knows a lot of Corps members from Phantom, Madison, Blue Knights, Spirit, and Crown. She was obviously a big fan of Drum Corps.

Later that week we were in our hotel and a young man saw my Spirit hat and asked if I marched. I said "No, but our daughter does." Seems that he tried out for Crown Guard and (I think) was selected but then had some financial setbacks and couldn't march. I hope he tries again next year and can do the tour.

  6. Actually Pokerface IS the ballad! Way cool arrangement!

I got to hear Spirit at their Memorial Day picnic and for only being in Spring Training for 4 days--they sound fantastic! The new Yamaha horns do make a difference. The Opener is straight in-your-face Vegas style show music and the ballad (yes, Pokerface) is luscious. Luck Be A Lady screams Sinatra with a Spirit twist.

This is going to be another surprising year for Spirit!
