Do they spend as much time in the BD thread talking about what they like about BD as they do in the Crown thread talking about what they don’t like about Crown?

it would be interesting to count the posts.

I've was wondering the same thing recently. What if we counted posts from notable BD and Crown "honks" (do we use that term anymore) on both threads and rate the posts positive, neutral, negative. I wonder how the counts would fall?

I just don’t know what to do with all these CDs.  I moved on with technology but the stuff you’re left with…albums, cassettes, vhs tapes, dvds, cds…. I got rid of a bunch of it when we moved but I still have some in the 3rd bedroom tv console…just sitting there waiting for me to die and someone will have to get rid of my junk.

I still have ALL my old vinyl -- even the albums my college roommate's kittens used as scratching posts. My tech problem is very few consumer-level amps include an input for turntables these days and I'm just too lazy to order a preamp/converter.

And I still have a bookcase of CDs. They still play on the either BluRay player or the LaserDisc player.

    Have you tried eBay?

I listen to iHeart radio all the time on CarPlay. But I have a case full of CDs from the last car that are useless.  Oh well.  There’s a navigation app I paid extra for from Honda that I connect to from my iPhone, too.

It used to be that you could load CDs into your phone using iTunes (I know -- talking only Apple here), but I haven't tried that in a long time. And of course, using physical CDs means not using up storage space on your phone.

The Wife, too, had her case of travel music. There was a huge section on Christmas songs if we were on a road trip for the holidays.

They haven’t in the past. If they start that this year, that would be interesting. Lots of people are interested in the Blue Devils/BAC face off. The last time I recall this much interest in the results at Allentown is the 2013 match up between Blue Devils and Crown.

Then pls disregard my previous response. Bad memory strikes again. I edited it to avoid confusion.

But they don’t put them in Honda cars anymore.  Period.  It wasn’t an option.

    Look it up.

I figured. The Wife's 2018 CRV doesn't have one, but does let you connect your phone to the display screen and use apps from the phone -- maps, music, text, etc.

Actually, I prefer to think that the CrownLAND thread draws an inordinate amount of attention/views due primarily to the erudite nature of the of the Crown regular contributors and cognoscenti. We know our way around the OED and are masters of a thesaurus. A split infinitive is anathema to us. Some of us—yours truly notwithstanding—have actual corps bona fides.

Or we’re one of the most hyper sensitive groups on DCP. We’ll generally over react to just about any comment that could be even remotely construed as criticism.

I’ll be here the rest of the season. Don’t forget to tip your server & don’t drink & drive.

So the short version -- CrownLAND is where the Drum Corps elite hang their hats

    OR

We are adept at feeding the trolls.

  7. Just eyeballed some of this season's thread stats.

What is it about the Crown thread that attracts so much attention? Most views, most replies, most pages. Only a few show threads can keep up.

One would think BD's thread (heading to another undefeated season and another championship) and BAC's thread (on an historic run this year) would be getting all the attention.

    Just seems strange to me.

By the time I went to boot camp in June 1997, Great Lakes was the only RTC. I was from California, and they had already shut down the RTC in San Diego about a year before I went in.

Yep.  I think NTC Orlando is now some sort of commercial development now. I was in boot camp in Orlando in Jan 1973 and stationed there 1974-76.

Thankfully my pass in review was indoors, because it was winter in Great Lakes and single digits.

After my Med Cruise I was transferred to NTC Orlando which also included RTC (Recruit Training Center).  If we weren't on tour, we'd split ceremonial band duties at boot camp graduation every Friday with the other band units. I don't recall ever having an indoor graduation due to heat or rain, but it might have happened. It did snow in Tampa one time while I was there.

I'll just post what I got:

    DCI/DCA -- none

HS -- 2 yrs. Only started a marching band when I was a Junior, though we always had a band in the stands. Snare drum in the stands, trombone marching.

College -- 5 yrs. Also did some arranging. 2 yrs trombone, 1 yr snare drum, 2 yrs bass drum

Military -- 8 yrs total as a Musician mostly doing HS recruiting, but still a fair amount of Ceremonial duty which involved marching (pass in review, parades, etc.). Trombone major, later switched to guitar major, trombone minor. Also played synth, drum set, and trumpet.

I'm seeing other folks adding what they played, so I updated my original post.

I did count all the app lights from a San Antonio screen cap = 2,346.  If anyone is interested. 🤡

Don't get out much, do you. 🙂

The Wife used the app but really wanted to watch the performance as it was her first viewing of Crown live.

As we've seen, the app flashes the phone light during the count down. She said it also prompts you to clap in rhythm and to do finger snaps (she said it's supposed to be a rain sound).

There were also some swirly colored lights from time to time -- probably escaped from Bloo's show.

Someone tried starting a thread about the Cavies (if I’m remembering correctly) as a way to hype them up for their upcoming performance coming out of the Covid break. The mods promptly locked the thread since a Cavies thread already exists. Let’s let the mods play moderator 🙂 The ignore button is a great way to moderate things on your end. Give it a try. Thx!

My Ignore list grows every day. I've even taken some folks off the list as a trial run, but it's hardly any time at all before they're back in limbo.
