  1. - First ask your doctor if you should be doing it. - Give med history to your admin staff to have just in case. - Have stress test to check your heart every few years. - Legs and feet are the worst issues for me. - Hot weather - lots of fluid buid-up in legs. Take meds or ask Dr. if you are not on anything if you notice swelling in legs. - Get measured for shoes. Don't assume bigger/wider size is best....this ends up hurting your feet more. - Nice thick diabetic socks (yes they have them). They don't cut off the circulation as much as black dress/athletic socks tend to....especially if you are retaining water. - Good cushioned training/walking shoe to rehearse in. Inserts in your marching shoes for more cushion (Dr. Scholls). - Water is best but you may "P" a lot if on a water pill (catch-22). Too much GatoreAid is not good. Usually 2 is enough then water the rest of the time. (Dont drink right up till showtime cause it can cause dry mouth) - Less greasy/salty food if you have a choice. Energy/Granola bars help get you through long hot days till lunch/dinner. - No alcohol helps ....well maybe one after the day is done is okay...but not lots of (looks like he is drinking Guiness....) - Having diabetes equates to someone that has had a major heart attack in the past - so know your limits and know when to take a break. You may have to take a few more than the rest of the folks...they should understand. Take advantage of the breaks and rest..... - If your a overweight like me, the more you can take off obviously, the easier things will become (breathing/stamina), but I know its a battle especially after 40 - Enjoy your hobby and have fun!
  2. Like the idea of helping each other out. You all got my vote. Best of luck! Dan

  4. Hmmm... your opinion is noted (like everyone else's). Thank you. If groups have members who decided their season is over because of a handful of people online guessing at where things will end up, then maybe this activity is too tough for them. Honestly, I were a member and people counted my group out, I would be more fired up to prove them wrong. Playing the dark horse is more fun than the "chosen child." No one said our season is over. This was ME saying that THESE POLLS are POINTLESS in MHO, and in my mind, disrespectful to everyone, not just "my corps". Personally, I think it is pointless to make a "prediction" after the competition. You don't have to make a prediction... so we will continue having fun. To be honest, the main reason I started this thread was to bring a little life to the forum. It was getting a little boring around here. I think the entire exercise is pointless; with that said, continue having your fun...... I will be sure to take away the comment that was in my original post that said "if you are not ranked first in someone's prediction, give up now. No one is giving up. On the contrary. The young kids are probably fired up and that is healthy competition, and that I will agree with you on. - Sorry for the rant... and I probably should not have responded. No by all means respond.. You are not the first to rant at me. In the end, I still think these things are pointless. Good day my friend. Dan
  5. Let me be the first then..... I think it should be expected that one would get "Pissy" as you put it. What purpose does this type of post have so early in the season? I personally find it quite ignorant to place a corps before anyone gets to see the corps (including the poster most likely). What could you possibly base your assessment on? Smaller corps find it hard enough to "make it" without some knucklehead discouraging members before the season even begins. Larger, established corps that are trying to make a run at the top may feel the same way. I find nothing fun about it at all. I find it rude and insulting to the members that are trying to make their corps as good as possible. Dan Hines
