  1. I would imagine given all they went through to get all that is on the Fn cleared they certainly have an idea of what it would cost. You have every year back to say at least 75, with anywhere from 15-60 corps a year if you count all those not making finals plus OC/2/3/A/A60 involved.

Would I love to see 83 Troop again? or 88 Dutch Boy? Sure I would.full shows to, not chopped up. But I'm willing to bet DCI has researched it, and while I'm often skeptical of some of their claims, just seeing what they have gone through the last few years with dvd's, when I'm told that, I'm willing to believe them.

Most of us marched in a non-finals corps at some point in our DC history and would love to see those shows again. We all agree on that. I believe we would just like to see some "transparency" regarding efforts on this one. It pulls at the heart strings when you get taken back in time to see those old corps and wish you could see your own corps that marched the same year.

  2. DC fans, already a small and self-selected lot who seek out a music genre set apart from the mainstream, have an automatic preference for the DC idiom. So, I guess the answer to the OP's question is "all/most drum corps music is superior to the original source."

I mean, there may be DC charts that we think were weak -- that is, weak as drum-corps arrangements -- yet I'm guessing most of us still prefer those charts to the original composition.

I agree with you. This would be why I suggested that we take out our obivous bias (Myself included). You really have to be able to justify your statement. Maybe the real question is "What piece can you justify to a non-DC fan that the Drum Corps version is better than the orginal?"

We are all preaching to the choir right now.

C'MON MAN! Bring your "A-Game" and really justify that the drum corps version is better than the orignial.

  3. Time to bring your "A" game and don't be a "homer"

What DCI performed song is better than the original source music?

This is a tough question when you try to take out our obvious bias to DCI. With the Scouts pulling some Don Ellis tunes for 2014, I can't get the 27th version from 1982 of "Niner Two" out of my head. I actually feel a little let down when I listed to the Don Ellis version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAhTPATVI1Q .

Have at if you can bring it without the bias.

  4. It should be possible to do the following:

Collect a database of each show town's latitude and longitude.

Get a map that is true to latitude and longitude (i.e. a latitude corresponds to x and longitude corresponds to y)

Extract the database each corps' itinerary from DCI.org, and their logo icons from FN or DCI.org

Write a program to move the icons around following the schedule.

Create HD YouTube vids of various versions of that; one for top 12, one for OC, or whatever, and one for each corps.

A significant amount of work, but all achievable, I think.

You forgot to mention getting the drone from Regiment and recording it all on video from above.

  5. iPhone 3GS. I had the same problem, but about two months ago suddenly the old content started working. I assumed they did something behind the scenes, either to the file format or the streaming technology. Anyway, any show I pull up works now, so try again. I haven't tried everything in the vault, like the documentaries, though. Wait, let me check ... ok, Brass Roots is working now (that's the most important one, IMO. See it if you haven't.) and the HOF I tried are working, but The Beat and Legacy Vignettes still give the unavailable message. Does that help?

I am working with an iPhone 5s and am having trouble on multiple years. So far, no luck.

  6. I am not a beta tester and don't claim to be one. However, I have attempted to watch past years on three separate devices. Two worked fine while one did not.

I was able to watch previous years with no issues on both my desktop windows machine on IE and on my Samsung Galaxy tablet using chrome.

As for my iPhone, not so good. While I was able to login after some extra effort (When will they fix the logoff so that you can change devices?), I was unable to view any files. The old message is still there "this file is unavailable at this time." We got this message last year when devices weren't able to access.

Please let me know what mobile devices are working for you.

  7. At the Reading Buccaneer's preview show I was having dinner with two lady contra's ( one did five years undefeated with Bucs and the other plays with the Reilly Raiders alumni ) . Both fine ladies and excellent players.

When I marched with Bucs in 2010, there were a couple female contras/tubas. Great ladies and I truly appreciated their work. I thought I had it tough marching with the euph. They earned my respect and admiration.

Never be afraid to take on the challenge. The reward at the end if worth the effort.
