As much of a Drum Corps guy as I am, my son would never forgive me if I didn't add the JMU Marching Royal Dukes into the conversation.

Why is it a bummer? I was hoping for it to be in rutgers too but... Is it a bummer because of how big it is? I haven't been to the new giant stadium yet so I don't know what its like.
I am part of the DC crowd. Was still holding out hope for the show to be moved back to Annapolis like it was originally planned.

THIS article says that the August 7th TOC show is now at the New Meadowlands Stadium.
BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that I have seen Regiment's rep, there is no doubt in my mind that they are my most anticipated corps to see this summer.

Bridgemen
Muchachos
27th Lancers
Guardsmen
Kingsmen
Oops, I'm old and I can't remember anything.......
What was I talking about?

I'd be more inclined to go if it was nearer to DC...
I would prefer DC as well. Especially considering that I planned to take over 100 students. When it was first listed as Annapolis, my sign-up sheet of students grew faster than I could type. We had over 100 students committed within two days.
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt that George Hopkins will let this show go away from Northern NJ. A three day weekend for the Cadets in their hometown with DCI East leading up to the TOC show on Sunday is too good a deal for the Cadets.

the really big issue in the DC/Balmer beltway region is housing
I know of three schools on the west side of DC with great facilities that are ready to host. Unfortunately, that is still over an hour away from Annapolis.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

aww man! I really wanted it to be in Rutgers. But I think they might look into Annapolis, MA? At the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium? I think that was their initial choice, but idk for sure. But that's also a really nice stadium. I think that's where you meant by the DC area.
Annapolis was the original location. U of MD is another good college stadium as we learned back a decade ago for finals. The pro staiudms in DC and Baltimore just don't work well for a Drum Corps show. Having marched many years with the Redskins at both RFK and FedEx Field, I can speak from experience on those two.
-
I see that the TOC show on August 7 has been marked TBA for a location. Looks like Rutgers is no longer an option. They should move this show back to the DC area like it was originally intended. Let's hear some options for this show.

OK, let’s go back to the original question and get the "CURRENT" answer. This was a request for an explanation. I believe they wanted to know what the "CURRENT" and "APPROVED" G8 is and how will it be implemented. Arguing over what didn't pass, however important, is not relevant to this year. Please post the "APPROVED" G8 process so that it can be understood by those who want to know and leave the "UNAPPROVED" off with no interpretation or comments.
Thank you.

MBI and Cabs seem to be holding things close to the vest. Two weeks after their first camp and still no word? Was it just playing scales and warm-ups? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm guessing that John Hoekstra, being a native Cheesehead and Packer fan,
couldn't "bear" the thought of missing his beloved team lift the Hallas
Trophey at Soldier Field. :)
Go Pack!
I would accept that as a better reason than the possible negatives. SD has a great staff and an opportunity to improve. Would hate to see them miss a year.

I'm most excited to see Phantom Regiment - but they're not on the list.
Later,
Mike
Can someone explain why Regiment was left off this list?
-
This attitude is why you fail.
Mike,
I see you are a marching band judge. I pray that you are never asked to judge drum corps shows since you seem to have a pre-conceived opinion of Pioneer before they even put their show on the field this year. I also pray that you don't have pre-conceived opinions of those marching bands you judge. It is judges like you that give adjudication a bad name.

I am glad to see that you were able to get a response and even more happy to see that people are stepping up to the plate to help. Pioneer is set to really grow this year and with a little help, may actually turn a few heads during their 50th anniversary year.
-
When will they learn?
-
It's my opinion, and that of several others. Clearly yours is different. My affiliation with another corps is irrelevant to the discussion, so please leave them out of it, I don't speak on their behalf. If you think Roman hasn't stifled Pioneers ability to be competitive then you can't see the forest through the trees, or are too close to him in some regard to be able to criticize constructively. Many talented staffers have come and gone over the past several years. Have you ever examined WHY Pioneer has such poor staff retention? This lies at the heart of their ability to be competitive. I don't claim to know anything that isn't fairly common knowledge, which is that Roman keeps a stranglehold on the creative/design process of the corps, and refuses to let anyone have any impact on how the corps is run. Hats off to Roman for keeping the corps from folding for so long. If they want to be more competitive, they need to get rid of him. If you think there are other issues keeping them in last, every, single, year, I'd be happy to hear you identify them.
Having been a member of Pioneer many, many years ago, I can honestly say that there are strong difficulties in dealing with Roman. I had my own personal outs with Roman as a marching member. I also know enough former staff to know that things haven't changed with him over the years.
However, I must give him all the credit for keeping the organization alive and functioning thru many circumstances. Challenges that people outside the corps will never know, or understand. I would love to see Pioneer improve competitively, but I know that as they are "getting better every day," they are doing what everyone else should be striving to do. Pioneer does so much for youth in building character and developing students into fine young adults.
Many of us, who now wear a ring, owe a big thank you to Pioneer for developing our skills in the early years. If you think you can do better, put your money where your text is and step up to the plate. I know that I plan on doing that this year and hope that all of the former Pioneer do the same in this 50th year of Pioneer/The Imperials of St. Patrick’s/Thunderbolts/The Thing/I hope I got them all.

I hear the show may be called "The Devils Staircase"........
Does that mean they are planning on being walked on by the Blue Devils ?
This is too funny!

Think for Cadets Yuengling would be closer than Rolling Rock. But since RR got sold who knows.....
Too bad Carolina Crown is out of NC as my bro-in-law is currently based in Raliegh.
As for Vanguard.... yep Anchor Steam.....
As for the Cadets, I concede. Yuengling is my beer of choice when I want to go on the cheap.
Carolina I had to go with an SC brewery since they are officially in Ft. Mill, SC
Vanguard is the Anchor, You are right on that one as well.
I still like the PBR for Pioneer in honor of Roman B.

Whose beer???? When my bro-in-law started being a micro-brewer many moons ago his line was "We don't brew for everybody". After drinking some of his 30-weight my first thought was "Well ya got that part right".
Said that to a friend of mine and his response was "Yeah, Bud must really suck since they sell so much it it".
Remember, this is for the fans and not the marching members that are not of legal drinking age.......

Hey Everybody,
Box 5 is going to re-master the DVD's and send out new copies. This should take care of the "flickering" and artifacting problems. You will be sent a new copy, and get to keep the old one and use it as a very cool coaster.
FYI, this will not be done until after the Holidays. As we get more info from Box5 we will let everybody know. It sucks, but they are working on the fix.
Thanks,
Mike Symonds
DCA Media Director
As much as I hated the idea of having to wait to order, I am glad I did. Thanks Mike for pushing this one and Kudos to Box 5 for acting on the customer comments. I look forward to getting my copy and finally seeing finals. Marching has prevented me from seeing the other corps and I can't wait to finally see what everyone else did this year.
Thanks again Mike and Box 5.

Time for some results. It looks like the decision by YEA to move the show is not as popular on this forum as one would have thought. Even with all the NY/Philly crowd making their comments, the results are clearly in favor of Annapolis.
Annapolis: 70.27%
Piscaway: 29.73%

you post that like any corps can win on any given night...
and do you really think a corps gets noticeably better (to the generally untrained person, which is who they are trying to attract to these shows) between Sunday night and Monday night?
No one can gain a larger fan/customer base if they plan to play for the same crowd over and over again. You need to reach out to new people if you want to grow. Ask any sales person about that.
Right Jeff? LOL

that contract is signed sealed and delivered. Plus Navy's football team will be overseas I think
Jeff, I believe you are correct. Navy is scheduled to play Notre Dame on the small island in 2012.

I can't begin to tell you how much this story has touched me. I only got back into drum corps last year after being out of it for decades. These stories that I have read about Bob, as well as many others, that saved so many corps in the 80s while others were dropping out remind me how much I enjoyed, and now enjoy again, my drum corps days. Being a midwest guy, I can truly appreciate all that Bob did for so many.
Thank you for sharing your kind words about a man I never had the priviledge to meet. Only to know about from those who were there while I marched with another corps.
