  1. Eh? Perhaps "complain" is the wrong word but I've seen plenty of posts with snide little jabs such as "Scouts Of Indiana", "Florida Crusaders" and the "Blue Stars Of Indiana" to at least detect some dissatisfaction over where corps rehearse.
  2. Uhh...don't we think we are all (including but not limiting to the OP) taking what was intended to be just an informative post a little too seriously? It was simple information and not intended to become a big long discussion IMO. Not a big deal, really. Glad to see the Scouts spend some time in their home state. Now lets move on, shall we?
  3. Sweet! I wonder if they will get any time in Warhawk Stadium while in Whitewater.
  4. Last I heard, the Bluecoats show is going to be... Bye-Bye-Blues - by Frederick L. Hamm Autumn Leaves - by J. Kosma, Johnny Mercer Body And Soul - By Johnny Green
  5. I think you might have misunderstood my post. I was not bashing the Brunswick band (they are very good). I was simply pointing out someone else's foolishness in their comparisons of Brunswuck with Broken Arrow. And Broken Arrow did not do the same show, either, which is why I'm not even sure why the user I replied to brought them up.
  6. "Entertaining"? Perhaps. "Higher quality"? Not a chance (and laughable). Broken Arrow was the 2011 Bands Of America Grand National Champion. South Brunswick (though good) is not even comparable to Broken Arrow. Please, don't be ridiculous.
  7. A NEW and UNIQUE ....ACCOUSTIC.....instrument WITHIN the mallet family that allows for INNOVATIVE sounds and effects that does NOT sacrifice the integrity of the drum corps activity AND........as the above video says itself at around the one minute mark......"WITHOUT THE NEED FOR ACCOUSTIC OR ELECTRIC AMPLIFICATION" (THEIR words....not mine). I...........................EFFFING...............................................................APPPROVE!!!!!! :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: Anyone who says innivation can't be accoustic has now been proven wrong. I don't just mean drum corps, either. I'm talking "MUSIC".....PERIOD!!!!
  8. You don't even know how to have a civil discussion. As for "respecting the kids"? Yeah, your profile pic really shows "respect" for that Madison kid, doesn't it? You aren't fooling anyone. Oh and I never suggested that they not trust their staff either. Once again, putting words in my mouth.
  9. You completely misunderstood my post to begin with but that's ok. I really don't care because all one has to do is click the link to view your profile and look at your very cruel and distasteful profile pic to realize that you are obviously a troll with no class and ZERO respect for the kids who participate in this activity. Have a nice day.
  10. Yes, you ARE "confused" as you confess. Because I NEVER said anything close to that stupid statement you just made. "Suck ###"? Really? Is that what you think I said? If so, you're wrong. I never said any such thing unless asking them to re-visit their musical style from perhaps 1986, 1988 or 1990 is asking them to "suck ###". If anyone things those years "sucked ###" they are an idiot. Get real and stop putting words in my mouth. And you are a troll.
  11. You are correct about all of this. However, you must have missed my whole point. The idea behind the "request" I made is that they "forget about winning" for a year. The Blue Devils have nothing to prove. They more than any other corps in this activity could get away with taking a year off of the winning quest and just entertain. Nothing else. Again though, I'll still love what they do if that never happens (and it probably won't). Just a wish is all.
  12. Photographer Jim, my apologies. I was not clear enough in what I meant by the "4th or place 5th finish" comment (and I'm giving you a "green plus" for the way you presented this). You are absolutely right that there is no reason why a good old fasion 80s-90s BD jazz show could not do well today. I'm just personally saying that if taking it back DID happen to result in a 4th or 5th place finish, I would take it. I did not mean that it absolutely would be the result. It might not be. As mentioned already, they did Channel One (quite a bit of it too) in 02 and still placed in the top 2. Obviously 10 years ago but still very much within a progressive time period. I hope that makes more sense than the way my original comment was worded. Thanks for bringing that up. You gave me a chance to clarify.
  13. From my understanding, that (see underlined/bold") is what they are doing. Hence the title "Reframed". According to a source I've been in contact with from within the organization, each movement if this show has a "Madison Favorite" that is "framed" by a movement from pictures. I think it's only 3 or 4 movements though. Not the full amount of movments within Mussorgski's work as you were speculating. But yes, unless the person I've talked to is just messing with my head (and that's possible)...the show is Madison Trademark music mixed with movements from Pictures. We shall see for sure in just a few months.
  14. Blue Devils, I love you. I'm not one of those people who hates what you do in this era of drum corps. The innovations and the genius in your shows designs are unmatched, which is why you win so much. Nothing or nobody can take that away from you, You are DCI's most relentless drum corps. Anyone who disagrees is simply either jealous or in denial. However, I would like to make a request that for one year (this year it's probably too late because the show is already picked) can you just forget about going for the "big win" and do some old Blue Devils straight forward jazz. I know there are elements of jazz in every modern show the Blue Devils do (even in 08 a touch of Gordon Goodwin), but for one year can you do it old school? What do you have to lose? Nothing, you already have 14 titles. Nobody can take that from you. What do you have to prove? Nothing, it's already been proven WITH your 14 titles. You can do what no other corps can do. So, give us all (including you) a breath of fresh air and give it to us old BD fans the way it used to be done...then go back to winning the next 7 years. All I'm asking is for one year. I would take a 4th or 5th place Blue Devils that hits me like 1986, 1988, 89, 92 or 93. Again, you have nothing to lose or prove and one 4th or 5th place season for some in your face old BD is not going to kill you. I still expect many more wins and many more seasons of "holy crap that's never been done before" innovation (which I DO love also). Take a year and just have fun. Just a request. You have to do what's best for the Blue Devils organization and I respect that either way. I will say I thought last year (2011) was a step in that direction already. Musically, there was definitely some vintage Blue Devils moments in there. The INTRO... I'd like to hear even more of it.
  15. Nope, think less symphonic than that. Again, I'm going of of pure hearsay....but....you aren't even in the ball park.
  16. LOL!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Ok, on THAT note............I'll just do as kickhaltsforlife has suggested and "step away from the computer" (or at least this thread)...because if You only knew what my........(never mind, I'll just stop right there). *stepping away*
  17. I'm not suggesting we not utilize that palette. Again, I am not advocating NOT using the electronic marching percussion. I just don't agree with using it EXCLUSIVELY! THOUGH........if you really want my answer to that question...........most of the "colors" provided by Roland SO FAR....are inferior to the real thing. THAT'S why. But, as I keep saying. I'm not against it, as long as it's only an addition to the ensemble and not a replacement. Look....I wish I had the money in my own bank account because I would go buy one of those Rolands for myself if I did. I think they are cool! I really do. I just don't think it's a wise investment to do away with your entire line of acoustic marching percussion to use the electronic marching drums as a full blown replacement. I think you are actually limiting yourself MORE by doing that. GET the electronic percussion. USE the electronic percussion....but don't throw the baby out with the bath water by making it an exclusive replacement for acoustic marching equipment. There is no reason to. Us it IN ADDITION TO....NOT INSTEAD OF.
  18. I'm trying to think of a way to say what I am about to say without it appearing as a personal jab or rude. I am, however, an imperfect human (just like the rest of us) and can only promise to do my best. So, if I fail in the "tact" category, please forgive me now. Any high school program that would choose to purchase electronic percussion equipment INSTEAD OF tympani and mallet percussion has major issues in educational priority and is not providing their percussion students a quality education IN the field of percussion. I would love to see how well a high school wind ensemble does at a festival with tympani and mallet parts performed on electronic percussion equipment instead of the real thing. Not sure how it is in your area, but around my neck of the woods, such a performance would be laughed off the stage with a "gee that was cute...I hope you enjoy your "III" or "IV". Now go get yourself a new band director". Look, I've said it at LEAST 50 times already. I'm not against electronic percussion. In fact, I LIKE electronic percussion when it's in it's proper place. My contention is against the idea of it completely replacing good acoustic percussion equipment. It's meant to be a novelty and NOTHING else. Read the title of this thread. It says "Roland Electronic Marching Percussion". This thread is intended to be specifically about that. And yes, it HAS been pretty limited to it throughout most of the thread. I ought to know. I count for probably more than 50% of the posts ON the thread. LOL! So yes...lets stick to the topic. We are discussing "Electronic MARCHING percussion"....and if you really want to discuss it with ME (I don't mind)....you really should stick to what my contention is. I like the idea of electronic marching percussion...but frown on the idea of using it exclusively. Lets either discuss THAT and that only...or be done.
  19. Kamarag, yes they are facts. Every high school owns a tympani regardless of whether they use one in their marching percussion activities or not. Ever heard of a concert band? Remember, we are not talking about drum corps here...check the context of the discussion. Same with mallet instruments. Every high school owns mallet instruments regardles of marching use. So no, we are NOT talking about replacing any of that. We are talking ONLY about replacing acoustic battery (much more economical and practical) with electronic battery (much less economical and practical...ASIDE from isolated novelty use). YES! THAT IS A FACT! Finally....OH GREAT!!! Let's take away the need for kids to hone their keyboard skills (a must for any college music major...as is tympani) because the new marching percussion can now generate those sounds (as toy and video game like as they sound). REAL EDUCATIONAL!!!
  20. You think tympani and other front ensemble instruments are going to be phased out with an introduction of electronic battery percussion? I don't. No...my fact still remains. Nice try though. We are ONLY talking about replacing battery percussion, Kamarag. That's IT! Front ensemble equipment will NEVER go away. We are only talking about replacing acoustic battery with electronic battery....making for a much more expensive budget than acoustic battery. That IS a fact!
  21. It's also not as easy as you think. Even more...it's MORE expensive than you want to admit. There is NOTHING about it that is "more economical than acoustic drums". That is a FACT whether you want to believe it or not.
