For me,  it is a gentle letdown because I am deep in the weeds of drill design right now.   My band camp begins this coming Monday, and it is my 45th year of doing this.   Back in the 70s and 80s, it was done on essentially glorified graph paper.   About 25 years ago, PYWARE was developed, and now we also use an app called UDB to actually teach the show.  No more dot books!  😀

Ha. I remember "doing dots" late at night in the early 80's.

“I no longer know what the he*l to call this activity . . . but it’s d*mn good and I can’t wait to see more!”

Agreed. While I miss the pre-amplified experience unique to a drum corps performing on a 100-yard stage (SCV Miss Saigon helicopter effect comes to mind), I'm grateful for the Garden of Love, keytars, harmonicas, and all of today's creative drum corps sights and sounds...and excited for what comes next.

  3. Why is it rude if audience members express different levels of enthusiasm? If I distract you during a performance by talking, arriving late, (or being the guy who yells, "They're always ready!"), that's rude. I reserve standing ovations for authentic expressions of enthusiastic appreciation, not mandatory superficial courtesy rituals.

My more common experience at quarter/semi-finals has been fans of higher-placing corps not giving lower-placing corps standing ovations. I'm referring to those who only arrive when the higher-placing groups (or their favorite) take the field. Is that rude? Or do they have the right to be in the lot or elsewhere?

For BD members, I'm confident the percentage of audience members who were on their feet at semi-finals will be a non-issue as they enjoy the many thousands who will be applauding as they receive their gold medals Saturday night.

I am confused on driving from Indy when they are heading to Indy lol

Ha. The same thought I had when it started raining while the Crossmen were performing. 🫤

I mentioned in another thread, the invite from @kevingamin was too enticing. That, and a friend in Canton who attended her first show as a spectator tonight (as a kid she worked concessions during shows at the old baseball stadium Ames Field in MC). Bummed to not see the full shows, but well worth the drive to hear every corps in-person tonight... outdoors... from the 50 yard-line.... oh, and Phantom's warm-up!

A lot of corps will be participating in parades?  Really?  I have no idea but my guess is no world class corps participating in parades anymore. That seems to be a relic of a bygone era. Nowadays We even have top three corps who haven’t participated in a competition yet by 4th of July

Colts, Cavies, Blue Stars, Music City, and Madison are all participaing in parades today.
