i just wanted to inject some history here and maybe some old timers will remember this. in 1976 we did the 1st olympic style retreat for finals. all the corps played the star spangled banner while we marched along the track. the horn arrangment was truman crawfords. the drum arrangement was i believe rod goodharts. we got them in june. it was fun. didn't sound to good i'm sure but it was a blast.
I remember the Olympic retreat, I don't remember the unified playing of the National Anthem though admittedly after Lefty Mayer passing the night before, we(Sky) were kind of in a fog.

And???, Let's let chickens hatch before we count them

I grew up playing on a tilted snare drum wearing a sling and leg rest, however, I was taught to play in a manner that was perpendicular to the ground. When I went to playing on a level surface, it made no difference and I've gone back and forth over the years. btw, some would say that drums were made level just for the purpose of advanced marching techniques.

Per John Wooten on Facebook 6:10 pm today
"I am sorry I have not posted more news about Marty lately, but recently there hasn't been a lot of good news. Today Marty decided to move on. He has been released from the hospital and all tubes have been removed. He is comfortable and at home. He requested no visitors during his final days. God Bless Marty Hurley".
This is sad news, I hope he is pain free and has peace in his time left.

if people arent banging on the door, you have to go bang on their doors.
I know at 2 local band championships, you see up to 4 corps having tables to recruit.
when Westshore hit rock bottom after 94, we were out every weekend at band shows, contacting alumni, whatever it took.
While i agree with you, sometimes the doors you bang on don't bring exactly what you desire or need, as you know there's more to it than just filling spots.

I really enjoyed 09,10 but this year it went to a new level

Perhaps the synergistic effect of the overall corps performance propelled the guard to that extra tenth.

All the best to you Tom, even though you won't be active in DCA, you'll always be a part of drumcorps.
-
All I will say is that in the final analysis, it was a difference of one tenth and while it must sting terribly, it doesn't take anything away from the fact that the Hurcs guard was incredible this season

For a bunch of folks the only cleaning that was accomplished was bailing water and getting debris away from their property

I think the week with no scores is good for everyone
very well could be

Hey Frank ... not sure where you're online but, CT (especially the Bridgeport area) got whacked pretty bad ... over 600,000 customers without power ... mine went out Sun am around 6:00 and won't be on for a few days ... trees and debris everywhere ... even my Tiki Bar bit the dust as the very end of the storm ... gonna take some time to get power back to most ... had to come into work just to recharge everything and shower up in the health club ...
Anyway ... hope everyone is okay ... think I'll be grilling outside tonight ... lots of stuff in the freezer thawing out ...
Be safe all ...
Andy "not the Roo" Lisko
Actually Andy as it turns out, Irene was a bit more than first met the eye. Not too much much in the way of power outages but, lots of flooding and tree damage

For those of us who have marched, watching the progression of demand in drill over the last 6 years has been amazing. Still, as a fan, I don't mind a little park and bark if it is well written into the drill and music. Can't overdo it obviously.
My signature reveals some bias, but I think MBI has a tough drill. So much so it makes me wonder if I'm truly in my retirement years. Its one thing to march this drill and another alltogether to play well while doing it. They have some impact points where halted for sure. Who doesn't? But I think they fit well within the mood and mission of the music.
It's a d@mn cool show whatever

Ummmm....I'm not sure what show you watched nor how relevant your approximation of your approximation is, but I can tell you that I have over 150 charts in my set book and my halts are few and far between.
150!!, I'm tired just thinking about that,

I heard it was moe windy, clearly we are on different sides of the argument here.
Moe Windy, I think I met him at the Hall of Fame luncheon in 2007, A legend

What that might mean is that you really have to get in your seat at the beginning of the Finals show, because the groups going on first may be better than the groups performing later.
I will say this, Class A is Bringing it this year

Ok, let's get back to the predictions. I predict since we've already had a earthquake and a hurricane, next weekend will be excellent weather-wise and Championships will be a blast.

My understanding is that the Class A corps would still perform in the Class A slots that they finish in. They would however attain top ten voting rights

It's funny you mention Christie.....I was thinking about an hour ago, that I have seen Christie on TV, or heard him on the raido every half hour or so, and not one word from our Gov in NY. Either Christie is just starving (yeah....like he's EVER starving) for attention, or the Gov of NY just thinks that this rain storm was just that....a rain storm!
Which I'm very glad that it just turned out to be a bad rain storm

We will see on Saturday
