  1. I wasn't fired, oh and I wasn't the director, so if you couldn't get that bit of info right..... By the way you should remember me, you emailed asking what corps were helping Canos kids find spots in 2005 (After they went inactive) East Coast Jazz being one of them, even offering our kids some help. (Although you never committed to the Canos that year and you were given information anyways.) It's funny how you can't take the word from people who were closer to what was going on or people who have been here much longer than you have who, I'd think would know a lot more about what goes on (Not talking about myself). So people just :feednotroll: No matter what is said by some here, some people will continue to argue, give one word replies or reply with false information.
  2. As you say: Suddenly moved back??? If I remember correctly there was a far enough notice? C'mon the camp wasn't all of a sudden switched and moved to Bend, OR. It was right where most of the percussion members lived!! The thing I find troubling is the fact that others were comitted to other corps? Really? If I remember correctly a member can not actively pursue two corps, he or she is a part of one corps commits to them, pays their camp fees and dues and if another corps does the same there could be some trouble. That's why you are asked this in papers you fill out at camps and don't tell me you didn't sign anything like this! Someone in the activity for 30+ years wouldn't forget that! Tom correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't members committed to one corps need a release??.
  3. I got mine at the Stuff Shop in Iowa City. Kind of like a Goodwill. You might want to try ebay also
  4. Homework is done, wife and kid are asleep...sooo needless to say..... I usually don't have time to post, but I felt I had to post for this topic. Topic 1 - Alumni Sean mentioned something about getting Americanos alumni together to get something going, plus I received an email from a former member on this same subject. I made up a list and it is current to 1986 at www.geocities.com/dci99dcuk00 Any address or contact info would be at 1615 Drum Corps Dr. in Menasha on a plethora of papers located at the hall. Plus there is just so much other stuff that should be preserved before it is "taken" by anyone else. (Loved the 1936 Trophy) Topic 2 - The Americanos :sos: (From first hand and accounts, unless otherwise noted. Some of this is to provide a small background into what happened and what lead up to the events mentioned above) Well I had the privilege of knowing and working with Linnie for the good part of his 30's. It is amazing what someone can learn from the man as he is full with a wealth of knowledge. He was the Canos TD in 04 and from what I heard tour directed, cooked, and drove even though he was only hired to do one of those jobs ( I think he did everything short of ####### GOLD bricks, which would help any corps!). He was given a tour , in my opinion, that barely happened and was told "take them and compete" with almost no support. The next year (05 Season) I was on board. The percussion staff was replaced and a new one hired, Adam and Bart and company. Rifts in the staff happened between the old and new staffs and it came to a head when one of the "old" staff members did the opposite of what the director asked and caused an even further rift amongst them. He was booted, and the whole family almost bailed. Linnie backed the Percussion staff because they seemed to get the short end of the deal (Now their side and honesty seems to come in question), amends were made and the inept board decided to fold the corps. The old staff left as they had warned they would not come back if the board folded the corps. I left shortly there after, and at first refused to take the job offered as I didn't want to make it seem as I was jumping ship too. I informed the people I was supposed to (Although the message is lost in cyber space forever floating in a cyber bar) and with Linnie's backing took the job. Long story short, ended up staying at the new job because one of the board members felt like I jumped ship! On the outside I looked in and was hoping for a come back. News sounded good and I knew of strong Tennessee recruiting going on. Evaluation camp came about and went. Bad news. So it seemed folks parted ways. Talking with people though the reason things happened the way they did was a little out of whack and some of it bad luck. Kids from TN were coming up with a brass instructor and they ran into a problem with the driver having medical problems. Well some kids in TN wouldn't cause that much of a problem in attendance. Normally no, and they could say, "Here DCI, here's the proof they were stranded and were coming." Now they were asked what about the others. Good question, they were in the bread basket of their percussion kids so they should be there. From what a member (A trustworthy source) said they were emailed, and low and behold they weren't coming. So this made Linnie saying "they are coming" and them saying "they weren't" look like he was trying to deceive DCI to DCI he was lying and didn't have the kids. He could have easily grabbed some age outs, staff, actors, and faked it but did the honest thing and trusted his percussion staff, regretfully. As it turned out from the member I know, the percussion staff had informed the kids that they wouldn't be fielding a corps, so just join another corps like Pioneer. Kids probably figured it wasn't going to happen since that would be one of the two outcomes and didn't show up. Convenient that the same corps that was suggested was the same corps they worked for. Now what pisses me off is that they deceived so many people and made one person out to be the patsy in the eyes of DCI and the Canos BOD (and probably tarnished the reputation of a man who they could never amount to.) No numbers equals no corps. The rest is history. They still have a job and have recruited a group of kids while the Americanos footed the bill for everything. The sad thing is a group of people who made the decisions deciding not to let the Canos proceed had the wool pulled over their eyes. They made their decision based on the facts manipulated by a group of percussion "instructors" and I use that term lightly, and ultimately the kids being taught the wrong lesson in life and the complete opposite of what drum corps is about. All I can say is Linnie, if you ever need a place to stay or anything else in the future don't hesitate to come by. I will stand by the people who do the right thing even if there might be consequences. Topic 3 - Who What and Where? :sshh: I went to pick up a member and some Long Rangers at the beginning of the summer at Canos Bingo. Still have Bingo. Place was apparently busy with new games having just started. So that's what I know. Tom has hit the nail on the head in most of his postings with his observations and insight. Except the Bingo one, c'mon!! Take care all and have a great week. :mmm:
  5. You got a volunteer here! With 3 other corps in the area there should be plenty of help! (One should hope)
  6. As a marching member we used to say the Our Father if I remember correctly before a performance. We even had to escort the female members of the corps while we were in uniform. Have to love the south! In 2001 I remeber seeing some Phantom kids take part in a bible study. Didn't see much @ the Glassmen but I was only a volunteer for a week or so. I definitely remember the Crossmen kids having a bible study group and one of the bus drivers taking part. In 2005 I took the kids once to a Catholic Church in Naperville. One van, 10 kids at 7 A.M. or so. Just be sure to plan things in advance (Volunteer driving, practice schedule, etc..). I am Catholic but that is not why I decided to offer the kids that particular church. I knew that Catholic mass is only an hour and if need be 45 minutes, so it fit our schedule. Just remember that it doesn't matter where you go, just go! Some kids decided not to go when they found out what type of church we were going to attend.
  7. 1993 Blue Devils Although that may be because that was the first show I ever saw, so it probably holds a special place in my heart!
