Biology professor here - parasites are important ecologically; don't besmirch them by lumping them in with those who personally profit off the labors of the youth in the activity.
Parasites are cool (& off-topic - the people who wrote the movie Alien understood parasitology & really got it right. I show clips to some of my classes.)
Hookworms are fascinating. The way they end up in the intestines is ingenious. They enter between the toes, work their way into your bloodstream and eventually the lungs. Wait, they’re not done yet! Once in the lungs they cause the host to cough, bringing them up, at which point the host swallows them and they then end up in the intestines. They know enough to keep their numbers at a level that keeps their host (barely) alive. Hookworm infections have all but disappeared in the American South since the advent of indoor plumbing but the after effects lived on for years through an unjust stereotype.

I’m not sure. I think we need a lower term. How about pageantry scum?
Pageantry Parasite? (Even though a leach is a parasite I like the alliterative quality)

No - this is the funniest post. The brother thinks his sister is going to split the 87k with him since he was joined in the lawsuit - wait until she cuts him out of the pay day.
You really think that’s the way things work when there’s two plaintiffs in a lawsuit? One of them gets a check and is entrusted to split the money?

I find statements like this so reckless considering there’s zero indication on their website Pioneer has the infrastructure in place to make this happen:
“This homecoming will be a time to meet old friends and to hear about Pioneer’s new venture into the world of WGI WINDS, DRUM LINES, and possibly COLOR GUARD.”
Questions I would want answered on their website would include:
Who is the executive director?
Why is there no board of directors listed?
What kind of educational programming is Pioneer providing in the interim?
Do they have an educational staff in place?
Until answers to these basic questions are provided to the public via their website it’s nothing more than idle chatter. That kind of “Hey kids, let’s put on a show” mindset might have worked when you were working out of a church basement but in the present day it’s just sad.

I’d be interested in knowing what policies and procedures Pioneer would have to implement to be allowed to join any of these groups.
Highly doubt if ye olde “what goes on in the corps, stays in the corps” would be allowed.Probably the same ones DCI required. If I’m not mistaken, Pio could have eventually rejoined the ranks of DCI if those policies/procedures were met. They chose to close up shop rather than comply. Curiously, it looks like their bingo operation is still active. Gotta keep the grift going.,

When did RAMD take over here?
When it came to light how badly the adults in charge were failing the kids in their care?

So these people are still involved?
"Roman & Sue will have a display of artifacts from the various seasons that will include pictures, uniforms, and memorabilia items of your years. RB will wear his traditional Irish Kilt and have his collection of bugles from the beginning of drum corps in the 1920’s through the present."
Doesn't cabbage give you a 'copious' amount gas?
"Naturally, an Irish feast of corned beef & cabbage, as well as other choices, will be served by Irene’s Catering."
As long as RB is still wandering around Pioneerland like Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, nothing is going to change.

Peep this line from the article: This homecoming will be a time to meet old friends and to hear about Pioneer’s new venture into the world of WGI WINDS, DRUM LINES, and possibly COLOR GUARD.
Pio is attempting to create a Winds group, indoor drumline, and maybe a winterguard. It will be interesting to see how WGI handles a group that DCI sanctioned.
Highly doubtful. They don’t even have a BoD. -

Weren’t there food problems along with everything else those last years? Supreme irony if the reunion has a really good buffet set.
Looks like it’s being catered.

Could be the first good meal these kids have had in decades.
Free untreated staph infection as a bonus.
Also, maybe there needs to be a separate discussion forum titled ‘News from Failed Drum Corps’ instead of sullying the World Class thread.- 1

And the International Olympic Committee. I don't think the "Russian Committee" should be there nor should China have been allowed to host the event.
Not a peep from the IOC et al after tennis player Seng Shuai’s obviously coerced hostage interview. You would have to have your head in the sand not to think a pervy party official didn’t think he was entitled to violate her person.

As a side note: Scandinavian countries have higher rates of (reported) domestic abuse than other developed nations. It’s not because they are more violent it’s because reporters trust the system and are more willing to report abuse because they feel they are being heard and believed by the police and judicial system.

So, there have just been some allegations of sexual abuse/harassment by one of the US Olympic team coaches. That's it! I am done. Time to burn it down. I will never watch the Olympics again. They have not learned anything. Time to ban all Olympics. Actually, we should ban all sports. Come to think of it, we should just ban all college kids. That would solve it....when will DCI... I mean USOC...take action???!!!!!!
Why so emotional? There’s always going by to be a few people who take things to the “burn it all down” extremes when it comes to any issue. Your attempt at sarcasm with your outburst negates any legitimate conversation around a serious issue.

Went there in 2019 and it was a nice time. Went on a hike in the Kettle Moraine State Forest nearby and then got a nice dinner in “downtown” Whitewater before the show (sat next to the judges, lol). Recommended
The La Grange General Store is a fun option for a beer and a nosh after a hike. They make great sandwiches and bakery.

Sadly SCV, a few years back, had a previous Director that had to be pulled of the road during tour and "resigned" after the season ended.
That’s a new twist I didn’t know about. If I recall correctly it was phrased as one of those “wants to spend more time with family” resignations.

That isn’t the page. It’s the public page.
Right, I was looking to see if there was trash talk happening on an unofficial Facebook group as well. Looks like the last post on that unofficial page was in December.

Right, I was just wondering what kind of talk might be going on on an unofficial page. Zero chatter as it turns out.

I saw there’s also a private Facebook group.

Am I? To clarify…I was referring to the posters here who are calling for the demise of DCI. As for marching members, these are young college age men and women. They are old enough to know and walk away from inappropriate/ inexcusable behavior from staff (stranger danger). If they feel they aren’t being treated properly…leave the situation immediately and seek assistance, legal, if need warrants. But to ride out the season and then months afterward go public…..that’s where I question the accuser. To repeat, I don’t condone the alleged behavior but I do question the reaction here without knowing all the facts…from all sides of the story.
To reiterate, the case that came to light involved an out of control rookie talent night that took place on a bus. How does one just “walk away” from a situation like that?

Tone deaf doesn’t even come close to explaining why an adult would rerun an article from 1982 that was pervy even back then in light of things that hit the fan in 2018. There’s nothing like doubling down and shouting to the readers of DCW that you’re a lecherous creep.

I have been following these topics for days now. I don't doubt the accusers' stories and am broken hearted for them. Having said that, YES, lawyers should be involved. And law enforcement. People should be arrested, and charged, and brought to court, and adjudicated and sent to prison if found guilty.
It seems as though there is no shortage right now of righteous indignation on social media, but perhaps instead of suggesting that this corps or that or even all of DCI or all of the Marching activities be "burned down" , maybe we should give support to the accusers and allow the legal system to work. I think the hundreds of staff people who have great integrity and thousands of innocent corps members who work so hard for the experience deserve that.
It can’t SOLELY be the responsibility of the alleged victims. If there are staff members with “great integrity” they need to also step up. There is no way in h*** staff members don’t know that things like rookie talent night are happening. They chose to turn a blind eye.
