  1. listening to some 1982 1984 freelancers. As a member of a top 6 drum and bugle corps in the eighties myself...i have to say that I always admired the freelancers horn line. The sound and sonority is really really great and I was wondering what was there instrumentation? And what kind of bugles that they played on? Their sound is so different from all the other corps except for maybe Blue Devils.
  2. The difference between Cadets, Madison, Pioneer is that the corps primary purpose would be evangelical. Again...this is just theoretical discussion. And yes....it would be selective. I think the funding would be there. A million dollars over the entire Christian faith churches would not be as difficult...or as easy...as one would think. I think this thread reflects how it would be received.
  3. I'm thinking along the lines of a major theatrical production since the shows are so visual. I was wondering if the Christian churches across America would support this ministry if its clear cut purpose was to share the gospel in music. Good name I thought of was Trinity.
  4. To do shows that share the gospel and spiritual matters of life.....forgiveness, loving your brother, etc; Not force feed but just do what they do? I think churches would financially back it and Christian horn players would like to be part of that. What do you think?
  5. See....I'd rather accept minor intonation issues than the identifying sound. Do you want to plastic surgery your wife or kids so they are more perfect looking? Of course not because its their identity. That's what im saying. I'm so sick if concert pitch 24/7/365 that the change if key is welcome just for that reason alone. I don't listen to easy listening....but yeah....its in tune. Intonation at the expense of identity, power, and more is not a big enough reason. Once your identity is gone....what do you have? BOA and wgi minus wwodwinds.....for.now.
  6. I never understood the argument of economics or worse because the kids play Bb. These talented kids have any issue with playing the horn a minor 3rd lower? Why do you need new horns every year. Buy them, take care.of them, The signature sound is lost. Its completely different and yeah its in tune but so is an accordion and I can take that for so long.. The audio identity is gone. DCI sounds like marching band.
  7. Suncoast 1983 opener. Kicking ### and asking questions later. Soloists were total bad ###. YouTube it.
  8. You would have to have been there to understand. Imagine the current horn line doubled. But that's just volume. The signature sound is the beauty. Get some Sony MDR7506 and listen to...Blue Devik 82, 1984 Vanguard, 85 Madison....and so much more.
  9. I think there is too much emphasis placed on kids. It always sounds good... but its a given and I only half of the equation. I marched and worked hard. Not a big deal and every time I heard someone say how I hard u worked it did not make me feel special because I took in perspective that the source was usually some old or obese person. U was up for the challenge and so no biggie. I think the kids want their product to be liked. Unfortunately they have little control over what they are playing and marching. So the issue is with the design and judges. The audience I spoke to in Allentown and the courtesy standing ovations were obvious. It was a boring show except for scv and crown. I watch people. My bitter pill is kicking in.. u take another in 4 hours.
  10. I do music recording for a living .... classical music....and I can hear grass grow. Not that grass. My guest at Allentown and the people around me said the same thing....and I come from the bugle era. You?
  11. I can't hear the horn line....it doesn't penetrate or excite the audience. Have you ever heard G?
  12. Geez...my android sucks. Sorry for all the typos.
  13. What would happen if any of the top 12 corps came out on G bugles.....everything being the same....talent, performance, show concept and performance....what happens to that score? Do you gain in GE what you lose inusic for intonation? Is that all they could go after and us there some leway for the intonation being inherent in the horn? I'm thinking you can only penalize a group so much for intonation that would it ultimately not be that big if a deal if everything else stayed the same. Second u read a long time ago somewhere about something with Downey working with King to....forgive me because its bbeen awhile since I read it....redo the GS into better intonation ad to return to them or maybe it was turning the Bob to a bugle.....something like that. Does that ring any kind of a bell?
  14. Back to the drawing board boys. Thank you DCI for not rewarding that. I was getting nightmares of the next 20 years every corps rewriting something. And by the way, squatting and leaning - 1993 Star of Indiana who originated is sick of seeing it 20 years later. Rewrite that.
  15. Now we know who needs to keep their day jobs!
  16. Prediction: DCI scours Drum Corps Planet, calls emergency meeting, all corps must march G bugles and anyone squatting or using electronics will be disqualified. Back to my drink.
  17. I want some Moorside March, Elks Parade, in the Stone and any ballad for a closer. In G please. Thank you.
