Great show Shadow! Seems a bit short, but a very complete design.
[now for a mad dash for some food to have on hand for the night...] -
This is a pretty complete show visually too. They're doing a lot more. If this is the cutline for finals, then yeah, it may be more clear than the 'recent scores' line indicates.
Open tends to move a lot when they all finally meet up.
Crazy to think that if BDB and SCVC were here, this might not make Open finals?- 1

From what I can tell score wise, Heat Wave/Shadow is the battle for OC finals? Then the groups after the break are the big cluster that could see some major ordinals shuffling.
-
Very nice work on the ballad, Heat Wave!

Maybe it's because I grew up in an area with little to no influence from DCI/WGI in terms of percussion instruction, but I'm blown away at how many solid drummers there are across the board down to the lower classes in both activities. Not to mention the insanity that is California HS drumlines.
Looking at their staff page real quick, they've got a lot of successful small indoor and HS experience teaching these kids.
This show works so well. It's a smart decision to go for a 'story show' for a small corps I think, it gets a lot of impact and ties the cohesiveness together. -
Effective opening with Nature Boy. Didn't expect to ever say that...heh.

I never understand people who negate Open Class. I mean, I’m obviously biased, but that aside, some of my favorite program designs every single year come from this tier.
As DrumManTx mentioned, the smaller size forces more creativity for the smaller groups. For the larger groups, there's more freedom to innovate it seems as the 'risk' isn't there of a show that bombs and sets back the corps unduly. I can't imagine a big time WC corps taking a risk like Guardians did with their Kayne West show awhile back. But we see some of the things that OC corps innovate adopted in to WC after they've been proven to be something the judges won't reject out of hand.

It never shows up right when I do the quote, I was saying any photos are appreciated as I have 3 kiddos marching and I’m jealous I’m not there😀

Pro tip; The app has a bug. If you're quoting a post that has a quote in it already, it'll clip what you add. I'm not there in person but ready for them on Flo!

Next on...Heat Wave. But not before some commercials from Flo.

Right? “We’ve got these gorgeous backdrops that’ll hide... oh. OK.”
To be fair, those plumes are sort of hard to hide behind those props....

Need those tall points when you're smol.
I see they keep them even after removing the jackets for the more 'modern look'
Also...this closer is cookin! Go Colt Cadets! -
Flo... don't close up on the 'back stage' as they do the uniform change...it ruins the magic.

Alright. SOMEONE did their homework for what the new venue would look like when making those props. The close up made the trees on the prop paintings look like they fit with that tree in the background perfectly.

On Eagles Wings works so well.

Colt Cadets have a good ratio of chaperones to marching members because there are a good number of marching members who are young, as young as 14. So a mom in the audience yelling something that will turn a kid’s face beet red is no surprise, and quite frankly endearing.
Right. The youth of this group is one of the things that's fun to watch. it's the "smol" thing DrumManTx coined for them. And there's NOTHING like a "band bus mom" to go over the top in support.

I love the way those uniforms look.
Its the plumes. They make these kids look super tall.
Go battery! They're doing well out there. -

This is going to be an underrated year for open class! So many good corps!
If I was a betting man I'd place a bet on Guardians to upset some people this week. Since San Antonio they've improved 13 points and are now in the hunt for the 25th Semi Finalist spot. They have momentum while a lot of corps in their pack have stagnated.
It's going to be down to the wire!
Haven't seen them this year but they've always been entertaining and tended to make big moves. The scores in Open have been a jumble this year it seems with fewer head to head shows with corps and a tight bundle of corps. Should make for some good excitement today tomorrow and Quarters in Indy.

Somewhere. Someone, perhaps several. Are thinking "mom, did you have to yell that?"

Colt Cadets match the field nicely.
"Team Red" will get that with this logo.

Colt Cadets taking the field now. I'm ready for the smol!

Looked up their reps and discovered this is an all original music show. I could hear the Key Poulan in it though!

Shadow felt a bit short. I wonder if that's what's impacting their scores? Or just a lack of head to head. If that show is this far down the ranks, we've got some great entertainment on hand tonight.
