I thought Goddess was fine. I think the MMs might have surprised the staff by performing the daylights out of it earlier than anticipated. So the staff was working to layer a bit more into it without overdoing the original concept.
If the design and instruction staff are consistent from last year, then they've likely learnt that and have planned accordingly. -
I wouldn't have laughed in your face as I'd been watching the Mandarins rise. But I would have told you you're overselling the improvement.
They took their chances and well... they took it!- 2

I used to chide my colleagues when they proposed what I considered preposterous and overblown titles for their shows. I felt they often were promising "The History of the Universe in all its Complexity"
Someone's doing a Mel Brooks show?

Anybody else familiar with this piece???? Would love for Regiment to pull this off! You have to commit to watch the entire opera then draw your conclusion. Here’s a teaser
I've been putting Dr. Atomic out there for awhile. Yeah there's lots of good parts.

Bloopit stands out strong for me in this one.

Front ensemble isn't in this one but that "J*esus Christ" at the end says it all.

Alright the Cavies thread has me going down the rabbit hole on these because there's something wonderfully exposed about the percussion books with everything else stripped away that just makes the lines sparkle and gets you noticing other things.
The one that started this for me:

The tenors doing those delicate spill sounds under the voice overs for Somewhere....You'll Find me. It's just a wonderfully nuanced and controlled dynamic and tempo changes movement.
The front ensemble writing really stands out in this video too.- 1

I was worried a few times reading the lede, this was going to be about the heart, the heart, the heart, the heart....
I'm not clickinging through two or three times just in case.- 1

I was listening again and focusing on the percussion and that meets every criteria of a Sanford winning line.
1. Stupidly hard writing
2. Performed stupidly clean
3. With stupidly good musicality
4. Stupdily consisistent through the season.
I was stupified.
Anyone know if there's a 'just the percussion' recording like Phantom did in 2010?- 1

Starting this because heck why not!
Also, in my occasional scry of corps merch stores to add to my pin collection, I found Pacific Crest had one. I got unwarranted giddiness when seeing a shipping notice from Oceanside today.
The upward trajectory for this corps has been super fun to watch.
I’d like to think that’s translating to more auditions and talent looking ti be a part of this upswing. Will they push into the top 12 at last?
If they wanted to be memeable, they could go with a show title if “Pacific Specifics” with facts about the Pacific Ocean featured.
And the preshow with a recording of stadium announcers mangling “Presenting their 2024 show, Pacific Specifics, DCI is proud to present, Pacific Crest!”

Not quite as good as the Borkcoats Tilt. But good.

If they do manage to somehow come back, maybe they should rebrand as the Ensigns. 90 years IS an awfully long time to go without a promotion, after all. 😁

I thought it was kind of interesting. In 2022 at DCI I won a tour of the tornado center in Norman OK. The director of the center is a DCI fan and is the official DCI meteorologist. I wasn't able to do it last year but theis year I plan on taking a break from the tour in OK and seeing how they track tornadoes and such
That seems an odd prize to be pitching at a DCI show. But I’d be in. I grew up in North Indiana and for a hot minute thought about storm chasing/meteorology as a career.

I like how we all immediately went to Bloo with this.

The very first DCA Championship contest was held in 1965 in Milford, CT. "Full Retreats" were a given then at almost every show, featuring the appropriate bugle call at the beginning, played by one of the soprano players from a competing corps, all color guards, drum majors and their entire corps.
Normally, the host corps would play all the others on, each unit marching through the gate, across the field, ending downstage arranged left to right near the front sideline.
Caption and placement awards would be announced and each unit would parade across the front playing their signature song as all others came to attention and their respective guards dipped silks in salute. Sometimes this was more entertaining than some of the performances.
The DCA officials wished to up the ante for Finals and hatched a plan for all corps to set up at the back sideline, moving forward together playing the last 16 bars of "Stars and Stripes".
Reading, Hurcs, Skyliners, Yankee Rebels, Interstatesmen and Pittsburgh Rockets were an impressive mass of color. There was a roll-off. They all stepped off. We in the audience held our collective breath...
The first few notes were massive and (mostly) together. What followed can only be described as a bad LSD trip. Only the Bucs and Rebels seemed to have a nodding acquaintance with the actual arrangement. Everyone else appeared to be searching for things like tempo and key.
As the monster lurched closer, even the participants came to realize what an abomination was being created. Some, like the Skyliners, doubled down, adding random bugle calls, screams and rim shots...then, mercifully it ended, not exactly in unison.
We were stunned. The guy next to me, looking off into space, said, "Man. That s#*t was psychedelic!" ...It was a monumental understatement.

Maybe I can expand this into "Fear and Loathing in Drum Corps".
Can’t wait to see Bloo’s uniforms and music selections for this show

Classic case of it. But you peak with what you're given. It'll get ironed out with consistency in the org and they'll get on track.
