Any guesses on the venue for Drums Along the Rockies on July 16? It's listed as TBA in Denver, and the lineup is impressive.

    https://ascendperformingarts.org/events/datr/

Hasn't been announced.  Last year it was held at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood (6th Ave and Kipling), but of course that lineup didn't include BD or SCV.

I don't know the present feasibility/cost of having this show in the Broncos' stadium, where it's historically been held.  It would be disappointing to wind up with another standstill show because of a half inch of rain.

Prop-A-Palooza seems to necessitate an artificial turf field.

Jeffco is artificial turf, while the Broncos' stadium is natural grass, so there may be your answer.

This is the first time that I can remember (and possibly the first time in DCI history) where there are no shows in New York State. Even in the cancelled 2020 tour there were stops in Buffalo and a Syracuse-area show to replace the now-defunct Rome show.

Here's the state distribution of the 20 shows (pre-Indy) for The Cadets.   What do you notice?

    Texas 4
    Georgia 2
    Mississippi 2
    Alabama 1
    North Carolina 1
    South Carolina 1
    Tennessee 1

    Ohio 1

    Massachusetts 2
    Pennsylvania 2
    Delaware 1
    Maryland 1
    Annapolis 1

Just saw BAC’s tour schedule and noticed it has fewer shows than 2019 did.  I’m now wondering if this will be typical of all corps this year to help manage expenses.  A bit later start and this past years success with virtual rehearsals, and a bit shorter ST, may equate to decent cost reduction for overall tour costs, especially where costs for everything has increased significantly.  Even staying flat on expenditures would be a win.

    By my tally:

    Number of 2022 shows (pre-Indy)

    Blue Devils 17
    Bluecoats 19
    Santa Clara Vanguard 19
    Carolina Crown 18
    The Cavaliers 25
    Boston Crusaders 19
    Blue Knights 21
    Blue Stars 23
    The Cadets 20
    Mandarins 23
    Crossmen 20
    Phantom Regiment 22
    Spirit of Atlanta 19
    Pacific Crest 18
    The Academy 23
    Colts 22
    Madison Scouts 20
    Troopers 20
    Genesis 20
    Music City 20

I'd say 20 shows seems to be the average, with Cavaliers being an outlier at 25

RON LAMBERT NAMED DIRECTOR OF THE CADETS
    CORPS NEWS/ NOVEMBER 05, 2021

As the start of the 2022 season approaches, Cadets Arts & Entertainment (CAE) is thrilled to announce the promotion of Ron Lambert to Director of The Cadets.

Ron has a long history of dedication and excellence as a music educator. For 37 years, he has served as a member, instructor, designer, and administrator throughout the drum corps community.

"Ron joined The Cadets family as Assistant Director in the fall of 2019 and has proven to be an exceptional leader and educator," said CEO Denise Bonfiglio. "Ron and I were partners throughout the 2020/2021 season, and we worked together to ensure that The Cadets stayed healthy, supported the dreams and expectations of our 2021 performers, and delivered a program that had deep roots to The Cadets and the drum corps community. I look forward to working together for many years to come," she said.

Denise served as Director of The Cadets from October 2019 to November 2021, and she remains the leader of The Cadets organization. With Ron's promotion, Denise will serve exclusively as the Chief Executive Officer for Cadets Arts & Entertainment, working closely with the Corps Director, Board of Directors, and Administrative Staff to ensure a high quality Cadets program.

"I couldn't be more honored or excited," Lambert said. "The Cadets has an 87-year legacy of excellence in music education and pageantry performance, and I fully intend to continue that legacy. We are a small but mighty team, and this corps has a bright future ahead."

Ron is an alumnus of the Illiana Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps (1984-5) and The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps Snare Line (1986-9), as well as the University of Illinois Marching Illini.

Before coming onboard with The Cadets, he was the Assistant Director of the Boston Crusaders from 2017 to 2019. He recently retired as the Director of Bands at Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, Fla., where he taught from 2004 to 2021. He also previously served as the Director of Athletic Bands Percussion at the University of South Florida from 2000 to 2005.

From 2008 to 2012, Ron served as a Director’s Track facilitator at the Music For All/Bands of America Summer Symposium Leadership Camp. He has arranged for marching band programs and drum corps around the country. He is a professional drummer with many recording and touring credits as well as over 25 years of private and curricular education experience. In 2007, Ron co-produced and arranged for the critically acclaimed touring and off-Broadway musical,  BattleDrum . He has been named Lakewood Ranch Teacher of the Year and Fine Arts Teacher of the Year, a Florida Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Award recipient (2016 to 2019), and is a GRAMMY nominee, finishing as a Quarterfinalist for the 2017 GRAMMY Educators Award.

Ron resides in Apollo Beach, Fla. with his wife, Karyn. He has two children; Jessykka and Brandon; a granddaughter, Zoë; and two cats; Logan and Chadwick.

Without Judge feedback, scores, placements, competition, the product itself in time  would become  stale and stuck in a rut of little to no improvements , in my opinion . Pretty sure also , I would not have payed money to have marched Drum Corps in my youth if all my hard practices , sleeping on gym floors  , and long bus rides, etc  were to then do just parades and 20-25 or so exhibitions on another town’s football fields all summer .

I don't where Drum Corps would be today without the widespread adaptation of an innovation that I so lovingly refer to as "PARK-N-BLOW SQUAT POSING" (PNBSP) -- gotta be sure to check that box (body movement) for the judges!!

Most corps drill it into you how far away the pro hashes are from college/high school. Also it looks like they had both marked anyways (along with the midpoints from the front sidelines

Yes I noticed that both were marked.  In prior seasons the corps’ would have performed at other venues (Atlanta, Buffalo) with both sets of hashes before Indy.

Yeah, I saw that. When they close the chest, almost as if to say "we have reflected on the past, but now we must move on" and then put on their Garfield jackets and walk to the door to stare into the future, you get the sense that the corps will be looking for the next thing. Whatever that it. It may mean moving away from the uniform. I would be fine with costumes every other year, or 2 out of 3 years, but I am hoping that at least once every 2 or 3 years we get the Cadets uniform.

I've felt this season's "ShallAlwaysBe" show theme is another take on "The Unity Project" given the design freedom (i.e., no judging) allowed this year.   I think it was important for the current members to have an opportunity to "feel the love"  from so many alumni and fans.

Agreed. I feel that Cadets and Phantom have the most nostalgic and enjoyable shows, but I do not think this is the direction for 2022. Personally, I want Cadets more aggressive with NO nostalgia next year.

I agree.  I believe the show design (especially the return of the traditional uniform) likely helped retain some members who otherwise may have chosen to join one of the "cool corps"

It's about creating unity of purpose for the future.  This season presented The Cadets with the unique opportunity to craft a show for the alumni and fans that acknowledges past achievements and sets a course of excellence for the future.   Denise explicitly states this in the narration at the start of Far and Away.

After the 2019 season, I seem to remember a fair number of folks who wondered if The Cadets had the means to field another corps.

For any Indiana residents wondering, the latest word from DCI to our band parents group is that there will be an Indiana resident discount ticket. More info coming next Monday.....

I believe this is typical of DCI's intent to fill the stands on Saturday night

FWIW, this was the 2019 Hoosier discount.  I felt it provided a good deal for walk-up high school groups who want to attend en masse.

    https://www.dci.org/static/2019-dci-world-championship-finals-ticket-offer-for-indiana-residents

    I'm guessing they'll discount the $49/$79 seats.

I can't believe someone hasn't started this topic.

I keep get emails from Flo (No I wasn't a fan) advertising their new version of Drum Corps Radio as part of their Pro Package.  Has anyone checked it out yet and what is your impression/feedback?

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW

I started a thread last week, when I discovered this feature when I logged into Flomarching (to cancel my annual subscription renewal on June 1).  My point in sharing was for those who might want to get some enjoyment during the remaining days of their annual subscription.

Then I saw my thread was taken down with no explanation.

I particularly enjoyed the 42 Cadets shows (1975, 1977, 1980-2019) they featured on Sunday 5/24.

But whatever, I guess my original post was deemed more inappropriate than the usual spreading of wild ### rumors about the Cadets or other nonsense 🙂

The Cadets have let the opportunity to get ahead of the curve and use it to their advantage pass them by. I look at the other top 12 corps and see everyone else already putting out 2021 plans, being honest about difficulties that lay ahead, and what to expect going forward. This has been a problem of the Cadets for an extended period of time.

Answers to the simple questions like have the Cadets guaranteed 2020 members a position with them for 2021 as other corps have? should have already been answered. I personally know two members families that are saying their marching members will not go back them in 2021 because of the continued lack of information provided by the Cadets this winter.

The DCI statement specifically states to watch for announcements from and to contact your corps for membership and other related questions.  Being able to address problems as they arise is a sign of a well organized operation. DCI led the way and the corps needed to be prepared to follow, Something that the Cadets appeared NOT ready to do!!!

I know of one member's family who couldn't be more appreciative of the impressive leadership Denise and her team have shown this season and especially throughout this unprecedented time.

This member's family has yet to experience the "lack of information" that you have alleged.  But feel free to keep stirring the pot, if it makes you feel better.

Remind me not to ask you for stock tips.

Yes, what was this supposed email of which RContra posted late Thursday, then later edited his/her post?

Mind you, I remain skeptical of the feasibility of a 2020 season, but it'll be cancelled for the Cadets at the same time as the rest of the DCI world and open class corps.

A reduced number of performances of watered-down shows with extremely reduced rehearsal time is worse than no season at all. If there can't be a full, normal tour this year, then cancel the season and let the ageouts come back next year. Don't insult them by forcing this sort of substandard production to be all they get.

    Completely agree.

"With the hope for a safe and vastly improved environment in the coming weeks..." -- that just ain't gonna happen folks.   This pandemic is just getting started.

This seems more about softening the blow when they have to REALLY pull the plug.

The plug was pulled? Cadets aren't competing this summer?

I call ########.  For example, Cadets had a virtual brass camp this weekend.   It's deplorable for anyone to use this public health emergency to spread misinformation and innuendo about the current Cadets leadership.  The only ones who would be privy to this kind of information would be Denise and members of the new board.
