without having access to the most recent 990's, I have no idea what the math is except for the $800k or so mentioned last fall when C2 was cut. I have heard they found ways to get some income or donations they weren't getting before which most likely helped. I know they were able to consign a bunch of past guard uniforms and flags and sell a bunch of it which helped some. for USBands, the sliding membership fees scale is important, because the more shows a school does, the more they have to pay, so if schools are doing fewer shows, that may cut into revenue. Easiest way to know is to look at where each band is going, and then use tool to see what their membership fees are:

I took a look at October 5th as an example.  USBands is hosting Yamaha Cup at MetLife, while BOA has a show at the University of Maryland.  I count nine NJ Open class bands choosing the BOA show instead of the Yamaha Cup.   Some NJ Open Class bands also seem to be forgoing USBands Nationals in November.

Why am I getting the impression that  this organization is more disorganized than I thought? Did anyone stop to think about the announcement that was made months ago??

What's next? Oops we forgot to tell everyone that back flipping Jesus is making an appearance at finals along with Little Jeffery ???lmao.

You're just now realizing the disorganization extends beyond GH?  :P

I'm sure the Alumni Corps was well intentioned, but as Terri mentioned, it requires significant effort to coordinate.

I wonder what the issue was then?  It’s all very strange.

Cavaliers props messed up the field. That's all there is to it

Yep.  I wouldn't say "messed up".  You could see flattened grass left from moving the Cavaliers' tower on/off the field, which probably disappear in a day or two.

But it was only going to get worse with the amount of props in the final 3 shows  (especially with all the movement of the Cadets stairs!).

I think the stadium staff forces a standstill EVEN on a completely dry night; they must be adamant of maintaining putting green like pitch conditions for soccer.

The weather (brief light shower earlier in the day) allowed DCI and YEA a cop out; as other have mentioned, outside the stadium the parking lots and fields were completely dry.

Last year's show, on a hot dry night, Talen didn't allow tarps and supposedly they were unhappy with marks left by Boston's props.

It's time to find a new venue because I don't see corps getting rid of the props and tarps.

Do you not remember the parking/traffic fiasco the one time the Cadets did host a show there? The university continued to schedule other activities on the practice/soccer fields around the stadium making it most difficult for corps to warm-up. Also there's that tremendous hill which front ensembles (and now propsters) must negotiate in and out of the actual performance field. It delayed the show between corps.  Both reasons why YEA did not return there.

Yes.  I've been a parent-volunteer for my kids HS band who've performed at USBands NJ Open Class Championships.  I have moved battery (marimbas, gongs and the like) as well as and props in and out of the stadium.   They'd have to close River Road to accommodate the trucks.   There is ample parking north of the stadium if no other events are occurring; these are all issues that could be mitigated or managed in advance with foresight.   I'd like to think the new YEA folks would be up to the task.

At least having this at Rutgers the audience would assured that they'd get to see the #### show.

I am simply saying that each corps knows what it can do.  And just because one says it is a no, should not mean that everyone after should abide by the same decision.  That is why I think it was a decision by the venue.  That is all.  I could be wrong.  Would not be the first time!

I'm thinking back to last season when BAC had the compass prop that they spun.  I spoke with someone after the show who speculated that perhaps Talen charged BAC with damages last year?

This statement makes no sense.  I was at the show. No clue what weather they were talking about. I’m assuming the turf may have taken on some rain earlier in the day, but there was no change in the weather from when Cavies ended and Boston was supposed to start.  Crossmen and Cavies both had props on the field and moved....

The stadium is awesome but it appears as though the grass turf kept within its walls is made of rare, delicate, expensive blades found only in the purest windswept prairies of the world and is not to by touched by mere mortals. If DCI is going to continue its relationship with Talen, it would be nice to know exactly what their field stipulations and rules are so the fans forking over hundreds of dollars can better determine if they want to risk the chance of coming to see a standstill on a dry, mild, breezy evening again.

Or they can simply change their refund policy.

Agree.   The weather is a cop out.   It rained earlier in the day for maybe 15 minutes?    The grounds crew was fussy last year too -- I remember PR and BAC performed their shows without the tarps.  Next year this show needs to be moved to UDel or Rutgers.

I would consider such an announcement as a major plus.  It should be obvious that Cadets have done the financial analysis and think they can accomplish the season without the income from camp fees.

Again, what's bad about cutting fees for members?

I don't think it's a bad thing either.   I simply found the timing interesting; I'm confident this decision was made weeks ago.  I don't know what was the size of turnout for the "Music Is Cool" clinic held a few weeks ago before the MetLife show.

Hope you sent your RSVP in.  Qualified or not.  They invited you to join after all.  It is only polite.

I aged out 30+ years ago.  I'm assuming I got the email because I paid $150 for my child to attend to the November 2018 camp to audition for Cadets2.  The corps was disbanded three days later.   Another example of poor timing?

A third of the world class corps are impacted by this rainout.  The Crossmen would one be beehind Phantom and Mandarins if you use their last score, the Cadets behind Blue Stars kind of a penalty for doing a small show in Casper compounded by a small judging panel.

Having now seen Cadets multiple times and Blue Knights for the first time tonight, I think the Blue Knights show is better both in design and performance.

I saw a post online this past weekend, that as of 3/24, they had played a full music run through of the full show, and were out starting drill. In March. I see nothing from them looking to fill holes. So that means the design team does their homework very early, they recruit like madmen, and the winter camps are extremely productive.

Which is why they come out in June ready to start deep cleaning in addition to any additions/changes or tweaks they see that need to be made, when others are still filling in holes, finishing the drill....and then sometime in late July digging in for deep cleaning/tweaks/changes.

    It's not rocket science.

Yep.  i understand there are more than a few former C2 members who wanted to remain in DCA and have found a new home with the Bucs.
