Can we just have a rule that for next year there are no show themes about breaking free from the pack?

Never ever say that again 🙂
That made last year’s Crown seem…cool…

I want to break free of this narration.
See that’s what I get for opening my big mouth…

Props pet peeve: when it’s very obvious when props are being moved around.
You’ve gotta stage those movements so that the audience’s eyes are averted on something else while it’s happening.
Props have been by far the weakest part of BK for years.

A more mature sound from Crossmen, but I like Spirit’s show better. Means very little, but I’m still rooting for Spirit to pull the upset
Some obvious intonation issues with Crossmen, but they can march.

Never said this before, but Crossmen’s show could use a little more narration. Not sure I understand what the show is about…

I know. I’m sorry I was a bit harsh and defensive. I appreciate your support of the corps. Are you in Indy ?
I wish…

The “other road”? How many years had Boston been on that road? A LOT longer than you apparently. I hope you don’t think Boston’s history is an easy one. Boston was able to find a team that was maybe tired of where they were, and what they weren’t able to do, and have found a home where they are appreciated tremendously and get to create to their hearts content.
Dude I’m not dissing Boston. I am well aware of the journey they have been on, believe me. I was one of the most outraged dci fans on dcp when the G7 happened. It was appalling. I’m a BAC fan.

More and more every year. But they still have a lot of members from out of state. I think they have 32 different states represented this year.
Lots of Overton kids I assume?

Music City's show is so beautiful!
They are making big strides every year. How many of their kids are from area schools?

Just in terms of historical accuracy, while a group of Crown guard members did follow Michael and Heather over to BAC, that was not the case with brass players and drummers coming over from Cadets...it may have been a handful, but I was around alot in 2017 and do not remember any kind of a large influx.
Lest we forget, as of the audition season in December 2016, BAC was still a 12th place corps.
AND, NONE of those 2017 members would have been still of marching age in 2022 when Boston tied for second.
Ultimately, the reason for their success has been extremely high level of teaching, agile, intelligent corps management, and a BOD and alumni base committed to doing whatever it takes to support the members.
None of this happens without the support of the alums and BOD, who funded the change and provided a space where Boston could create their own new brand and traditions.

Are the top corps getting better, or the 7-12 corps losing steam?
Top four are getting better, imo.
7-12 seem to be staying at the same level.

Dude their show may have the listening responsibilities demand, but certainly not the sheer content demand that other horn lines have. And honestly the trombone thing after the ballad sounds bad - not using good tone or air. Crown BD and Boston all have more demand
I still think Bump goes on too long, it’s a bit of a one trick pony imo. They have worked really hard to expand the concept but it still seems a bit of a gimmick. And I am as big a Bloo fan on the planet.

Yes, I did too. Especially for BK after 2015 and Blue Stars after last year. It's just really really really (add in 500 more reallys here) hard to move from 6-8 to top 5 then top 3. The top 4 corps this year are all so amazingly good. It just takes a herculan effort, and YEARS, to reach this level. Boston is really an annomoly. Since 2016 they had a pretty rapid rise, but that is very rare, and many many pieces fell into place to make that happen.
Boston did it by hiring away known teaching brand names, which made it possible to them to immediately pull in their best MMS from their previous corps. The other road is a lot harder, takes a lot longer. Bluecoats seem to have done it the old fashioned way. Blue Stars and Knights don’t seem to have found the right equation yet.

I saw the movie Oppenheimer this past weekend…there are some sweet mellow lines in that score that would make for a great DCI show.

4 years ago, BK and BS were 7th and 8th and 4-5 pts from medaling, so I wouldn't call that contending. But yes, BK has dropped off significantly since then, and BS is having a down year after coming in 7th last year. But other corps like Phantom, Mandarins, Troopers and Colts are all having stronger years, so someone is bound to drop down the rankings.
I just thought both of those corps were ready to go to the next level. The circumstances around both are very different, but also happy for Phantom, Cadets and Mandarins. All three have made significant strides up in that time frame.

Blue Stars, while having a rough season, aren't at risk of not making finals.
They’re a lot closer to 13 than 1 now, and that’s my point.

Yeah, The Blue Stars may be having a rough go of it, this year; but they are still good enough for a finals spot. I don't see them dropping below 11. If they do, the work that needs to be done for 2024 needs to start, pronto.
I find it very surprising that in 2023, a season without SCV, Blue Knights and Blue Stars are fighting to make Finals. Four years ago both were on the verge of becoming contenders for a medal.

I assume the corps that got scored cannot release the scores to goofballs like us…

Sorry if this was noted earlier, but why wasn’t the Innovations in Brass show scored?
-
Gonna come down to hundredths of a point on finals night. Sort of exciting but also sad for the corps that finishes fourth.
