  1. All, I was there tonight and no video does this show justice, as you have to see it and feel it for yourself.  I was told they will learn the remaining closer drill tomorrow & Monday.   The kids already have it on the UDB app and know they have to learn their dots.  There is also more layers of choreography that will be added, but they have to do one thing at a time, as there is so much in it already.  I also spoke with a college band director who has watched drum corps for many years who told me that that drumline is the best in Crown history.  He told me based on what he heard tonight, book is very difficult and will contend for the Sanford.  Seriously, this show is got some serious fire power too it.  I for one loved it and the energy is thru the roof.  Great job on a first show Crown staff and members, as there is tremendous work to be done!👊

Doesn’t diverting your attention to an app distract from watching the show?   I think I’d rather watch what’s going on down on the field than divert my attention to an app.

Not at all.  I understand the skepticism, but  the app design is top notch and it doesn't distract at all, I promise.

So I downloaded the app this morning.  Thought there might be info on housing, etc., but it just sits there.  Does it only work when you're at the venue & they're set up to send info?  I'm old...

Once you open the app during the intro you dont have to do anything else as it listens to what is being played and reacts.  The app is extremely simple to use during a show and honestly you dont focus on it much, as the show itself is freaking amazing without it. You all will love this once you experience it and you can even use it during flomarching views, as they designed it for those watching at home and in the audience.  It's so 😎!

Boston is already very clean despite having a very challenging book. I think this is the year for them to win brass. We’ll see though

I heard Crown tonight live and I predict no one will beat them in brass this year.  I repeat no one will beat them in Brass, as they play more notes in part two than the entire Boston show combined.  Their book is insane and only can be compared to 2012 from a level of difficulty perspective.  Sorry if this is a strong opinion or it hurts feelings.

    -Carry on!

Heading out to see some Bluecoats tonight! Anybody else out there?

We are all so jealous and happy for you at the same time, lol.  Can you please drop your thoughts after rehearsal without revealing anything we are suppose to know?  You know the kind of stuff we all clamor too, like how was the drumline, the brass, guard, pit, general effect, ballad, yada yada....

    Thank You in Advance!

Watch the Concert in the Park on FB Live and wow - that percussion! Hard to get a good read of brass with the phone quality recording - but I enjoyed this preview. Can't wait to see in theaters in a week! Go BAC!

I echo these comments, as the battery seems very talented from my non trained ear.  Brass wise, I didn't get a good read and some of the runs sounded sloppy which might just be the cell phone quality.  Also, the ballad left me feeling kind of empty, but it is very early season and I am sure it will mature.  In my view, all DCI shows previewed in the next 2 weeks will be rough drafts of the final product and no one should over hype finals placements too much, as there is lots of time to layer and clean.  Overall, I think BAC will have a great season and I wish them the best of luck.

This show will light the stadium on fire on finals. For Real. The energy coming off the field right now is INSANE. The show will feel subversive to those who don’t want to buy in but the way this corps performs you won’t be able to help yourself. It’s stupid good. Just you wait…

I could not echo this sentiment enough and I look forward to all of the skepticism to be laid to rest when the corps lights the field on fire this season.  I for one also did not enjoy the 2018 production and only liked half of the 2017 show, but I thought 2019 was a great start to something new for Crown.  All of this is too say I get the pessimism, but the Corps has not even finished ST and I feel like they are on an operating table getting an autopsy performed. I believe Crown is reinventing its identity.  This year's show is bold and fresh and I for one love the courage they are taking in trying something new to break the mold.   It reminds me what Bloo 2016 and SCV 2018 did successfully for their corps and in my opinion Crown will join those ranks this year with "Right here, Right Now".  The energy on the field at this moment is usually not felt until most corps hit Allentown.  All I can say is buckle up and get ready to enjoy the ride!

  8. For all the hand wringing about the design, I would ask you to wait for your conclusion about doom and gloom until after the season starts.  First off from what I have seen the precussion, brass, and guard will all contend to win their captions, not saying they will but the writing and talent will put all of them in the hunt.  Crown has not had that ever, so this group is already ahead of previous Crown groups in the last 10 years.  Also, things Crown struggled with in 2019 have been cured [visually and guard wise].  Visually the drill is fantastic and so is the choreography.  The choreography is very good and modern and should eliminate SCV, Bloo, and Bd advantages.  The guard is looking fantastic and staged 100% better than in 2019, which for sure should add some GE points.  The design team is not telling a story based on a book, love story, or poem but rather a concept no different than downside up.  Also, they have not put the closer on the field yet so the show is only 2/3 on the field.  I will say it loud and clear that I think this show has legs to win gold.  I have also spoken with the a couple staff and they have some more tricks up their sleeve to enhance the show but they have to get it all on the field.  Please be patient and I promise you will not be disappointed.

  9. I personally loved BK 2019 show and would highly recommend that you give it another watch, as its musically one of the best shows of 2019 imo.  So much thickness their sound wise, and I think if they had better visual package they would have been more competitive with BAC. This is not a knock to BAC as their show was great, but rather how strong BK brass book was.  Their version of liquid and hurt was just impeccable.

It’s very different though.  Yes highly aggressive and a technical tour de force.  But I think it’s still not gonna be what you may expect from a Crown show.  The musicians (both brass and percussion) sure can play.

I second this.  I cannot wait to see how it all comes together in a total package.  Honestly this might become my favorite crown show ever and that's tough because it would have to unseat 2012.

  11. Crown brass this year is out of this world good for April as I heard them at camp and the precussion line is fire.  The guard is on a whole new level and will shock some as the season kicks off.  They have no weak links this season, so it will all come down to the design of the show.  I predict they will have a great and memorable season.

To paraphrase Dorothy Parker, “They run the gamut from A to B”.

Diversity is an issue for the entire drum corps community.  If you look around at most drum corps staff's this is a weak point.  With that in mind, I really like the additions to the staff in design, visual, percussion, and color guard, and hope that 2022 is an fantastic year that ends with medaling.

    4. Santa Clara / Boston

    5. Boston /Santa Clara

    6. Cavies

    7. Bluestars

    8. Cadets / Phantom

    9. Phantom /Cadets

    10. Blue Knights

    11. Mandarins

    12. Spirit of Atlanta

    13. Pacific Crest

    14. Crossmen

    15. The Academy
