The shows aren't written for the paying audience, they are written purely for the judges and the sheets.

My wife and I attended DCI Finals for the first time ever last year. We had the time of our lives, and judging by the multiple standing ovations the corps got from the majority of fans in attendance, I would say they would be inclined to agree with me.

Maybe i missed it, but I don't remember seeing or hearing anyone demanding their money back.

In fact from what I saw, most people where doing what I was doing, and that was ordering their 2024 Finals packages from their phones on the spot.

And as bad*** as last year was.......2024 will be even better. Can't wait.

I miss the era where you could jump or fall multiple places based on performance.  Example 1973 BD was 24th, in 74 they were 9th, 3rd in 75 & won in 76.

Idk brother, based off what you described, I think we still see that to a degree.

Crowns rise in the placements from 2006 till they won it all 2013.

Bloo's rise from when they first medaled, in 2010 till their first title in 2016.

Boston's surge over the last 6-7 years.

Mandarins steady climb since 2017, that now has them sitting in the catbird seat of top five going into this season.

Maybe, but I wouldn't be shocked if Chandler (and most of the other top staff at BD) have successors ready to hit the ground running the second they retire.

    Nailed it.

I could be wrong, but I have a hard time believing that BDs current staff doesn't have their respective successors either identified, and/or already attached to the hip, and they are mentoring and grooming these people to eventually take over at some point.

Not saying this will happen, but who here would be shocked if 5-10 years from now, Brandon Olander takes over for ScoJo and leads BDs percussion into the 2030s-2040s.

I appreciate the respect for BD and understand this is not a diss on the Mandarins. I do expect that while BD’s staff depth and stability and reputation led to a very strong recovery post-pandemic, Crown, Bloo, and BAC will continue to close the gap and one of them will capture the Founders’ Trophy soon, with the others not far behind. But BD will get their share. And I am looking forward to Cavies, Mandarins, and PR upping their game as well, as well as hoping for a strong reentry from SCV.

Unfortunately, we live in an era where someone can take a comment, flip it, and conform it to whatever narrative they want to convey and take the original comment completely out of context. But I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't see it as a diss towards Mandarins or any other corps either.

Honestly, it's nothing more than keeping it real whether some like it or want to accept it or not. And the reality is BD will be the favorite to win it all every year until proven otherwise.

Someone might step up and win DCI this year, and it will be exciting, well deserved, and earned. But guess what, BD will still be the favorites for 2025. They earned that over these last 17 years.

I mean to be completely honest, if I'm at BD I'm not even worried about Boston, Bloo or Crown. Yeah, one of them may creep up and beat BD on an "off" year but there's nothing that suggests it will become a trend. We all know the field has no chance the year after BD finishes 2nd.

I can't remember who it was, but the quote was...........

"Every few years it might be someone's SEASON when they win DCI, but make no mistake, it's BDs WORLD we are living in, until someone can prove they can consistently beat them year in, year out."

Can't wait to hear how this weekends camp goes!  Safe travels to all.  Crazy to think move ins are less than a month away.

Hope your son has safe travels this weekend brother. Dre is catching his flight to Sacramento this afternoon. Getting excited! DCI Season is almost upon us!

With all due respect to the Mandarins organization, I highly doubt BD is sweating them at this time. I believe this was most likely a scheduled post that coincidently fell on the same day.

Without a doubt, Mandarins are getting better every year. But as long as BD continues to attract top talent and keeps the nucleus of their staff in place, the Founders Trophy will call Concord home more often than not.

I agree. BD shouldn't even be worried about them at the moment. NOW.......... if/when the Mandarins continue on this upward trajectory, who knows, this could be a conversation in 2026-2027.

But there are levels to this.

Mandarins might take the award for “ballad that makes me cry” this year….

I haven't heard anything so far. My son has been very hush-hush.

All he told me was that Sinnerman is only the beginning.

Mandarins have their first full ensemble this weekend.

Yes i feel the same, once i see that show and it's undeniable, i will definitely cheer for Boston, doesn't i am not cheering for BD because that's untill the day i stop breathing, but i will cheer on BAC real Louder for that season.

I will be right next to you cheering for BAC as well. If another corps is better than BD, I have zero issues showing them love and support.

2018, I cheered SCV all the way across the finish line. Babylon has one of my favorite closers ever.

2016, You best believe I was all aboard the Bloo hype train. And that was a sweet train to be on.

2013, Crown was here in SoCal housing at my kids Alma Mater Vista Murrieta High School. BD was also housing a few miles away from my house as well. Guess what? I went to more Crown rehearsals than BD.

I can support my favorite corps (BD), be a Mandarins Dad and fangirl their historic rise..................but also show love to other corps without tearing them down, spreading lies and false narratives because I don't like some scores and placements.

Lol!  Funny you should ask....for years, I have been comparing F1 racing to DCI'S Top Twelve!  Until recently however, I have referred to Lewis Hamilton (Team Mercedes) as the Blue Devils of that sport.  Incredible organization,  limitless funding,  and unbridled winning.  Max Verstappen is now surging in the sport....hmmm...perhaps the BAC of F1, Chief??  😀

I think I read that since Covid, Max Verstappen has won like 80% of F1 Races?? That is insane! The only time he loses is when his car has issues. No one has straight up out ran him since I believe 2021/2022.

    Blue Devils is Max Verstappen.

    Max Verstappen is Blue Devils.

Depends on which way you look at it lol.

FTR........BACs title is coming sooner than later.

Chief, you know by now, no whining and crying from me! Personally, I think they have a 60% chance of getting a "fourpeat".  But there are several teams who will also bring their A game this summer, so we'll see what happens!

Here is something for you. After watching F1 this weekend, who is more dominant right now, BD or Max Verstappen?

Agree that there is a ton of talent there.  Makes me think that if they recruited hard locally, Crossmen could be a perennial top 6 Corps.  Have to look at why potential members are going to Boston (for example) rather than staying local.

Quite a few Texas kids are making the trip out to California as well. They are well represented here in the Golden State amongst all the corps.

98 they sounded AMAZING playing Tchaikovsky.  Came right after a tremendous jazzy shows in 96/97.

00 they sounded even better (imo) playing a bunch of Herrmann that had more of a romantic than modern feel.  That was after 99.

Both of those were outliers to the jazz stuff they were most identified with.  Neither of those shows won, though....

But I think BD could pull off anything and sound great.

Ahh ok! You just taught me something!

We were just discussing the 98 show I believe yesterday. The music from that year is slamming! BDs most underrated horn line (In my opinion) even though they won the Ott that year.

I think the 98 show gets lost in the sauce since it was sandwiched between BDs gold medal seasons 97 and 99.

2000, one of my favorite BD shows of all time. Plain and simple. If BDs drums weren't a crutch, we could have had a legit three-way battle for gold finals night.

didn't read the thread or see the announcement, but i'm assuming it'll be a show based on romantic era stories or literary conventions of the era. yawn.

as a pipe dream, i'm down for BD playing some romantic era classical.

What would be considered romantic era classical that you think BD could pull off?

I am interested to check it out.

    Thanks in advance brother!
