FYI the Shingrex shots threw me harder than any Covid or Flu vax did with the sore arm thing.

For me.........the series of Anthrax shots I used to get when I was Active Duty. Every time I got that shot, I was on my death bed for the following 48-72 hours.

2005 we was gearing up for a deployment to Iraq, and we got the Smallpox shot. Medical tells you to not touch it and to wash your hands THOROUGHLY if you do. This guy in my unit touched his and then he rubbed his face.............His face ended up looking like the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers. Medical had to isolate and quarantine him. One of the most disgusting things I have ever seen.

I remember hearing that. Also even more impressive since he joined the line after spring training as a replacement for an injury to the original bass 6.

Drove past Vista Murrieta high school yesterday on my way to the crib. Band was on the field rehearsing, he was out there.

The top corps will almost always have more first year age outs than the rest just because they are a top corps and some kids are looking to finish their DCI careers in a top group. It's more rare to see the 3+ year age outs just because there aren't many 18 year olds or younger that can make these top groups. For this year specifically, for percussion anyways, I don't remember seeing a single returning member in the battery this year. I'm pretty sure it was a rookie Crown line but almost everyone (if not everyone) marched DCI before or at the very least a WGI world line. But they had 3 age outs in the battery so all were "rookouts" with Crown. Young line otherwise though so could get a few 3+ year vets on there if they keep coming back (didn't hear anything from any of the guys saying they wouldn't be looking at coming back either).

#6 bass drum for Crown was a high school kid from Vista Murrieta high school. He just started his senior year last week.

I think it speaks to how difficult it is to make a top 4 corps.   There are very few younger members that will make these corps, and even fewer that will march until their ageout.  Most will need to go through the vetting process of marching at lower competitive corps.

Even Brandon Olander had to go through the vetting process. He went to Academy in 2013 before BD took him in 2014.

I just saw an Aged Out Reacts video on YT of the Mandarins battery. TJ Choquette was a guest on this video and he actually consults for the Mandarins percussion. He mentioned they only had ONE returning member from the battery... ONE!! And from what I can tell, it was their center snare. He said they had two guys from Blue Stars and one from Blue Knights, but that was all of the "top 12" experience they had. I can't imagine a top 12 corps practically losing their entire battery like this and coming out even stronger the next year. That is pretty impressive growth and results considering how green that battery was.

I do know two of their 2022 Basses went to Bluecoats, but not sure what happened to the rest.

I'd be curious to see if a lot of these guys will come back in 2024 like @Chief Guns said the brass is discussing.

Yea that's the next step for the Mandarins. Going from the word "Feeder" to the words "Destination and Retention."

A show like Sinnerman can help make that happen.

Totally agree, and 91 has some KILLER visual technique. I think THAT year is when BD started their visual dominance in technique and T. Ryan's contribution to that is why.

...and '92 was right there. When a Man Loves a Woman was the talk of the season!

When a Man Loves a Woman was awesome! But for me when it comes to 92 BD............La Suerte de los Tontos.

I have no doubt they will field a great corps, it's their competition I worry about. I feel a lot of growth coming from the midwest. But I never was one to play the stock market 😅

Midwest has some straight up bangers! No doubt about that!

But I am telling you, Mandarins are building something big out west. Sinnerman was only the beginning.

They got a top five color guard, and the whole corps got a small taste of what it's like to compete for top five. They want the full course meal now.

Sinnerman was a smash hit. I can't wait to see the audition numbers in a few months.

This is more than I usually contribute to “next year’s” thread this early in, but there was question I was itching to pose all during this recent season. Felt it wasn’t right then, but definitely legit for ‘24.

Putting aside the monetary component [just for the sake of initiating a discussion], what are CrownLAND’s thoughts on commencing the ‘24 tour on the west coast.

Moreover, is their any believe/opinion that strategy contributed to Crown’s success in ‘13?

BD Honk here. Check this out..........

    2008 Phantom started out west.

    2011 Cadets started out west.

    2013 Crown started out west.

2016 Bluecoats did NOT start out west.

2018 SCV started out west. But they normally do anyways.

So four of the last five to beat BD started their tour in California. Coincidence??

Please tell he that we had a LOT of fun rooting for him this season, and please thank him for being a part of such an iconic show!

I look forward to rooting for him as long as he chooses to march. Even if he ends up at BD.... lol

I will let him know. I appreciate all of you and the support and love the Mandarins have gotten.

I could swear that last chord is still going on. Release coming on Friday, which is why Chiefs' son is coming home Saturday.

LMAO! Almost spit out my drink reading that. Too funny!

He has his own off campus apartment near Cal State Fullerton, which is where he goes to college.

He is coming home to our house Saturday for a welcome home from tour dinner. Wife is making all his favorite foods.

@Chief Guns I got to thinking—I thought I recalled you saying that your son mentioned there was still “more to come” beyond the spinnerman addition, but (surprisingly) there wasn’t any significant change to the ending at Allentown or Indy. It made me wonder if they tried something out but it didn’t work as planned so they scrapped it. Any chance of getting an inside scoop? 😁

He is coming home on Saturday, so I can ask him. But I think they extended the final chord in the closer when they are spinning the members. I believe my son said it was extended to 24 seconds. So that could be the change?
