  1. I got what you are saying. It made sense to me lol. But you are right. Some people on this forum are quick to blame everyone when their corps isn't scoring or placing where they think they should. It's always the judges fault lol. It's never that maybe, JUST MAYBE the other corps outperformed your corps. Heavens no we could never think that lol. I am BD all the way. I will be the first to admit Cadets outperformed them Saturday night. Cadets won fair and square. Too many excuses thrown around on these forums. And you might be right about no corps being a 99 plus. But if there ever was one, BD 2014 was it. That show was a masterpiece IMHO.

But if I have learned anything about DCP, it's that this place is cutthroat lol. We will turn on you in a second. Phantom went from being the darlings of DCP to getting thrown in the dog house lol. Even the Troopers are getting some flack their way. The Troopers!!! Lol. I used to think it was only BD and Cadets that would get the hate. Nope. After seeing the last couple weeks, no corps is safe on these forums lol. It's like Amateur night at the Apollo. Anyone can get it lol.

  2. It's ABSOLUTELY fun. MUCH better than last year (imo). NO corps this year is undefeated and there are so many strong shows that leave you wondering who's gonna win the next night.

As much as it pains me to see BD lose (DARN YOU BD!! LMAO!) I have to agree this year is really exciting. And now the Coats are joining the party tonight. Can't wait. It's going to be a slugfest till the end. Who ever comes out on top this year will have clearly earned it.

  3. I'm sure there are plenty of people who are inconsistent about what a 20 in a caption means. I'm not one of those people. I'm adamant about the relative nature of scoring (spreads mean more than the actual score) and think that a 20 means both bad number management and that the judge just couldn't go any higher relative to the rest of the corps.

Good insight. And I appreciate you're honesty in what a 20 means to you. Sadly not everyone is like that.

  4. I do like that they are playing more of Last Midnight melody. I think a nice company front would bring some power to the show. It's better than it was. You know there is a lot they are going to do with this show.

I could not agree with you more. They are not done with this show. Not by a long shot. And I know they are well aware of the Bluecoats monster GE show. And that breathtaking killer ending Cadets have. BD will adjust. They will be fine.

  5. Well we have to agree to disagree I guess. Sure there are problems in most corps this time of year but i think the quality is getting better all around, we dont have 4 or 5 corps looking to be 10-15 just by chance either. That side of the scale is quite impressive also. Bottom corps ( if good will always drive upper scores upward. I dont think we will see 99s this year , not that any of that matters , it's only numbers and dont mean very much, spreads are what counts.

Its like the question many ask every year. How did so and so get a 20 out of 20 or whatever, or a perfect score, the highest number does not nor has ever meant perfect. Just the highest number.

Would you agree that the 20's are perfects when we want them to be perfects and its a maximum score when we want it to be a maximum score? I have seen people on these forums get chopped at the knee caps for congratulating BD on their perfect 20's in captions. Those people get hammered and corrected that BD just got the max score. But those same people that was blasting BD fans was congratulating Crown for their 20 in Brass in 2013.

In regards to it's only numbers and it doesn't mean much, I found it very interesting in 2009-2010 when BD came close to breaking the scoring record, it mattered to a lot of people on this forum then. I remember seeing a bunch of post saying "At least they didn't break the record." "Cavies/Cadets scoring record is still in tact!" And a lot of other post/comments like that. But it wasn't until last year when BD shattered that record that all of the sudden the scoring record didn't mean anything and the real record that matters is SCV's scoring margin record. And it's safe to assume that if BD ever takes that record down, then DCP will come up with another record that actually means something and downplay the significance of the scoring margin record.

Not saying you are to blame. I have read a lot of your post/comments in the past and I come to respect you for your insight on the activity. You just happened to mention it so I wanted to give my perspective, no matter how wrong or right it is.

  6. Assuming Bluecoats new ending is going in over the next two days, probably won't see it tonight. Regardless, I'm excited to see where they fit in. I think for now, Cadets and BD will be 1st/2nd, and Bluecoats in between them and the SCV/Crown duo.

When I went to see BD rehearse in Grand Terrace a few weeks ago here in SoCal, I heard talks of a new closer coming in around Murfeesboro/Atlanta shows. I wasn't shocked. I knew that ending was just a filler. Lets see what BD has up their sleeve.

  7. All I can think of are the Drum judges from 1991 Star and 2008 Cadets. How they survived those closers I will never know LMAO. I remember seeing a Youtube video of 2010 BD. Towards the middle of the show you hear a BD Guard member yell LOOKOUT to the drum judge lol.

But having judges on the field could be a good thing as well. Was it 2002 Magic of Orlando when the Tenor player took a big spill and the drum judge helped him out towards the end of the opener? And the judge who chased down the Crown snare line and gave the kid back his drum after he lost it. Awesome moments. Without those judges who knows what would have happened.

  8. Not that it's an excuse for the Cavies but TODAY:

    A) slept till 10

    B) travelled to Rosemont

    C) marched in Rosemont Parade

    D) got to spend afternoon at Rosemont Picnic until 4pm

    E) back to stadium for warmup

    F) perform

Unfortunately the lack of rehearsal time definitely hurt the focus of the members. Watching the show you can see and hear the errors that weren't there last night. Also performance order and TOC home show for Phantom may also have played a part.

Considering Rockford is 45 milles from Dekalb, and Rosemont is 60 miles from Dekalb, one could say it's virtually a home show for both. But with corps being 500 miles from home in Missouri tomorrow night, i guess we will find out if PR placement over Cavies was a fluke.

  9. Yeah, Cadets got dumped finals night, yet still managed to tie BD for 2nd place overall. They won high percussion. But I thought they should have won brass, too. Oh well, the judge might have been right. There might have been some issues on finals night.

BD's brass was on fire finals night. I think they deserved to win brass in my opinion. But that Cadets brass was amazing!! Figured they would be 2nd. If someone can explain why SCV past them up, i would appreciate it. I have watched all those shows dozens of times. Cadets should have had 2nd in brass.

  10. Right. There have been seven years in which four corps scored above 96: 1988, 1998, 1999, 2008, 2009, 2013, and 2014. In those years, the highest-scoring fifth-place corps were indeed:

95.675 -- Carolina Crown "Out of This World" (2014)

95.650 -- Santa Clara Vanguard "Ballet for Martha" (2009)

    95.100 -- Cavaliers "Firebird Suite" (1988)

Indeed, although I'd add a caveat. There have been nine years in which three corps scored above 97: 1984, 1985, 1989, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2008, and 2009. In those years, the highest-scoring fourth-place corps were:

    96.800 -- Carolina Crown "Finis" (2008)

    96.400 -- Cadets "The Big Apple" (1999)

    97.200 -- Cavaliers "Traditions for a New Era" (1998)

    96.150 -- Cavaliers "The Great Divide" (2009)

However, in 2013, while only two corps scored above 97, two others were very close: Cadets had 96.950 with "Side X Side" and Santa Clara Vanguard had 96.850 with "Les Miserables". The latter is the highest-scoring fourth-place show ever in Finals.

The record that seems overdue is a year in which eight corps score 92. But right now your prediction does seem the most likely outcome.

Good stuff!! But i believe Cavies was 96.2 in 1998. That year was interesting too cause that's also the year we came the closest to seeing three corps go over 98. BD was third with 97.7

  11. Said the following in another thread, wanted to put it here as well................

While i am not a Troopers fan, i respect the heck out of their performers, organization, and what they mean to DCI . But i am certainly rooting for them in San Antonio cause i want to see if some of these people on this forum are man/woman enough to eat a huge plate of crow when the Troopers tear the f****** house down in San Antonio and show they belong. The gauntlet has been thrown down Troopers! Go get yours Troopers!

  12. All top 5 corps this year will be 96+. I believe there will be a 2 point spread between 5 and 1. Range 96.0 to 98.0.

There will not be a 99.65 this year, or perhaps ever again.

I agree that BD's 99.65 will stand the test of time. It's going to take a corps to have a major run 6-8 year run like BD is currently on to break it. I think we will see another 99 in the future. My money is on the Cadets to go over 99 again in the future. But 99.65, i will have great grand kids before that score goes down.
