I had CPR training in the Navy. Wasn't required then, but the folks in the front office started a class. Prob need a refresher.
Of all the schools and courses I did in my Navy career, TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Course) was top five most intense and one of the best. I would put it up there with SERE school.
TCCC is CPR training on steroids times ten.
I told myself if I ever became MCPON, I would require everyone in the Navy to go thru that course.

I marched with a world champion corps and I doubt I'd make a top 12 corps today.
I am a diehard 49ers fan, and a couple years ago I was watching a Jerry Rice interview. He said the way the game has evolved, and these receivers are bigger, stronger, faster than ever..........he said he would be lucky to be a top 40 receiver in today's NFL.

Really? What middle and high school kids do you know marching. I marched with a world champion corps and I doubt I'd make a top 12 corps today.
My kids Alma Mater, Vista Murrieta High School here in Murrieta CA, their bass drummer just marched #6 Bass for Crown this past summer.
I would have to ask my son as he is still tapped into the band, but I think Vista Murrieta had a few kids march at the WC level this past summer.
Mandarins had some high school kids as well.

That way judges don't rank and rate based on where they perform in the contest.
Except judges have the ability to go back and adjust numbers in the end if need be.

Revised due to no Cadets in 2024. Would love if my son is with a corp on this list in 2024, but would be totally ok with him sitting out a year or just moving on for good.
Well brother, there is a corps about 500 miles north of you that just "Sinned and Spinned" their way to a record breaking 2023 season, and put DCI on notice for 2024.
Their Corps Director just won Director of the Year.
I think they could find a home for your son's amazing talents.

Yes that’s what I’m asking. I am obviously not the target demographic (too old). For the life of me I can’t understand why I would care about the reaction of some rando I don’t know and never met. Must be popular with those who spend their lives on their phones. I like to go outside.
I know a couple that attended DCI Finals for the first time ever in 2022, and went back to Indy for finals last month. They also attended several shows in their home state of Texas in 2022 and 2023.
How did they learn about DCI.......... watching Courtney's drum corps reaction videos while cooped up in their house during the pandemic.
Before that, they never even knew drum corps existed. But they were a huge follower of Courtney. So when she started reacting to drum corps, it peaked their interest. They started binge watching drum corps shows during the pandemic, and they were hooked. When the tour started competing again in 22, they was in attendance.
Courtney has brought new fans to the activity thru her channel. I personally thank her for that.

You know I have ties to them via you, our HS percussion instructors, our sons HS bands designer, so I will continue to cheer them on with you. I'm still waiting on what my son is going to do, it's 80% PC and 20% why not just try out for someone else for the heck of it!
PC is rising. Where would they be right now if Covid hadn't stripped all their momentum away from 2019.
It would be awesome if your boy returned to PC to help them become the next DCI Finalist, but if not, I wish him the best of luck where ever he goes.

He came and sat with us semi-finals night and watched BDs run with us. He told us then that he coming back to the Mandarins in 24 and will age out there in 25. He didnt even have to think about it. He said there is no other place he would rather be. He loves the staff, his fellow corps-mates, the culture, the way they treat people etc. He has definitely found a home there, and my wife and I couldnt be happier.
He wants to be part of the first corps to bring a medal to the Mandarins at the WC level. And I can assure you they are talking about it.
There are a few other things that I know, but I will wait till it becomes public knowledge. But know this.........
Sinnerman was just the beginning.

My boy told me this was happening weeks ago, just didn't want to say anything as it wasn't my place. Whole lot more coming from the Mandarins that I have to keep a lid on. Anyone thinking their fairy tale run comes crashing to an end in 2024, you are about to be really disappointed this upcoming summer.

Ah man I used to have a theme park obsession phase! I was so hyped whenever someone mentioned Cedar Point or any other famous out-of-state park. Thinking about it, it was a very similar experience to DCI for me: special events that you get to go to once in a blue moon, it's niche, people think you're weird for being so into it, and constant fights over new vs. old. I still love theme parks, but I'm more into the Halloween event side of things now.
My high school years, 1992-96, me and my buddies practically lived at Six Flags Magic Mountain. We would get the Twickets and go back the very next Saturday, get another Twicket, rinse and repeat. I am surprised the park didn't start charging us rent lol. Good times.

...and they're WRONG. Mandarins were Mandarins all on their own!
I kinda love the fact that people are sleeping on the Mandarins...........I am not going to say anything, but if these doubters only knew............alot of people going to be wiping egg off their faces in 2024.

Why would that happen? If SCV is a world class corps, they will still perform after the open class corps.
I think that's what he meant. First WC corps to perform after Open Class, which I agree with.

With the announcement that SCV will be back; time for some 2024 Top 12 guesses.
1. Blue Devils
2. Bluecoats
3. Carolina Crown
4. Boston Crusaders
5. Cadets
6. Phantom Regiment
7. Cavaliers
*8. Santa Clara Vanguard
9. Mandarins
10. Troopers
11. Colts
12. Blue Stars
* = If they do a full tour and attend DCI finals. That didn't take long for the Mandarins to drop behind SCV.
But then again it makes sense, because some of the doubters were firmly convinced that SCV packed up their trucks and moved 90 miles east to Sacramento, and that's the only reason they were good.

Pretty cool that they were also voted Flo's favorite ballad. Doesn't come with anything other than pride, but shows the show resonated with the audience!
Heck yea! I called it when I first heard Take me to Church at Family Day. I knew it had a chance to be ballad of the year. And there were some phenomenal ballads in 2023!

So Texas
True.
But talking with my son, he said the Arizona show was worse than any show they did in Texas and Louisiana regarding weather. He said they rehearsed in Texas everytime, none canceled.
The AZ show, the staff basically said no way they were rehearsing in that heat, and the kids got that morning and afternoon off, then did the show that night.
Only bringing up AZ cause the temperatures mirror Vegas.

I mean, it would break my heart if DCI were moved to another city with a dome like Las Vegas or something...
The only issue with Vegas that I see is what about the corps rehearsals finals week? With temperatures possibly hitting 110-115 in August, I don't see how the corps could rehearse at their respective housing sites.
Or maybe once they get into Vegas Tuesday/Wednesday, they don't rehearse at all.

Judges bios do not indicate their competence to judge a caption. Their tapes and their sheets (together) do. Fans don’t get to hear or see them. But corps staffs do and they are the ultimate authority in determining competency. If you’re awful the corps themselves will show you the door.
- Fans don’t need to see judging qualifications. The only reason it was raised here was dissatisfaction with a result. Hoping perhaps that stirring up some trouble for someone they don’t know at all on the interwebs would help their team out next season i guess. Anyway ….
- Fans get to watch. They don’t get to play the game. If you want to play the game, go teach or judge. Otherwise , have some popcorn and post on DCP!
-
As for what other circuits do, if you think about who reads those bios (mostly parents who really have no idea what it all means) it’s basically a placebo to stop parents from complaining about incompetent judging. They will complain anyway but it works at least for some parents. And that makes it worthwhile.
addendum: After re reading number 4, yes DCI should post the bios. The placebo effect is quite real.
I would like this 100 times if I could.
Sadly your post will fall on deaf ears as soon as 2024 season starts and corps A is beating corps B, or corps C is beating corps D in GE and we (In general) don't like it.
