And we will see how much they suck on 11/11. In the mean time, enjoy your stay in Columbus.

Interesting. I live in Columbus and see zero mention of them anywhere around town. They started a facebook page for the winds group but then never added any followup content. If that have any intention on going the drum corps route, which I feel is a bad idea right now if they think they are going to field in 2024, they'd better get some recruiting going.
And why not join forces with the Saints?

I left California, but people are moving there unlike what someone says, and I'd move back for the right job that pays a high dollar amount. I'm just extremely tired of all the nut jobs trying to pick on California due to obvious political reasons...
Costs are high everywhere; fuel is even more of an issue there, but the whole tour isn't there...
As far as the Cadets taking a year off, I have no idea how this relates to that topic.
I hear California is a great place to get rings

I am always surprise at the end of tour to realize I have 200 000$+ to collect and even more to pay.
+ thing we forgot were coming our way + things we didn’t anticipate.
You have a ballpark but you can be 50-100k on one side or the other.
Many thing are not known before you have them (breakdown, housing difficulties, oven broken, rain, etc). It goes up fast.
C’mon … you know what bills are going to hit with a pretty good semblance of accuracy. The board , CEO and CFO knew what was coming with a reasonable degree of accuracy. If they didn’t … that is simply incompetence.

Well brother, there is a corps about 500 miles north of you that just "Sinned and Spinned" their way to a record breaking 2023 season, and put DCI on notice for 2024.
Their Corps Director just won Director of the Year.
I think they could find a home for your son's amazing talents.
And they are my pick for fourth next year

To do regional tour you need regional shows. To host a show you need to be a dci event partner. So they can oversee the tour stop you’re providing them. You as a show sponsor need to gamble your money hoping you can break even and sell a whole lot of concessions.
Plus you need a critical mass of corps. This might work in the Midwest and California, but every other region be ######.

I'll try to find the link, but I swear DCI survey results showed WC was like 60% music and music ed majors.
Mike
I just had a little giggle. In 1979, 27 had 20 sops. Two were music majors.

Look, I'm now in my 60s, and there is nothing I would love more than to transport myself back to attending the World Open in Lynn, MA in 1979 and see 60 "local corps" over two days.
Me too! We won that show!

We pushed our bus up the final quarter-mile to the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70. 40 kids with their shoulders to the bus, in billows of black smoke, some of it diesel, some of it clutch.
Good Lord, could you imagine the response to something like that today. We have a much safer environment today. State-of-the-art buses. Health and Safety staff. It's all to the good of course. It's also more expensive. LIfe is a series of tradeoffs.
In 79, 27 did their entire 2nd tour in only 2 busses because we crashed one at a turnpike toll booth.

Good. We don’t need any more drama for at least another week.
Think about all the drama that transpired just this week:
SOA and DCI sued
Another member abuse story, this time from Cascades
And now, Cadets taking 2024 off
All in just one week
I miss being bored in the off season

Sad. I wish this was a wakeup call to the activity to start scaling it back.

To be fair, I'm sure awareness is higher today. During my years, I think we only had 1 person during 1 season who was out for a bit due to injury. Of course, we had a highly talented guard then too, but I think awareness is higher nowadays and more consideration is given to injury. I was out one practice in Europe in '88 because I was sick. I thought it was motion sickness from flying but it must have been a bug that just happened to appear on the flight over there, because I've never gotten sick flying otherwise.
Never missed a rehearsal or show for really any reason. I think I have a perfect attendance certificate somewhere … oh wait … that was for Sunday School.

At the same time, the mission/vision/values of these organizations should at least be to do no harm. I think it's safe to say most, if not all, have failed at that at one point or another.

I was reading a post on the sub Reddit by the OP about how helpless he felt in the week between being cut and going home, how he felt isolated from staff and others, and how he felt that he didn’t deserve the resources afforded to abused members.
He talked about how his tour experience was to be be threatened of being cut, told to work harder, then more threats of being cut, work harder, and so on until he was finally cut … and then the post was deleted.
I am stunned at how absolutely horrific this young man’s experience was. It was obvious to me that he has been emotionally abused.
He felt he didn’t deserve resources …
The corps failed him, and may God have mercy on all those who contributed to this inexcusable lack of human decency.

What is wrong with US?
in DCI World Class Corps Discussions

There was what I consider a minor issue with state filings (501c3 nonprofit vs. charity certificate). That could have been handled by going to Cadets directly and not brought up at all on DCP. It’s this sort of thing that begs the OP’s question, I think.
