  1. And I've reached the conclusion in my interest in anythign that happens at this site... I've waited for this day for quite sometime. The day has come where people are now taking PRIDE in telling other people how: Inadequate that they are They don't deserve what they have recieved People's opinions are wrong (that's just funny to me) Much they SUCK(ED) This is beyond believable. I'm not asking everyone to agree or play nice. But some of the alligations being made are for just degrading and childish. One of the smartest men I ever got to learn from told me that you should never let anyone tell you want you do and do not deserve. They have no ####### right. No one should ever try to make themselves more knowlegdable by spreading negative claims to anyone else. All that means is you're insecure about yourself. It's not about where or when you marched. All it is...is that YOU MARCHED. I marched a few championship shows. Some have been listed...others have not. After 4 years of this activity I decided to give back and teach. I'm going to continue to do that until I can't anymore. Rather than be some high school/college know it all who comes up with excuses not to go anywhere in November but sit behind a monitor and point out why certain music or drill is UNWORTHY of a particular status. And do this behind a fake name and say, "So-So sucked...it was boring they should have gotten last and they should hang their heads in shame for taking the field blah blah blah." Guess what kid...you don't know what it takes to perform in June-Aug. so put up or shut up. Internet forums are a place where people should discuss and all that. I feel a ton of stupid stuff just comes pouring out of keyboards. I think great things have happened on this forum. Meeting people from various corps, helping people out, sharing information. But I see nothing beneficial from this thread. Everyone is a critic, so am I. It's just lame to see all the unneccessary bashing on here. So this is where I get off the Forum Train and wake up tomorrow and learn something to teach or teach someone so they can learn. And coincidentally enough some of you are going to go and figure out where I marched or how many hypocritical comments I made in the past 5-6 paragraphs. You could do that. Or book a flight to a audition camp and pick up a horn, weapon or some sticks and really figure out what those groups you bash do with their summer. Cause it's more than a silly 11 minute production... Have at it...
  2. 1. I think the most anyone could have seen this show this summer was about 35 times. Unless you were a member, staff, or volunteer with that corps. So yeah I don't know how many people can sample this thing 50 times. Star 1993 is kinda like that though to me. So i'll give you some credit on that statement. 2. I saw it at finals and sat there saying...uh...cool but where does this fit in the storyline/general effect or whatever. Cool idea but...um WHY do it? I didn't really buy it. They drum clean, i'd love to hear clean drumming...quarter credit. 3. Maybe you're speaking of some particular part in the show but uh...I think INTERGRATING the three sections of your corps is what is looked highly upon, not the opposite. I thought the ballad thing was very cool but that I think complemented Ensemble Music not Visual Ensemble. Until the closer i saw really no intergration whatsoever. 4. Descriptive? Yes, with the aid of amplfication but whatever. I still think it left people saying, "what the heck was that all about?" I got it for the most part so yeah alright. 5. Yeah, um you lost me here. Cause quite frankly how does original music...not work. I mean my definition of something not working is...it done broke itself or...oh crap there's a screw missing here. And from what I understand the closer was really Medea with some changes here and there so don't know what 2005 Cadets arrangement had that made it all "WORK" where everyone else that's tried it "FAILED"???? Innovative for this activity...NO. Innovative for the Cadets....YES.\ Im not hating the show i liked it the show. It was clearly a great designed show that was performed pretty #### well.
  3. The hissing you're referring about is actually the entire corps whispering the name: SLY. Sylvester Sylbilski is the visual caption head so they put it in the show.
  4. Here's my argument. I am not a big score person but there are somethings that kinda throw me off. For instance, why can't someone win DCI With a 95.4? I think that once you achieve a score of 98 and higher. What you are doing is standard setting and innovating the activity. 2002 Cavaliers did that without a doubt in MY mind. Did the 2005 Cadets do that this year...no. The cadets set new standards for the cadets. After I watched that show (live) I immediately realized that that is the best show the cadets have ever had! I won't hate, I loved a lot of parts. But for it to get 99.15...not diggin it. More importantly, this year's top 12 was fantastic. Everyone got better than the year before and I left saying, "wow...this was a good year." Just my $0.02
  5. To add to what the two other posters placed (which was great btw) the way I stay on my game is I do three sessions 1) Early morning stretch, breathing and vocalizing for like 10-30 minutes 2) Technical Studies (buzzing, clarkes/scales, articulation/long tones) 25 mins. - 1 hour 3) Repartoire for as long as I like:) Books i'd recommend: Song and Wind -Brain Fredericksen The Art of Brass Playing -Philip Farkas The Breathing Gym -Patrick Sheridan and Sam Pilafian Hope some of this helps you
  6. I've seen chunks of it. It's not a show off DVD. It's an educational DVD that explains the Cavaliers philosophies and how they can be applied to drum corps, wind ensemble, small ensemble etc...It's worth the 55 bucks if you ask me. Full commentary from the Caption Heads, Mark McGahey and David Bertman.
  7. hmmmm Shostakovich you say....HMMMMMMMMMM...maybe we'll get what we ask for this summer;)
  8. Flow Studies for higher range Etudes and octave down are nice for both high and low
  9. Fewer notes doesn't make a book easier by any means. If anything it's just as hard because of the exposure.
  10. Fewer notes doesn't make a book easy. The book is difficult based on EXPOSURE. And there might have been one facked note in the opener. Check your speakers maybe?
