The loss of revenue and DCI star-power would be pretty devastating.

They would need to be compensated. I would assume there would be a lot of perks the year after winning a Championship to offset the lack of being allowed to compete. Maybe an increase in the ability to determine the direction of DCI, more money, etc... You could probably apply it on a broader scale beyond just the previous year's champion to other Corps as well, maybe look at the top 5, or 7, or something like that.

I'm intrigued that the thought is about visual. Wouldn't the idea be that since you've already got a set player and several keyboard players in the pit who can crash a cymbal when necessary, you can free up five or so spots for the hornline?

I get the point and I guess that works for corps that have a lot of people. For some if we eliminated the cymbal line we would just have five less people because we either dont have enough horns to give them, or if we did...they might not want to learn a brass instrument during the tour anyway.

OTOH if you corps is large, does adding 5 more horns improve anything? Isn't there diminishing returns when you reach a certain size? I don't really know, just asking...

    Ummm...

If you’re actually concerned and want something to be done, you should not be so vague.

I think what the OP is saying is that it is strange that someone in DCI (who is not us), is doing something regarding elections which may be irregular depending on your view of the situation and requisite rules, and in any case might not be the most beneficial thing to be done in his opinion.

  4. I wonder if there's sort of a handicap to impress people when you're BD or SCV this year. I mean you have a consistent champion and last years champion, so everybody expects a lot. If you give a lot in their case it's just business as usual, so people aren't as impressed. I wonder how people would have seen their shows if they came on the scene this year as a brand new, never competed or seen before corps. People may have been really extra wowed and thought they were hands down the better shows. Just a thought.

  5. I picked 12 mix and match open and world (with more open because I saw them more).  Made it a personal rule to only allow a pick from the same corps once because my first try came up really lopsided:

    • As the Sun Loved the Moon (7th Regiment 2017)
    • The Grid (Legends 2016)
    • Passion in Red (Stentors 2019)
    • Coronation (Music City 2016)
    • Darned (Guardians 2018)
    • To the Moon (Blue Devils B 2016)
    • Caged (Southwind 2019)
    • Experiment X (Spartans 2019)
    • In Pieces (Vanguard Cadets 2017)
    • A Step in Time (Academy 2015)
    • Wild Horses (Troopers 2015)
    • Ebb & Flow (Jersey Surf 2016)

Notes: My choices needed to come from the latter half of the decade because I didn't see the earlier half. Also, Darned was not the actual name of the Guardians show, but you get the idea.
