I agree....but still a shame.  The evil doers got away with it.  The current members paid the ultimate price.  At least in terms of their organization.

I'm not crying crocodile tears...as a life long Boston supporter, I will say that many Cadets from 2023 have found a new home as Crusaders and they appear to be great additions to our organization.   It's just too bad their original corps got put down.

This happens all the time with NCAA sports team.  The current team is penalized for past offenses.  Coaches that are long gone and the team is still paying for those sins.

I think you’ll find the alumni corps a thing of the past in the near future. The Plymouth, MA Thanksgiving parade and evening standstill concert used to have an impressive number of groups each year that were fairly large. For Junior Corps alums, most marched prior to DCI or in the very early years. The Senior Corps seemed to generally be people who could no longer manage the current corps or the original corps disbanded. This past year there were only five corps participating, the membership was smaller and getting older. They still had heart and loved performing. People aren’t joining alumni corps in large numbers. The infighting may have something to do with it but I think it’s more changing times. Neighborhood drum corps have been gone for years. People who marched together since let’s say 1980 probably did not grow up together, go to school together, and as adults did not buy a house in the same area. That was the case with the first alumni corps. Allowing folks who did not march with the original corps caused some problems. I think that has subsided. When I hear the corps listed where Crusaders Senior marched, years back if you got the same crew together, you’d need the National Guard to keep the peace. It’s hardly an issue today but I heard a corps that tried to get off the ground never did because there was infighting about whether to allow rivals to join. The ironic thing is they were not a powerhouse back in the day and those that wanted to join to help them get off the ground marched with corps that used to beat them in competition.

Alumni corps is going the way of the Dodo. One offs like Bluecoats but nothing that requires a localized base.

The one-offs are pretty great though. Bluecoats, Scouts, and Cavaliers were actual alumni corps, too. I marched in a reunion corps with people who were too young to ever have been in the corps that was being memorialized.

These stories of infighting and sabotage among drum corps alums are so pathetic. As if this activity doesn't have enough challenges... Must we eat our young? I don't know how drum corps survives.

It seems to happen a lot with the Scouts, too.  Don’t get mad at the messenger. It’s been going on for decades.

after the last 6 years they should go back to being Plebes

My friend over in North Port was in the Plebes before she moved up to Cadets. She’s shown me a picture of herself with a rifle.  She was such a tiny little girl that the rifle was almost bigger than her. She  was actually from Garfield and was in the corps for the three-peat. I’m older than her but she’s my hero.

There was a 60s Sr corps called the Interstatesmen from NY/MA. In the 70s there was a corps with the same name that competed in the lower level Red Carpet Association. I thought the corps were connected until I said on RAMD I competed against them in the 70s.

Think flames shot out of my monitor from the response from a 60s member.

I understand.  The longtime alumni are protective of legacy.

(Forget this as see Tim already posted about it: Hazy on the name but think 27th Lancer alumni wanted to start an alumni corps and they couldn’t use the same. Used something like Light Brigade?)

Thinking our corps name is “the Cadets… but not those Cadets”

Years back a corps disbanded and a corps with a different name appeared from the same city few years later. Overheard this at DCA: “Are you guys the (disbanded corps name)”?

”NO we have nothing to do with them”.

Reply was give so quickly and emphatically 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I think it was Light Brigade and some 27 alumni were NOT happy. It was kind of like that with Kilties.  A few were on board with an alumni corps but many were vehemently opposed. When they started competing… ooh boy, then it hit the fan.

if they can get the brass back to the level of 19 coupled with the percussion of last year......man. now....get Gaines back?

That was the best Cavalier brass line ever imo. Next best 2002.  I’ve heard a lot of their brass lines since 1968.  It doesn’t mean anything. Just what my ears were telling me.

There’s a YT clip of the last +/- 2:00 of the show, and I’ve lost count of how many “music”—though not corps folks—I’ve shared that with, as an example of perhaps the most sublime B flat chord resolution ever produced on a football field.

Terri, for someone with such impeccable DCI credentials—to hold Crown ‘12 in such high regard—well, that’s pretty much the highest compliment anybody on these boards could make.

If I could go back in time and only see one live, it’d be a Sophie’s Choice between this and Star ‘91…

Just an old band kid turned drum corps kid. 😊 I just love the brass sound.

I loved Star that year, too. But the Crown show will always be top dog for me.  The brass was not only just about perfect, the show was so elegant. I guess that’s the word I’m looking for. Remember they mistakenly announced Blue Devils as the winner of the Ott that year?  Great brass line, too, but I just about flipped. I wasn’t the only one either.  lol 😂

That garnered a spontaneous standing O. I was standing, clapping, nodding my head before I realized it. It took me a minute before I realized it was in the middle of the show.

When I was at the Dekalb show, I was standing up and no one else was. I told Jim the drummer, stand up.  lol 😂  I guess it’s a brass player thing. I wondered if everyone around me was dead.

My favorite show of all time!!!   I regret I wasn't able to see it in person.

I was in the first row on the 50 in Indy. I also saw them at the first show In Louisville that year.  I thought they would win after the first view. I hope those members know that despite not winning, they were a part of a truly special show and people are still talking about it now.

honestly.....if i could have skipped retreat every show i marched except for finals, i'd have not been upset about it. do the work, get out of the party outfit, and have time to chill out.....would have been awesome. loading up would have been done, depending on when we went on could have had some good without worrying about getting it on my uniform would have been awesome, and since we wore all black the last 2 years, probably felt 20 degrees cooler

Anything to get out of that hat I had to wear…

I see what you’re saying but despite the drops in 2010, the show brought many wet eyes… in a good way. As for 2024’s guard, it has to do with the techs that clean the work and it looks like the techs from last year are back.

Good to see you back! Doin’ good here. Anxious to see what 2024 brings. What are you looking forward to?

Speaking of Phantom’s color guard… way, way back when DCP Dino’s roamed unsuspecting football fields.   https://fb.watch/q4E7agXq5Y/?

the idea was noble, but not everyone took it seriously. kids are kids. i also remember seeing video that year of a former corps director talking to members of another corps goofing on his corps retreat block.

in 1996, DCA wanted all of the corps to play the patriotic tune i believe one of the Macys corps used. a few corps took it seriously. while standing there playing, the amount of tunes played by corps around me that were NOT the assigned tune were at some levels funny, and a few annoying. to my knowledge no video of that cluster exists.

It’s a bunch of kids acting stupid.  I acted stupid all the time back when I marched. That’s why I spent a lot of my free time loading the equipment truck. Maybe that’s why I have a hiatal hernia now.  Acting like an idiot in retreat.

Junior Kilties would lift up their kilts and show the goods in retreat.  Thank God they were no cell phones then.  No one wants to see that. 🙋‍♀️

Full disclosure: I still occasionally do stupid stuff now.

yeah housing continues to be full of surprises regardless of what you think is nailed down in February

Oh that’s the truth right there.  The Cadets showed up at their housing in Cincinnati in 2014, it had fallen through and Jim had to get on the phone with his old Pride of Cincinnati folks and find them a place. Luckily, he was successful.

Sounds like Lentz and Tim Snyder didn’t get along. Lentz is an egomaniac with more failed drum corps attempts than just about anyone. Maybe it’s best he just stay in the gym.

I’m sure the current staff have already hired someone to lead the way.

For future reference: keep Mike Lentz as far away from your programs as possible.

You mean he’s more of an egomaniac than the others? Holy 💩

I just double checked myself to make sure I wasn't going crazy... but DCI did post on Instagram that five DCI tickets in Texas would be on sale today.

Something must have fallen through. Does anyone have any details?

    I saw that, too.  🤷‍♀️
