  1. ugh - by the time I got back from Prelims, grabbed a shower and answered emails and headed down the bar was CLOSED :(

darn midwest town shutting down at midgnight... grr. I was really needing a cocktail and some rawbar action

We'll be in the same place all three nights next year. God willing.
  2. Nooo! Don't do that! He'll just keep coming back. Like feeding a ramblin' dog!

(Hey, weren't we supposed to catch a drink in Indy? Sorry, completely forgot and had meetings and meals to attend. Lousy excuses, I know.)

. I was at the Alexander bar Thursday night. Present and accounted for.
  3. I attended a bit less than half of Sound Sport in Indy, catching a few teams/corps near the middle and then the last few as well. It was indoors due to rain. No group that I saw perform sounded as good as the best competitors in DCA mini corps competition, although a few might have scored in the 80s. Some of them did have some interesting visual ideas.

What made the event worthwhile for me was hearing the Bridgemen give their final, final performance (following their show the previous night at Semis, which I had not seen at the time): the full corps playing standstill in that small space was awesome, if ear-splitting. They were joined for "In the Stone" by Jersey Surf, and they played it twice!

    That was great!
  4. If they want drama, just follow corps volunteers...

...only people with the audacity to tell staff what is wrong and the corps director what would be better; then fight with each other over lights and thermostats.

That has never been our experience. I'm not sure that is how we want to characterize volunteers.
  5. Thank you so much for sharing this story...I've heard bits and pieces about the 1973 Boston Crusaders over the years but never knew the complete full story...Boston has a history night now but not when i marched with them...It all makes sense now and brings it full circle for me...including the story I've read about Burt Lancaster talking about the 1973 Boston Crusaders...their line of only just 25 against other of 128 strong...their parade rest for 45 minutes...the reason for missing finals the very first year of DCI...their 17th place finish with just 25 members in the corps out of 31 corps competing...and on and on...I'll leave this post with the quote from Lancaster...

    Back to the staff merri-go-round...

. Yes! But not before I say that we were all rooting for you. GIANTS indeed.
