That's not at all surprising, since DCI has been assimilated into and taken over by BOA.

It's just too bad so many are being turned away based upon their inability to fit in a ballerina leotard, rather than their musical aptitude.

never thought about the possible problem a marcher might have with wearing a garment that made them more self conscious about how they looked...and I guess an argument could be made for staying in shape but maybe the marcher spends more time on their instrument and perfecting it than in the gym...The uniforms of old  helped mask our imperfections ..LOL

Oh, one final comment about the show.  I feel they would pick up about .5 by simply cutting that insipid "Can I get an Amen!" line.  At that point the sinning has insued, so a token throw away line that is somehow supposed to invoke a Southern African American church element really just does not work on soooooo many levels.  Worst element of the show in my opinion.

let us not forget half naked Jesus!!..Why?

So - saw the run tonight. I honestly don't get the scoring. Regiment brass beat Cadets brass? Cadets in 8th in drums?

Personally felt the show should be over a 94 and is being dramatically underscored

But - that said - I also feel several corps are out of order, BD should be at least a full point ahead of SCV, and Cavaliers shouldn't be in the neighborhood of Coats

So, apparently what do I know. Personally feel Regiment and BK should be above Crusaders - and Cadets in sixth

Honestly feel the scoring is becoming more ridiculous the past few seasons. And then we watch the scoring and we all start buying into it as "truth"

But then what do I know.

piggybacking on your "but then what do I know", it seems to me that fantasy and pop culture have become predominant in DCI such that the shows start resembling each other..particularly the openings..that's why I enjoy the Cadets and BD..If I never see a blooming flower or a waking from sleep scene again in drum corps, I'll be fine..but then again , what do I know

Some on DCP are concerned about the higher placing corps using mic's to enhance their sound.   And many appreciate the smaller budgeted corps just the way they are.  They're working hard, giving the mm a great experience, while knowing they will be losing some to bigger corps.  The majority of fans might just want the brass lines to provide their sound without a steroid boost.  That''s an equal playing field.

i hear ya..just don;t think the yolks going back into the egg, because done tastefully amplification can add to a corps product

The inherent problem, though, cannot be fixed in DCI because the competition of moving corps on and off the field is so faced paced.  Rock concerts do very well with amplification in stadium venues; however their sound engineers take hours prior to the concert to go through multiple sound checks in order to get the acoustical mix correct.  The problem in DCI is lack of any time 'at all' during amplification set-up to do any meaningful sound checks.  Corps are lucky to even get stuff hooked up, let alone do a brief sound check, without getting a timing penalty. Thus in DCI we end up with the goo, the shrill, the weird mix, the boomy, the feedback, ad infinitum.

i don't know if this has ever been discussed, so forgive me if it has..Can DCI  purchase a sound system that corps can use (or not) so as to establish an equal playing field for all corps..it would seem that a consistent(and reliable) electronics set up would eliminate the variables that have been discussed ad nauseum and eliminate the competitive edge that the wealthier corps have..it sounds more simplistic than it probably is but Pioneer would at least have the access to electronics as does BD...how they're used would still be the creative prerogative of the corps..just a thought!

  6. Many of the innovations in drum corps came about in part by the contributions of the Cadets under the stewardship of GH..The irony is that the acolytes have changed the activity such that drumming and bugling are now rendered as support to the increasingly important visual design..Now if that's what this activity has become, so be it...As to whether GH should step down I am not qualified to make that call..I will however suggest that 2017 is a tipping point for the Cadets..hopefully, they maintain their current crop of MM's and improve exponentially..Good luck in Indy!!

  7. what i saw and heard last night, though far from perfect, was the first time this season that i felt that the kids gave the audience the opportunity to love this show..scoring aside, the crowd response during and after the closer was what i've been waiting for all season..keep working cadets..it's starting to gel.

What is everyone's opinion on the change of solo in Simple Song?

I think it was long over due..the horn soloist never made me feel like he embraced the melody but rather just wanted to get through it without making a mistake..good show tonight!

  9. Like several in this forum, I was looking forward to seeing(and hearing) SCV and Devils go head to head,.But the feed was so poor (particularly during their shows) that it doused the vibe for me for the rest of the show...somehow knowing that your feed can abruptly end does not make for a chill, sit on the couch evening..Tomorrow we'll see if these messages make a difference

Blame it on the farmers.

Lewisburg always was well-attended... sold out several times... but the crowd vibe was different, at least for us!!!  LOL

performed with the Skyliners in 1968 at Lewisburg Federal penitentiary...weird location but the inmates were highly appreciative..as a matter of fact some of the inmates knew Pepe and Walt and shouted out their names during the exhibition
