  1. in other words, "we punish people we don't like and let our freinds off scott free.....and there's nothing you can do about it!!!"

I'm sorry you feel that way, Stu.......but that statement is your opinion, and doesn't reflect the parameters regarding why a member receives, or doesn't receive a suspension/ban.

  2. This is a very large forum, so the moderators should first be commended for wanting to manage it at all. That said, my problem is not with the moderators themselves but with a lack of transparency in the moderation process. In Nikk's case, it seems he had no idea how long he was banned for. That strikes me as a problem.

I do not know the entire situation, but I feel transparency is always the best solution to any malcontent among forums.

I'm only going to say this regarding Nikk's suspension.........he is well aware why he was suspended. Just like anyone else, he received via email the Suspension Notification, and replied to it.

  3. Well, Nikk Pilato IM'd me today informing me that he has been banned from DCP. For what, neither one of us are sure. He asked me to post this.

"Well, I've been banned, presumably for the thread with Vic Russell, which is odd because I don't see things in that thread that I don't see every day on DCP. In any case, it provides me with a convenient excuse to retire from DCP, and I suppose a "thank you" is in order for the overeager mod who did the banning. Hope to see some of you in Atlanta, and if anyone ever needs to get in touch, I think you know the email addy (and if you don't, you can find it on my website). Take care y'all."

Let me clarify, for the record.

Nick was suspended for three (3) days, not banned.

Also, FYI, the only staff member on DCP that "hands out" suspension, is the Community Administator, and currently that is me.

Lastly, it's a simple process.....I'm made aware of possible infractions, I then research it, and make my ruling based solely on what is wrritten within the CG's. Anyway you color it, a personal attack is a suspendable violation.

As i've stated before...........the Community Guidelines govern the community, we (staff) just enforce when needed.

  4. I guess I never realized that the pit was a thorn in the corps side. To me, they have always played well, with a degree of maturity and musicality that I have never heard duplicated by any front ensemble anywhere. They are just a step above IMO. A lot of corps play together and play well, but nobody has the finesse of the Devil's pit. They blow my mind.

"Thorn" maybe to harsh, but it has been cumbersome on their overall percussion placement in recent years.

  5. Maybe I'm a beer drinker at a wine party lol. If you dont mind me asking, why do you think it is brilliant? If you've already answered this in another thread, kindly post the link :)

Quite simply, the entire "theme", design, and all other aspects flows nicely, in fact....IMO, flawlessly. Not once during the show did I ever "checkout", and then stumble back into it.

Anytime you can capture an audience in this fashion, "brilliant" come to mind easily.

  6. Sure. Essentially, wireless is unreliable relatively, and it's also subject to radio wave interference. That's not to say that cabled amp systems are perfect... however wireless can be messed with. It must be subject to potential interference. So for those reasons, I think at this time it would be in everyone's best interest to not use it.

I see the day when someone's final show is jacked with, and it's not that far off.

Good points, but I'll say this.

Corps taking the chance of that happening is the same as taking chances on show design.......it either succeeds, or fails.

  7. OK, so I think we can all agree that there is a glitch in the matrix. Judge amps or ditch amps. Of that, I think we're sure.

Well, one other thing. Should we happen to be dealing with electricity next year of any kind, I would suggest a minimum of one rule change no matter what. Ban all wireless electronics. All amping/miking has to be done through a cable, if at all.

Are you with me on that?

Can you expand on why you feel that way, regarding wireless?

  8. Percussion section.

Yes, they still employ one of the finest battery sections in DC, but this year, they have a front ensemble to match it, which could equate to a percussion trophy in Madison.

The battery is SO clean and crisp, that errors are easy to point out, (keep in mind that I'm able to stand 3 or 4 feet from the line, given my alumni status, and being childhood friends of ScoJo, doesn't hurt either :P ) which is more good than bad. There just isn't ANY grey area.

Without boring anyone, I let you be the judge on this.

It has been said in the past that the "pit" has been the thorn in the Dev's percussion side, but IMO, that notion will be erased this season.

    Props to Jim Wunderlich.

  9. Like it or not Cadets will likely be your 2006 champions. The way I see it - it won't be close. They have breathtaking potential IMO

Although I can appreciate your sentiment in that statement, it could change once you've seen the "blue" corps from the west. For this drum corps fan, I can think of a handful of times I've uttered the word "brilliant" when describing a corps, ESPECIALLY this early in the season, but after experiencing the Dev's for the past three (3) days, the word flowed from my mouth.

That said, it's going to be one #### of a year for DC. :)
