their brass are amazing this year.  already with a rich ensemble sound with a very challenging book for me, "edge" comes from playing great source material as well as it can possibly be played, and this hornline will do it.

Yes, I just don't get it. All the people predicting Vanguard 4th, 5th or 6th. This show is championship worthy IMO. I like it better than BD's show, although theirs is pretty #### good too.

  2. Oops. I just watched Madison's preview. Cavies will place 12th this year.

In all seriousness, I am really impressed by what I saw from Madison tonight. I think this is their best show since 2015, which is a good thing. Unis are great. Love the all white.

The show is obviously not finished but I think it has potential.  But once again the uniforms add nothing.  Less is sometimes "more" but not in this case.

I'm telling you. There is going to be some type of reveal with that uniform to add a huge splash of color to the show at some point. There has to be.

I’ve seen every corps in the top 12 at this point except for the Blue Stars and recent videos of Crown. This is an educated guess 🙂

As I've said before, you can't judge the quality of performances through video shot on a cell phone.

I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way the Cavies are going to finish 11th place. There is absolutely no way. I will be shell-shocked if they finish outside the top 6. Of course, ALMOST anything is possible, but them finishing 11th is not.

The show is so clearly modeled on 2018/2019, with a talented group of MM’s, that I dunno about that!

For one thing, it’s arguably got a more coherent theme (Nirvana — transcendent state in Buddhism, and also the name of a legendary rock band, hence a show with Indian flair and a Nirvana song).  The visual design and body movement all pick up on strands of that; the inclusion of Nirvana’s music is clever and used throughout; and their marching technique is already pretty beautiful for June… Drumline speaks for itself. Once the hornline gets some power, I think it’ll really be clear that this year’s program is not to be underestimated.

My thoughts exactly. My feelings remind me a lot of how I felt in 2018 early season. This show, like that show, has the makings of being a beast.

Last year's show, IMO, was so problematic, from the color palette to the pacing of the music. The corps proper got lost in the field with the grey uniforms and those tarps didn't work because they hid the corps. Colors were all wrong. The pacing of the show, aside from the ballad, was basically all mid-tempo. The 2019 show was the misfire. The 2022 show is a return to 2017-2018 form.

    They will contend. Certainly.

Watching SCV a second time made me have some additional thoughts. First, all of the cages. Again. We've seen this movie only it was better last time because you also had ramps that were used very effectively. A couple of those cages looked a little wobbly too as the sopranos were climbing them. Like me trying to climb a ladder to change a smoke detector battery kind of wobbly. The uniforms - agree, they need more color contrast out there. Some orange, some yellows, some something. Oh wait, how about some friggin RED AND GREEN??? The percussion section - earlier comments still hold, but now I see why. Jeez, they're young. So the good news, lots of room to grow and experience. Pretty sure there are not one, but two female snares also - always good to see. SCV, like so many corps, just don't have enough all-hands-on-deck on flags time and forego some of the rifle time. Yeah it's neat, I can throw a rifle 50 ft in the air and catch it with my toes, but all guard on flags not only makes you look big, it adds so much to the presentation. That's one thing that always wins me over with BAC. They tend to do that a lot.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I would like more unison flag work as well. Perhaps that is coming - it certainly will in the closer.

I do not think we are going to see only white from the corps proper this year. There has to be some kind of reveal. Those white uniforms seem baggy and with room for something underneath. It seems like when the find nirvana there is going to be a big color splash, and IMO nothing goes better with purple than orange (and pink). I bet we're going to see some reveal and it'll be exciting.

First, I mean no disrespect to the members. Second, I love what drum corps are doing with uniforms these days. Brings the show to another level.
But, the Vanguard uniform is awful. Looks they are wearing diapers.  What happened? The 2018 and 2019 uniforms were great. Someone dropped the ball here.

You absolutely mean disrespect. If you didn't mean disrespect, you wouldn't even be here commenting on this thread. You're here to cause trouble. You're here to fire people up. You're here to disrespect a bunch of young kids that are working their butts off.

But you can tell that the corps isn’t even excited about them. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 the corps did a uniform reveal. And once again, I think those uniforms looked fantastic. This year nothing! They know they’ve messed up. I wish I knew how to post a photo here so I could show you a picture from their warm up. They look thrown together, and poorly sewed.

They aren't done yet. There is no way there isn't something under those uniforms. I actually love the white of the corps with the purple of the guard. It's much better than last year's disastrous color pallet.

Cavies in 11th??? lol….have you ever watched drum corps before? You do realize that the corps lowest placement in 35+Years was 9th in 2015 and that was because 90% of the corps caught a stomach virus. They had to drop out of competitions because there weren’t enough members to field a show. They’ve only not been in the Top Six four times since 1985.

To be fair, those aren't predictions. Those are a wish list. Predictions are meant to be taking your best educated guess. Clearly not happening with this one, LOL.

I enjoy vanguard a lot, gonna have to revisit when I see them visit their second home in Denton in about a month, but I’m not feeling their show, I’ve not been feeling many corps shows to be fair, it’s also early, but I’ve yet to find a show I can cling onto this year and really really dig, at least from what I’ve listened to so far. At least when I see them mid season at what will definitely be a great show all around in Denton with so many heavy hitters going, I’ll definitely be in a great mood 🙂

I saw their first show in 2018 over that scope app that begins with a p (can't remember it, periscope or something) and felt the way you felt. The next night I saw it live in Stanford, and was so completely blown away. I feel similar about this show than I did about the 2017 and 2018 shows.
