As everyone else has said, get well soon! It's gonna be hard fighting off certain people tonight without your help! Lol.

I would suggest Georgia On My Mind, but I think that's already taken.

But they're not competing this year, so it can be done. Lol.

Great Idea, but they have that app preset and it's already off. Having to interchange songs would be a disaster.  Just imagine different songs playing over the phone at the same time. lol.

Unless it's not a preset in the app, but rather a preset on the server, which is a possibility. The good news is that I think the sound system would drown out any random songs playing. It drowns out people talking unless they're right beside you. At least from my experience watch corps live.

Swapping out the song bit based on the venue ala Cavies with their stand up comedy jokes bit would be a nice touch.   They could save "Back Home Again in Indiana" for finals.

I was just discussing this with a friend, which is why I made the post. I understand why they continue to use Carolina in My Mind, but I do think if certain state have a song big enough for the local audiences to recognize it they should go for it. Yellow Rose of Texas, Sweet Home Alabama, Blue Moon of Kentucky, You and I (Nebraska), New York New York (or Empire State of Mind for the younger crowd), etc.

  4. Who wants to take bets that for the Texas tour the "favorite song" bit gets changed to The Yellow Rose of Texas? I could see it happening after Avon went down for the San Antonio Super Regional and did an on-field warmup with it with Matt Harloff at the helm.

The cash cow is likely all dried up and she has moved on to other videos that provide her more revenue

Oh I'm sure that's what it is. I was just wondering if she was actually going to make true on her promise to attend. It's not likely, but my mind got curious when one of her reaction videos popped up on my YouTube feed.

If flo had any budget they would hire Courtney to do color alongside Steve R -- wouldn't that be a hoot! I'd like to see youtuber EMCproductions in the role of sideline analyst -- *then* flo would be cooking with Crisco!!!

This. 100% this! With an after show of her just freaking out. I do think a bit of her videos were played up in the beginning, but there was something endearing about her once she really started to understand the sport. I think in the end she really started to enjoy drum corps.

The umbrella, hammer, and (funny enough now) crown are formed in the 2006 ballad. Representing “Alice” remembering Liquid, the drum feature, and the chess game (Dancer in the Dark ballad) from the 2005 show. The end of the 2006 opener had a keyhole (like in a door) rotating and turning into an eyeball

I wasn't big on the 2006 show. 2005 is superior in my opinion. Not to diminish the 2006 show though.

Not sure if you know this or not, but he came up with the cross to cross drill when he went to a church in New Jersey, it was all in his head and never wrote it down on a drill chart. Supposedly Star learned the drill to it and ended practice at 3:00am with Zingali showing them how do it without a drill chart..

I always heard he wrote it on a napkin. I did know they practiced it until 3 am, and didn't use a drill chart. That move will forever live rent free in my mind. My favorite drill move of all time.

I don't know if anyone else here is a fan of the band A Day To Remember but they just released a new single today called Miracle. They say Right Here, Right Now multiple times in the song and all I could think about was Crown!!

    Anyways, good luck tonight Crown!!

I still can't believe they don't play a single line from Jesus Jones. Big missed opportunity there in my opinion. Replace one of the "Right Here, Right Now"s with a Mello lick of the chorus or something.

Jeff Sacktig is a former drum corps member and current visual designer. He is mostly known for writing the drill for 9-time DCI World Champions "The Cadets", though he has also worked with Capital Regiment, Magic of Orlando, and other marching bands and indoor percussion ensembles. Jeff was a member of from 1986 to 1989, playing soprano. During his tenure, he was featured as a soloist multiple times.

Sacktig began working with visual program of The Cadets in the early 1990s, eventually becoming the corps' drill writer. His drill style is heavily influenced by that of former Cadets designers George Zingali and Marc Sylvester. His drill often involves large, sweeping curvilinear forms, in contrast to the more compact geometric style of Michael Gaines. His drill is often fast and high-risk, with many exposed block rotations and pass-throughs.

In 2005 and 2006, Sacktig experimented with a "representational" style, using drill formations to communicate meaning within the context of the program. This is most evident in "Liquid," the second section of the 2005 show, "The Zone," where waves, a fish, a waterfall, a faucet and a working showerhead are all incorporated into forms.

Sacktig's drill for the 2007 show, "This I Believe," seems to have abandoned this concept, as the corps as a whole "returned to tradition" somewhat. The drill for the 2007 show seems to borrow heavily from the 1998 show, "Stonehenge," which Sacktig considers his best work.

I knew about the wave, fish, and waterfall in 2005, but I don't think I ever noticed the faucet and showerhead. I'll have to go back and rewatch.

I loved that show, I personally think it should have beaten Cadets 2 uniform gimmick that year - but others felt differently

Agreed. That BD show just felt so raw and authentic. I still have love for the Cadets that year, but I think this is the one and only time where I can honestly say I felt like BD got robbed.

Okay I’m going to probably really be showing my age here, but specifically what do you mean by this “gift?”  I know that Zengali is legendary, but I need to be enlightened a bit on this part lol.

He was the legend who wrote the cross to cross drill for Star, and so many of the legendary Cadets drill moves from the 80s, particularly the Z pull.

I'm a youngin, only 31, so if I need to be corrected then someone with more knowledge of that time can take over. That's just a small bit of info I know.

After having watched every live Flo offering to date and a replay of BA that’s been posted on YouTube, I’ve come to the following conclusions for Crown ‘22:

    1) Irrespective of final placement at season’s end, my favorite show since Relentless. By a wide margin.

    2) Crown’s never won their home show. I’m no handicapper, but I guarantee the audience response at NightBEAT will be verge on hysteria.

    3) Likewise, LOS will go nuts. If they can tweak/clean/some Zingaliesque flash of brilliance the closer, we’ll see a standing O for the ages.

If anyone is to pull off a Zingaliesque finishing touch, it's definitely going to be Sacktig. And that's not me being a homer, that's just me saying he knows his #### and is probably the closest thing we have to Zingali in todays modern drum corps.

Five years from now, when I want to revisit some shows, I won’t be reaching for the recent BD shows.

Last BD show I reach for is 2011. And that's not because I hate the current BD shows or anything, but that's the last time I truly remember feeling differently about a BD show. It's also the last one that I truly liked. Not liking something doesn't refer to hating it, just not my cup of tea. Folks need to realize that when you say you don't like something, it doesn't automatically mean you hate it.

I like this. But I also like the audience's favorite song being the mello lick.

Maybe they could play audio of them playing it from 2012 or 2013? Ya know, since recorded brass is where we're headed next supposedly. Lol.

Dumb idea I just had that would amuse me and the folks on reddit and no one else, probably, but I need to put it somewhere:

For one show, replace "Carolina In My Mind" with the entire brass line coming in out of nowhere on a ffff B-flat major chord, with the mellos doing the Crown mello lick.

Then do the rest of the show the exact same way.

See, I thought at Finals they need to take the fakeout out after the countdown and just give us a fat hit like they did in 2014 after that countdown. Scare the #### out of everyone in attendance since it would be unexpected, and possibly win some GE points in the process. Lol.

I hope Gabe Trotter is here for this take of his on DCP FB

Lmao. Shoutout BD for moving like 4 times in their show. Every other corps is out there working hard while BD stands still for 10 minutes and waits for the judges to hand them a ring. They dance from amorphous blob to amorphous blob and then stand for 45 seconds to play their horns. The “epic” ending to the show is them marching at like 120 bpm for a minte and a half. The arrangement of moon river is too much. They tried to add too much to it and it comes out as a hot mess. No amount of good players can fix an arrangement that sounds like someone’s cat ran across their keyboard and they decided to just go with it. Before any of you try to hit me with the “wElL tHe JuDgEs SeEm To DiSaGrEe” I don’t care. If you watched that show and legitimately thought it was two points better than any other corps that performed you’re delusional. They could go out and sit on the ground in silence the whole time and some of y’all would still be saying it’s “genius” or “revolutionary”. Stop letting the judges scoresheet tell you what is good and what isn’t. If their name didn’t carry as much weight as it does they would be getting railed by everyone on this page and at every competition they went to.about how the show is mind numbingly easy. I have fully prepared my mind and body for the comment section so bring it on.

Some people are just messy. What was the point of bringing someones FB post/comment here, when they probably aren't even members? Does it make you feel good to make fun of a college student? Validation? Some people want to talk about bullies, then want to post stuff like this, react to it with a laughing face. Humility is much needed for several members of this forum.
