It was the most compelling design but that cadets corps was a GE beast and would have won by more under a current system including guard in the score - that cadets guard was insanely great. Live the show was absolutely amazing

For all you people.in denial who are so blind to the facts, HERE THEY ARE IN BLACK AND WHITE.

SHUT IT DOWN period. Anything else is complete denial of the facts.

And to date the Feds have failed miserably at taking the proper actions on many points.

For the safety of all involved with drum corps from the kids to the staffs to the fans...cancel the summer tour. Period. This country is nearly two months behind in testing, treating, and conditioning for the outbreak. Wholesale quarantines should be coming across the country. We have more to look out for than drum corps.
And the experts are already predicting a second outbreak of the virus.

Although this was written to the citizens of Alabama, it is relevant to every one in the country. Even more so to some in other states. Please read.

Why? There's no limit to how loud they can PUMP UP THE VOLUME, PUMP UP THE VOLUME, PUMP UP THE VOLUME.
But the first 1000-watt-amped shattering clarinet squeak that shreds every toupee in the stadium happens in 3.........2..........1...........ROFLMAO, can't help it but it really is a funny thought.

It will still be called DCI, rebranding would be horrible strategic decision. It will still be the cutting edge of the marching arts activity and will remain so. While HS marching band has become much better recently they still don't have the time or the maturity of performer to tackle what drum corps do every summer.
If this passes and you leave the activity then that is your choice but I would ask you to reconsider and give the new addition a chance to see how it impacts the activity. If this is the red-line for you that cannot be crossed then I say thanks for your years of support.
You are sadly mistaken in your sweeping statement about high school bands. Not all, but there are numerous high school bands that can perform circles around many of the WC corps. But they are still high school bands, not drum and bugle corps.

They don’t care. They’ve bought into the kool aid. They cite this untapped pool of revenue they provide no research to back them with, and duck dodge parry spin thrust when expenses are brought up or say “ it’ll help lower corps fill up” ignoring the fact thousands of brass, guard and percussion members don’t go to those corps now.
so get ready for January 2022 to be right back here, maybe next year they’ll push raising the membership limit
And this is definiitely an activity that the cost increases exponentially for every person added to corps, and aside from housing issues. So then they will start screaming for more revenue.

She had absolutely no way to reconcile her claims that the Task Force was assembled to explore new revenue streams, yet there is nothing in the explanations she has that identify a single dollar of new revenue that could be achieved by changing the "available instrumentation" of the ensembles. She contradicts herself in saying that they are not proposing to increase the size of the corps. They really screwed up by trying to hide a "design & instrumentation" rule proposal under the guise of "we need to make more money." There's zero logic there.
Anyone care to take a stab at how allowing "all instruments" would contribute to new revenue in any way?
Is DCI having financial troubles? There should be an explanation as to why more revenue is needed, not that they just say it is. Maybe it is time to re-evaluate the activity and propose new model that is more economically feasible.

My own guess is they would change Brass Performance to Wind Performance. I doubt there would be a separate WW judge.
Oh but then there would be.a bunch of ###### off people because the WWs are not getting the attention they deserve.. lol

It’s a lot more difficult to be creative without props. It’s monkey see monkey do with original thought being the exception.
Look no further than WGI where hundreds of participating units are like one another, then there’s that one original idea that surfaces from the midst of all the boring and another trend begins until the next original idea.
t’s a lot more difficult to be creative without props. It’s monkey see monkey do with original thought being the exception. EXACTLY!!!!! Talent. Why bother with that when there are so many crutches to disguise the lack of.

Yeah if they want to place 25th
would be interesting to see how the judges react

As a novel exercise, wouldn't it be interesting if a corps had the balls to put a show on the field that is 11-12 minutes of great music and visual design minus props, tarps and only brass instruments and drums.

Yep never was a MB fan and sound of horns/perc were what kept me interested after 45 years. Maybe time to check the brass band scene “for something entirely different”. Live an hour from Gettysburg so who knows
We are really just beating a dead horse anyway. Drum corps program designs have relegated great music scores and good marching (MM will soon become eomething else) to the back seat as show designs are quickly evolving into stage productions. More and more there is less marching and playing. WGI be ######.

Someone please correct if I’m wrong . . . .
ANY instruments, woodwind and beyond, are already legal. We’ve seen all manner of instruments appearing, most recently violins, guitars. It would seem, this current proposal by Kathy Black is unnecessary.
No doubt in my mind, this proposal is actually intended to permit and normalize many woodwinds marching on the field throughout the show. In effect, completing the morphosis into average, everyday scholastic marching band
________
Certainly, I am disturbed by this proposal, and saddened. C’est la vie.
Exactlly! So DCI be gone. No need when there are high shool and post secondary marching bands.

Just like amps. Get one piece in, let it settle, then take the next step.
Ant there is the aspect of size of MM on the field having a negative affect on the visual design. Look at the larger BOA band show designs. There are so many kids on the field that it looks like mass confusion. Especially the Texas mega schools, where they think bigger is better, more is more and money is obviously not a problem.

The band kids have been brought there on the group rate by their director and most of them will never return again.
This old hanger on is out if they pass woodwinds. 2020 will be my farewell tour. 👋
Terri I won't go that far yet, but I'm not far from it. Last year I went to the theater and the sound was so horrific because of amplification that I left and asked for my money back. Any instrument? WTF?

really? has amplification been repealed? no, it led to electronics. has Bb been repealed? no, it led to any kind of brass. even the outcry about taking the drum judge to the 3 yard safe zone has stayed intact and in fact the push to remove field judges continues.
so what has fan outcry changed?
the amplification rule change does appear to address some issues anyway. the operative word being "appear".
