It’s hard to be an SCV fan in the pre-season— complete radio silence. Hope their show can match last year’s one in terms of intensity and virtuosity.

Of course I want them to win tonight, but having seen the Blue Devils (can’t stop humming their opener), it’ll be a task for SCV to win the first show, especially with how BD seems to come back even stronger after a Finals defeat (it was more of a trounce, actually).

Here’s to a reignited rivalry between my two favorite corps!

this should be exciting.  i love SCV's music but like many have said, BDs hates to loose and usually comes back loaded.

Much fun to be had by all.

Ok, was it better than last year, or 2017, or 2016? Yes. Was it raising the bar for the corps? Yes. Was it raising the bar for the activity? No! Unlike last year, I feel there is a lot of room for character development, and that is the only hope they have to stay in the top 12. However, this is a bottom third (or lower) design right now.

    NO

I still haven't been able to find a video of the show yet. Yeah, disappointing finish tonight and the word on the street isn't very promising. Could be at risk of sitting in the stands on Saturday night at Lucas Oil. Hope not.

Lookinng forward to seeing Mandarins, Troopers, Blue Knights

We'll know for sure tonight. I am optimistic based on the 6 minutes of music I've heard (standstill) and 2 minutes of on the field video I saw. Can't wait to see how tonight pans out.

Well............seems to me they were left behind tonight.  i was very disappointed in drill.

I watched the live stream and then a couple of times after.  Sound quality was not that great due to playing inside.  Lots of echoes.  There were some pretty good musical moments.  Eager to see how it all comes together with design, drill, visual, CG and (sorry) UGH, costume.

    AGREED!

However, it will take someone from the outside to monitor/ensure that those funds go where they are supposed to.

I have suggested several times over the last couple years that a special campaign should be mounted to specifically fund salaries for the best designers money can buy.  And that given the purpose I suspect money would flood in.

While I have yet to see this thought posted, it may be time to pull a 'Crossmen' (i.e. move the corps to a market that is more conducive to financial support). Rockford is apparently not that market. While I would not like to see this happen, it is better than the corps disbanding.

    So, what are those markets?

Man you opened a big can of worms.  You said it I didn't but there is merit.

The problem is, as I see it, if they aren't relevant (competitive) then I fear they will cease to exist. Playing a great book is NOT necessarily going to keep them relevant in the activity. Sure, we might like hearing it but, if we don't get to hear it on Saturday night, what's the point? I don't necessarily care for the chop shop arrangements but, sadly, that seems to be what is being rewarded the most.

The further the corps slips in the standings, the less relevant they will become and, eventually, be unable to attract any talent. What has saved them is the lack of options for performers. It sickens me to think of the Regiment as a feeder corps for anyone, but that may be what they become (if they haven't already).

Yes we need innovation, but is that something we've seen from the Regiment in the last five years? IMO, no, and that is the problem. Innovation and relevance go hand in hand. Don't throw something out there for the sake of throwing something out there, it needs to raise the bar of the activity, even if we don't like where the bar is set (massive props, singing, amplification, etc).

Better get off my soap box.

AMEN Rocketman.  I have been saying also.  Sad but true.
