I was curious what they were going to do. With WGI and now DCI canceled there really isn't a service to subscriber too for that price. Maybe I rejoin when BOA season rolls around if that isn't impacted.

If there is a BOA season.  Kirk Herbstreit does't think there will be a football season this fall.  Hope he's wrong.

Any idea as to what music would have been played in 2020, had the season not been cancelled?

The 2020 show concept & repertoire are stored in the Ark of the Covenant.  It is not to be opened until the time stated in prophesy ordained by you know who. 😇

They are releasing non-violent offenders who have completed at least part of their sentences first.

GH is accused of Sexual Assault.  This is a violent crime.  If convicted, he will not be assigned to a minimum security facility.

In addition, when it comes to "normal" parole, one big factor the parole board looks at is 'has the convict admitted his crimes & is repentant?'  So GH would also have to get over that (mental) hurdle as well. (I also understand that at this point he has pled 'not guilty', and is considered innocent until proven guilty.  But if convicted, he is by definition been proven guilty; at some time after that he would first meet the parole board).

Also, the Covid-19 outbreak will likely wreak havoc on the court schedule - so it may be a while before GH sees his day in court.  And no one knows what the Covid & Convicts (that has a nice ring to it) situation will be at that point.

It is also possible that he accepts the plea deal that has been offered.  But we won't know that until the next court date (currently listed as 16 April; suspect that will change) at the earliest.  I cannot imagine that in this day & age a plea deal for Sexual Assault would not include prison time, but I have been surprised in the past.

I can see it now.  "Covid & Convicts Cruise 2020" host by Carnival Cruise Line sponsored by the FY 2020 Federal Stimulus Package.

THIS is a GREAT job for the DCI office to coordinate!  Get every corps that agrees to rent it's kitchen to feed the people in the temporary hospitals.

Unfortunately, like food trucks, they'll have to coordinate to prevent people bunching up at the window, but this might be a way to generate income on assets for each corps that has a truck.

HockeyDad will be pleased, and I'm HIGHLY impressed that you (yes, especially YOU :whip:) came up with it.

Well, "they" say that I'm smarter than your average bear.  I'm still trying to identify "they".

Corps have buses, trailers, food trucks (unless they rent them?).... are there any assets the corps have that they can leverage for cash aside from just selling them?

What do corps have on hand to generate income? Online lessons by staff where they split the proceeds? Get the top local corps members (less than 10 of course... $1 to CDC) to produce high quality videos of small ensembles playing stuff they already have the sync and mechanical rights for, then monetize the videos on Youtube, Vimeo, etc.?  Do tiny 1 minute drill in a small room? I mean, there's going to be a LOT of corps fans DYING for corps-like content this summer.  And a gazillion marching band kids who couldn't finish concert band this year at their schools since they closed....

One of my kids messaged me today and told me he's bored out of his mind... watching old DCI shows. 😄

My first thought was that FEMA could hire their food trucks to possibly feed health care workers at the field hospitals that are being set up on both the East & West coasts.  Of course, the Army Corps of Engineers may already have this covered.

It was reported five days ago that Weinstein has tested positive for COVID19 in the upstate New York prison where he's been held since his sentencing. He's likely to have contracted the disease at the Rikers Island jail, where he was previously held and which is known to have had an outbreak. But prisons generally are going to be hotspots for this epidemic because of how crowded they are. Some states are already making arrangements to release prisoners who present the least risk to the public. Weinstein is very unlikely to make that cut, though.

All of this is probably weighing on Hopkins' mind, don't you think?

Here's a two-fold solution: the US government pays to send the lesser offenders on cruise ships until the virus is eradicated.  Then spread the violent offenders throughout the remaining prison space.  This will help the cruise industry & the prison systems.  (Editorial: I don't think we should subsidize the cruise industry w/government funding.)

Not in the least is it weighing on him.  His narcissism prevents him from believing he'll ever be Weinstein-ed.

I got an email from Ticketmaster that I’d be refunded for the show at Ford Field in Detroit.

I just canceled from finals 😞 FYI...

Hyatt House Downtown was a simple cancel.

Delta Airlines gave me an eCredit (per a refundable ticket) for future flights. Not sure when the eCredits expire. The travel insurance site claims no pay out unless one is infected with COVID-19.

Ticketmaster shows all my tickets as "postponed". I might assume DCI is still trying to decide what to do, or Ticket Master is overwhelmed and hasn't yet updated their system yet.

I haven't looked, but is there a (single) site from which to gift money to several corps? I could hunt and peck for individual corp sites, but was hoping for a unified front door.

    --tg

The only email from Ticketmaster is that their has been a change to my events.  Probably all computer generated, but my Events show 3 different actions:

    Detroit = Canceled

St. Louis = No change  (Maybe it's still a go?) 😀

Prelims, Semis, Finals = Postponed  (I'd love to keep these seats for 2021)

I'm going to cancel all hotel reservations this weekend but I'm going to miss Harry & Izzy's Shrimp Cocktail along with several other great restaurants in Indy.  Found a great gourmet burger in Detroit.  Basement Burger Bar downtown close to Ford Field.  :unhappy:

So, any chance corps would be willing to share this years canceled show concepts?

Not a snowball’s chance in hell. The 2020 concepts are going to be 2021’s show concepts. These concepts are already (mostly) paid for. Why waste that investment? I think the 2020 concepts will be clean AF by June 2021. (For the corps that survive.)

Video run time only :28 seconds.  :spitting:

    THIS IS HUGE!!!

Even "non-itemizers" can now get a charitable deduction of up to $300 for gifts to non-profits.

Initial analysis of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) (S. 748) reveals:

"Charitable Giving Incentive: Includes a new above-the-line deduction (universal or non-itemizer deduction that applies to all taxpayers) for total charitable contributions of up to $300. The incentive applies to contributions made in 2020 and would be claimed on tax forms next year. Section 2204. The bill also lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, raising it from 60 percent of adjusted gross income to 100 percent. For corporations, the bill raises the annual limit from 10 percent to 25 percent. Food donations from corporations would be available to 25 percent, up from the current 15 percent cap. Section 2205."

    (emphasis mine)

PLEASE!  NOW is the time to come to the aid of the drum corps activity!  Make a charitable contribution now of whatever you can afford!

Please see your tax advisor!  An "above the line" deduction means that your contribution is a dollar-for-dollar REDUCTION in your taxable income for 2020!  For a donor in the 10% income tax bracket, the effect is that you receive a $30 credit (10% of $300) on your 2020 Federal income tax, making the actual cost to the donor only $270 while your favorite corps gets $300!.  For a taxpayer in the 30% tax bracket the cost of a $300 gift is only $210!  The IRS is "chipping in" the difference to encourage your gift!  Please see your tax advisor and then make a $300 (or more!) gift today to your favorite drum corps!

(NOTE:  As of this writing, the US House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the CARES act as part of the Senate's overall stimulus package.  #PassTheDamnBill!)

And, larger donors also get an incentive in that they can now write off up to 100% of their income through charitable deductions to non-profit orgs.  Come on, Big Donors!  Step up and #WriteTheCheck!

Adding one more bus and 50 more performers would result in a net loss of $50-100,000, even after taking into account those members' tour fees.

    So no. 😛

What about adding 25 MMs & using a short bus.  The one in the video would be great for some of the rural southern show.
(Start video @1:30.  Just trying to laugh rather than cry; it's not as messy.)

Where will DCI get revenue to survive this season?

Telethons, road blocks, & a bake sale?  There's suppose to be grant money available thru the stimulus package for non-profits.  Hell, The Kennedy Center received $25 million without having to apply.  Hopefully some of those grants would be utilized for DCI organizations.

I will not ask for a refund from the Cavaliers for the Lisle show but I’ll take a refund from DCI for championships, Detroit, and St. Louis.

I'm thinking that the Ticketmaster purchases, i.e. Detroit, Mid-West, & Finals, will have to be automatically refunded due to the "beast" that is TM.  Then you can donate those funds back to DCI or a specific corps.  Donating the smaller event Tix monies will probably work with the DCI Ticket site & the tix sold by the individual corps.  Just speculation.

The corps have been planning on this for several weeks. DCI needed to formalize it with a meeting, and they were holding out until the member orgs all got to the point of realizing what the situation down the road looked like. They didn't rush it, they didn't drag it, they didn't "fail to plan" - they acted as a co-op should and gave the partners time to come up with a decision.

A few folks who obviously had axes to grind with the activity or their former organizations couldn't hold on to their crap, but that's not really anyone else's problem.

How did Star of Indiana vote?
