OMG, please stop with the drama.  Think this through.  We've data and experience that shows there are commonalities in symptoms.  My assistant went through the process yesterday because her Doc would not see her for her runny nose and 99.5 fever until she was screened.  (She and her young teen and toddler are a petri dish that catches everything in 500 miles.)  She was screened by the Covid screening team who asked questions and declared she did not have three of four common identified symptoms.

Why provide a test?  If you judge it worthy to test EVERY citizen, you do realize how many that is?  Is it reasonable to presume we should have that many test kits on hand all the time for every potential?

I think you're over-reacting.  "Face the music"?  OMG, as if there's not enough drama in life. Please don't create your own to share.  EDIT to add: "Facing the music" is harder when listening to show rep announcements here.  (<-- I like that particular snark a lot for humor.)

And WHAT does your RED RANT say about the topic of this thread?  Based on your comments, the season is doomed, DCI is dead and, likely many corps will fold as well.

My opinion (<--- get that?) is that drum corps need to approach their steps this season with exactly the opposite approach you're taking.  Throwing gas and burning everything down before the invaders arrive is not rational thought to me.

I want to be here for you, drum corps fan friend, but first you have to want to back away from the LOS 500-level railing and just enjoy a mustard pretzel like it's your last.

Nothing that DCI does now will change the course of events ahead.  You're vaticinating that you do know the outcome.  I trust that, if it's THAT obvious, the directors will reach the same conclusion (<-- a little snark).  And, while your munching on that pretzel, please prognosticate your vision on where the yield on the two-year Treasury note will be this time next week.  That would be really helpful, and thanks in advance (<-- a little capitalist-pig snark).

I include plenty of levity, snark, and my reality.  I do not mean to insult or pizz you or anyone off.

Wow; as they say, "it is what it is".  (Blue much more calming)  Not trying to be overly dramatic, just trying to be real.  A close friend is now quarantined from his bank job working from home & can't be tested until he checks every symptom box.  It just hit home last night.  After some 35+ years in education, our senior class may not be able to graduate.  It's just surreal to me & I also worry about our parents with their multiple health conditions.  We've encouraged them to quarantine in place but one of them is stubborn & thinks this is all a "hoax".

Also, I love computers, desk top publishing, arranging with Sibelius & Finale (Finale not so much), Excel, Power Point, & designing concert posters, etc.  (Also walks in the park, ice cream, kittens, & puppies.)  Bottom line because I'm a "bottom line guy".  This is serious.  As some say "In God We Trust; All Others Bring Data".  (Sometimes the data thing is not great for education; sometimes it is valuable.)  Triggered much?  (Not trying to "#### " anyone off.)

Love 'use' guys & look forward to meeting some of y'all this summer.  (Praying this summer)  But if not, I'll enjoy my $1000 check, that they'll probably take 25-35% for taxes, & I'll see y'all at the 2021 tour!

Although this was written to the citizens of Alabama, it is relevant to every one in the country.  Even more so to some in other states.  Please read.

    https://www.al.com/opinion/2020/03/renowned-aids-expert-alabama-not-prepared-for-major-storm-of-covid-19.html

Great read & some scary points concerning the behavior of COVID-19.  We aren't & were never prepared for an event of this nature.

  3. Well, one of my friends called me late last night.  He & his co-worker are quarantined working from home for the next two weeks.  They had a meeting at their bank's corporate headquarters with a compliance officer out of NY who started feeling bad while at their bank.  When he returned to NY, he tested positive for COVID-19.  The guy traveled from Laguardia to ATL.  That's how this thing spreads like wildfire.  So far, my friend & his co-worker are feeling OK, caching for symptoms, monitoring temperature, etc.

But, they called their primary physician and they could not be tested until they check off all the required symptoms.  Doctor told them there simply weren't enough test for the need in our area.  Face the music: our country was not prepared for a pandemic event.  (Not a political statement, but I approved the statement.)

I’m not going to be going to my nail or hair appointments so God only knows what I’m going to look like by the time the viral plague subsides.

There's a great meme going around that we'll know everyones true hair color in a few weeks.  Needless to say, my wife was not amused.  Keeping my hair cut appointment this morning.  (I think)  Gotta keep my mullet nice & neat.  I'd post it but I can't figure out how to simply post a jpeg picture on the forum.  (I know how to post URL, etc, but it doesn't seem to work)

FWIW, looks like the virus is has put the PA court schedule on hold until at least 14 Apr.  W/R/T the case we all are following, I guess we'll see when the next action will occur

If they have suspended for approximately 30 days until Tue, April 14th, I wonder if all scheduled cases are bumped for 30 days or if they'll reschedule just the hearings missed during the suspension period.  If the latter, then the Pre-Trial Status Hearing would still be a go on Thur, April 16th.

  6. Some encouraging articles breaking this morning.  Won't share link but you can use the  Googler.  Here's just a few:

Researchers in Australia have mapped the COVID-19 in the human boby which could lead to obtaining a faster vaccination

Four ways the virus can be eliminated

    POTUS pushes $850 stimulus package

Virus could bring down the current POTUS (scratch that) 😇

Salt water spray used in S. Korea to fight virus

Cases starting to decrease in China

This is really hilarious.  And scary.

A mod with two weeks of home-leave?  Scarier than C-19 any day in my book.

    (I kid, mostly)

I've been out of school 2 days & I'm about to go stir crazy.  Note: my wife is also a teacher; we're quarantined together. 😷😬

Or invited.  Or a corps director or a member of DCI staff.  Or a BoD member or a corps board member.

All of whom are asked at the beginning of every meeting to maintain confidentiality and to let DCI coordinate the messaging for the whole activity.

    But your mileage may vary.

Yes, but not in reality.   You must remember that stakeholders also involve the parents, grand parents, great grand parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, school teachers, Sunday school teachers, financial sponsors, etc of students all want to know about "Little Johnny" and his summer band.  😂 (That was tongue meet cheek - do you under stand that phrase?)  The only item that they come close to keeping "Classified" is their repertoire & some past sexual predators.  Now, please excuse me while I go check my 401k portfolio & purchase some Commodore 64 stock.  (You know, MOS Tech?)

Well scary news for the day if you think about it.... Found out nephew has to go to work as they are a bit swamped. He works at gun dept of a sporting goods business. He has to order a LOT of ammunition......

Our local news reported last night a long line at one of our gun shops.  I guess we're getting ready for martial law & the zombie apocalypse.

There’s been a lot of talk regarding whether or not the season will or should be canceled. But what happens if a large percentage of the members themselves (or their parents) decide they (or their kids) will not participate  in drum corps this summer? A lot can change in just a couple days but what happens members decide to bail at the last minute, regardless of contracts?

I wholeheartedly believe this will pass and eventually become a distant memory — story time for our grandkids and new additions to grade school history books. But as we live through this today, it would behoove us all to also consider the possibility that some kids or parents will decide to not participate in 2020 under the circumstances which could greatly impact the decisions that are being made and discussed right now.

    any thoughts?

It will pass sooner rather than later if people will take heed of the CDC recommendations.  As for marching members, I don't think that would be a concern with the older students.  Maybe with open class with the younger HS students.  But who knows; this is uncharted territory for everyone. I wasn't around in 1918. 😙

Oops that’s right I don’t have a “need to know”..... Lol.... only a paying customer 😈

Yep; I'm a paying customer & I've been asked to help with a tour segment for a corps where I use to teach.  Been out of that side of the activity for several years but I am temped to get back involved on the administrative side.  More comfortable bedding now days.

    Generational rift WSJ article

Interesting article in Wall Street Journal about "so-what" attitude of a number of millennials and younger.

What's going to prolong this event is this type of thinking.  A friend made a FB post  & tagged a local journalist about a concert still scheduled for tonight at a large pub in our area.  A morning show just played video of several large gatherings as well as folks shoulder-to-shoulder on the beaches in Florida!  Insane

And I missed the NCAA Men's conference championships this weekend & the selection show Sunday evening.  No NCAA tournament that normally starts tomorrow night.  Hell, I even miss the XFL!  A world without sports & the possibility of no DCI tour.  Now we've suspended school & church for at least 3 weeks; maybe more.  It's all surreal.
