And you've made the point that everything is hunky dory ad nauseum. I'm just trying to get you to understand that you have a positive outlook, therefore you're absolutely correct. And my outlook is not so peachy (significant improvement over last year but significant design issues relative to their competitors), therefore I'm lame and garbage and whatever negative descriptor you choose.
I'm intent on pointing out design flaws and perhaps leadership flaws. To fix those, naturally those in charge of those flaws should not be allow to continue to create those flaws year after year (especially given a substantial number of years to correct them and improve). My idea of building on the success of connecting with the audience is finding folks who can design a competent show that connects with the audience from day 1.
Frankly you get pretty nasty with those that don't agree with you - like what point does it serve to suggest that people appreciating the corps would somehow bother me? That really is an absurd statement.
This from the guy who makes a comment about Will PItts posting anonymously because someone is defending his position with Phantom.

Why does Will Pitts have so many anon accounts on DCP?
I remember a time when you wanted to march Phantom. IIRC it was your parents who didn't want you to try out.
This is quite unfortunate. I'm sure if you had the experience of being a member, your current attitude might be a little different.

Hopefully PR reaches out to him because whatever disaster is going on with PR's brass staff as a whole isn't working and could use some fresh ears.
It's not PR's brass staff that could use some fresh ears......

Sutasaurus can you please stop being rational? You stick out on here.

Yes, but FIRST how do they operate. I can tell from everyone posting here they don't understand their structure. I didn't either til I sat down for breakfast with someone that knows. People are pointing fingers without seeing the overall structure of the organization.
You talk of Phantom because that's your agenda. I am talking in general terms.

So are you to blame for Will Pitts being hired for positions he wasn't fit for?!?
Sutasaurus is to blame for global warming.
But not Will PItts. Or the Kardashians.

When a company fails to perform heads get chopped from the top down up to and including the board members.
When a company fails, one should look at the top as to what is happening. What are they allowing to happen to cause the failure?
That being said, if its a public company, perhaps the top will be replaced. But in other companies what happens is the top makes decisions to protect itself and gets rid of middle and lower employees. I've seen this over and over.

didn't he also do time with BAC for awhile?
Adam Sage doesn't seem to stay long with any group he works with.

Since Time and Eternity is the time frame, I really wish I had been there to see the Cro-Magnons defeat the Neanderthals.
Up until that point rules only allowed for the use of rocks and bones so the Neanderthals were unbeaten. A rule change to allow sticks along with the rocks and bones meant that Cro-Magnons gained the advantage and continued to pull ahead of the Neanderthals.
Their show "Walking Upright" easily beat the Neanderthal's show "Ugh."

In the late 1970s (from 135 to 128).
I thought DCI went from 128 to 135 and then to 150?
I don't remember there ever being a reduction in membership.

Any bets he used Jim Wren to throw ideas off of? I don't think WP has enough self-abasement to consider this.
Oh for crying out loud why do you even go there. You have absolutely no clue how WP approaches writing music.

And not just any mellophone player, either. He played the solo for Phantom’s “Nessun Dorma” opener in 1991.
Was he also the Mellophone soloist in Pagliacci? The one who loses the chicken on his helmut after the solo? Hard to tell. He was so much thinner back then.

Every time I look at the board, I swear I see "Collision During DCI Finals Week."

Bingo! JD was the soloist in Nessun Dorma.
That entire show was just so great. One of their best ever.

I've hear many discussions as to why the timbre's changed and I've tried to talk to knowledgeable people. The drift I've got from 2 people I trust is that it's not Jupiter's fault. I'd like to play one to get a feel for it personally. Could be arranging. IIRC, JD Shaw is a serious Euphonium player and groks the horn wonderfully. Have the new people been as understanding of that? I don't know, but I'll ask the question.
As for themes... Most themes people like are pretty simple on the surface, and then they discover inner meaning as it reveals itself. Sometimes, the design team isn't even trying to do it, it happens through great arranging and visual of that basic idea. Prime example of a well-loved show of late- Tilt. We're not talking some kind of deep existential journey there.
I thought JD Shaw was a French Horn/Mellophone player?

I hope this thread remains positive and constructive. The glass is half full in Rockford.
150 members of Phantom 2019 showed us how hard work pays off. Over 100 were veterans. The corps needs these young people back next year to continue the corps' improvement.
I'm glad Will Pitts is back. I hope he is allowed to concentrate on brass and that Phantom hires a new show coordinator as well as some new visual people for 2020.

This thread is comedy. Much like Will Pitts' idea of good show design
Never good to try to evoke a level of comedy in anything.
After all, someone thought "It's Pat" was funny enough to make into a movie.

Your comment about people who complain is spot on. Funny how they don't figure out that the louder they get the more people won't listen to them - so they think they have to get even louder or more insulting. I work with someone like that. Constantly complaining. People just learn to tune them out.

Did you march when the Seguin brothers were in Guardsmen?

I was able to do a little research on this looking at the most recently available 990 data. You will see that, the financial picture in Rockford is NOT comparable to top corps and, in fact, they spent LESS on staff salaries than any other corps in the top 12 (2017)
Can I clarify one thing - does wages include everyone up through to the full-time Director?

What evidence is there to suggest any sort of "rise up the ranks" without across-the-board design changes?
This past year. They had a better show than the last several.
I'm sorry my IT response triggered you enough to make you comment twice on it. I'm also sorry for not looking at the situation in the same negative light as some others. I'm also sorry that I don't want Will Pitts to be replaced.
Please forgive me. Do you want me to make a negative comment now? I wish Will Pitts would change his name to Will Smith because I always seem to write that and have to correct it before posting.
