I would agree with this with one caveat. It seems like they're milking old glory like a Holstein......UNLESS it works. When they pulled it in 2010, people pretty much threw babies. I almost expected to look up and see a beach ball getting bopped around. It just had a little bit of the old school vibe.

I too would rather see something fresh. But sometimes...rarely...but sometimes, it just works. This show, in this year, IMHO is not that time.

2010 was special in so many ways.

Of all the things Myron did in his life for Drum Corps, Phantom's show in 2010 is the one that affects me the most.  So much right on so many levels.  Funny how so little of that show was changed from the beginning of the season through to the end.  The introduction and exit were planned well in advance.

Getting closer to making finals isn't a victory. Getting closer to finals is the best thing for the kids.

This staff deserves to go. In finals or out.

Regiment's moral victories shouldn't be "making finals" or "beating spirit".

There's been enough time for this regime to show its true colors.

Regiment cannot just keep changing staff -  let the current staff evolve to see what they can show.  This corps is becoming like contestants on the Bachelor.  At least they get a rose.   Remember Leon May's early work with Regiment?  Look at him now.  A corps kept him and let him evolve.

I think Will Pitts needs to be outside of visual but I'm not saying get rid of him.  Brass and visual should not be combined.

I’ve seen June iterations of the Cadets that were dirtier than dollar whore on Sunday, only to go on to medal in August. That’s not to say Regiment is in position but... they’re, like, three or so shows in. No, it’s not where you want to shoot for but, c’mon— I’m, personally, happy to recognize that they’re at least improving and give some credit where credit is due. Sheesh.

    Keep on pushing, Regiment! SUTA!

I don't think PR has improved like this at the beginning of the season for several years.

Something about this corps just seems to defy expectations when you least expect it.

Fair enough the skit was goofy but designed by the Olympic folks

what an honor for the cadets

You and I agree on that.  1996 is one of my favorite Cadets shows.  The quality of that performance with no markers on the field.  I wish the audience knew just what an achievement that was with the complexity of the drill they had.

The Cadets had to take some time off to perform for the 96 Olympic Games closing ceremonies in Atlanta. They performed some of their field show on an unmarked field (sloppy) and did a really fun comedy skit with a comedian that I really enjoyed..."

I love this activity, but that skit was something I was hoping remained in the recesses of my mind.

Now I'll have to go through some EMRD to get rid of it.

  6. If Phantom doesn't make finals, the sun will still rise.

Thing is, of the many corps that have existed, this is one of them that still seems to always bounce back.  They have come very close in past years to not being around, but somehow they survive.

Next year's show should be called "Nine Lives."

Nick Scotella. Drill writer in 2008. Young, maybe even a rookie drill writer in 2008. Check out Visual and GE scores for 2008. They rocked!!!! He also was the drill writer in 2009. He was scapegoated after 2009, in my opinion. Yes he did multiple rewites all season. Not because of his inadequacies; but because concept of The Red Violin was being changed after each show. He did what he was told (by the more experienced staff) who were scrabling to contextualize that violin. The exact same staff put together by Pat.

So he completed the season with Phantom in 2009?

They didn't want 2009 to be anything like 2008. They were plagued with constant rewrites the whole season.

Gee - I thought they were plagued by a drill writer that brought out a sub-par product according to the judges which made the corps decide to almost "completely" re-write the drill from the beginning of the season onward.  Said drill writer got a lot of help with drill in 2008 from what I remember.

Yes they were plagued.  No, the drill wasn't that bad at the beginning in 2009 but someone or several people decided to rewrite almost the entire drill.  The rewrite made things worse for them because they could not recover due to the rewriting.

And for those lamenting about 2010 - it was quite a mess at the beginning of the season, but it eventually grew strong.  I remember looking at their first show with Myron's drill and really questioning their ability to handle what he had written (as well as their ability to completely fill their tuba line because it was full of holes almost up to the past half of the season)

    Crap...and nasty crap @ that.

A friend of a friend of a friend marched with XYZ corps and they smoked weed before and after performances. This is not valuable info to the discussion.

You've supported them for years.  Some of the others on here are the same ones who have knocked them for years. A couple of them were quite desperate for Dan Farrell to be gone saying how much he was responsible for something or other.

Now Will Pitts is the target.

You represent your corps and the experience you had with them well. Because of this I listen to what you say with more than a grain of salt.

  10. The show isn't that bad.  It's already better than last year.  There are some nice moments particularly the music in the last half.

There are some things I think are easy to fix.  The "bopping" during Vox Populi is very awkward.  They look like a bunch of nervous teens at a high-school dance.   They could do without the bopping.

The props look like Sukkot huts.  Its hard to make out what is going on at times.  At one point in the show "Joan" is on one of them with the corps surrounding her.  It's placed too far back for any effect.

I would also ditch the "I am Joan" part.  It's really cringe worthy.
