  1. Not understanding why it's assumed Garfield will fold if they lose this case.  Although all the money in the world can't make up for the trauma and harm of sexual assault the reality is the average judgment settles for under a million - it's not right, or wrong, just statistical reality.  The fact it happened 40 years ago will also come into play in terms of monetary damages.

Their insurance should be able to cover and if they end up folding it will be for other reasons, not this.

And some are more than happy to see some organizations fall as they are more than willing to gloat.

But those kind of people are miserable anyway and anonomous message boards are just an outlet.  We can't afford to lose Garfield, nor Santa Clara.  The vast majority of us want to see both succeed.

    Have faith, 2000Cadet.

Mods. I sincerely request this topic be closed.
There is a fair amount of false and misleading information.

No one from the Cadets will be able to respond to any of this, especially on social media, for legal reasons.
Also, the comments here on DCP could be used by either legal side and that would be unfortunate.

    Thank you.

Nor should they respond to anonymous people on an Internet message board as that's all it is.  And nothing posted on DCP, true or not, is going to be used in any litigation.

From what I read in one of court docs judge says  it is going to non-binding arbitration, results of which with either side can reject then going to trial.

That's too bad.  Non-binding arbitration is usually a complete waste of time and money.   It's expensive, time consuming, and rarely resolves the dispute.  At least one party will not like the results and pursue the case further.  You basically get to pay attorneys twice for arguing the same case.

And guess which group developed the concept of 'non-binding arbitration'?

Sounds like what some people on the Back in the day DC Facebook groups are like. “Corps don’t take in less talented or kids who haven’t played before”. Uh yeah reason is the corps don’t need to take in those people to have a full corps. And heavens forbid someone mention “audition”… just can’t get the idea that when more people want to join than max corps size a corps has to audition.

We were a small corps and our "audition" consisted of a pulse check.  If you had one you were in.

That's a stretch of a statement given a lot of people who were affiliated with Cadets at that time are no longer there. But hey, dredging up mitigated situations is always a great idea. And speaking of money "problems," I'm always curious about how many people on here actually donate to these corps.

Most likely 0%.  In my opinion those that post the most regarding Santa Clara and now Garfield actually care the least about those corps.  It's mostly self-serving, self-promotion, and self-aggrandizement.

I had all three discs from ‘74 but they are long gone, as is my tower of analog phonographic equipment. Man, that was a sweet system.

Still have my Kenwood system in its faux oak cabinet I brought from Circuit City in 1981.  Two wives tried to make me get rid of it (speakers are 5' tall) along with my records, but I held out.

They know now, but our grandkids used to ask "what's that crackling sound for"?
