his cancer was farther along than they ever led on. however Joe had power...and he used it. after the 2 losing seasons at the turn of the century Spanier tried to encourage him to retire, and Joe told him in no uncertain terms he wasn't going. Also, after the 98 investigation into Sandusky, he coud have barred from the teams facilities. Hell Joe didn't even like Sandusky.

Yeah Joe followed the schools rules. But with his power he could prevented parts of it 13 years earlier

I understand that, but it’s a lot of hindsight is 20/20. Especially considering that during the time it wasn’t necessarily as open and publicly encouraged to speak out.

I’m merely stating that it clearly wouldn’t be a comfortable situation and I could see not wanting to get involved or create an appearance of being involved. For fear of public retribution. Was it the right call in the end? No, but he did report what he knew. I place blame on those that chose to do nothing after that.

no. he was found to be not guilty. he followed school policy and told what he knew to the appropriate authorities. he left felt regret for not doing more, but legally, he followed all the rules. those he reported it to however....

This is one of those situations that angers me. This destroyed Paterno and I truly believe led to his death.

So many people criticized him, but he was a military man, you tell your supervisor and you don’t jump the line. Plus it couldn’t have been a fun, comfortable experience for him. He probably wanted nothing to do with it and I guarantee there’s many many people who would’ve acted just the same. He did was he needed to. The rest of them failed the system.

  3. Without all the snide comments, this is a nice idea. It’s just how can anyone trust anything that is going to involve anyone who had responsibility in the Cadets organization.

Again, I’ll back Colin McNutt, or I’ll just donate directly to the corps.

Yes. I completely agree. This idea of blocks/bricks/lines/whatever they are seems like it could lend to a visual program that is much more concrete and physical than the last 2 years. And there is no better song for an ultimate culmination than "Lost It To Trying." They are designing this show with the end in mind, which really gets me excited.

And the shift to red at the end of the video? A possible uniform change? Maybe props that change color? I'm gonna go crazy over the next couple months.

While listening to the source material, I’ve also considered it to be a deconstruction theme potentially.

These selections and the video graphics give the impression that this show will be a bit of a callback to the kind of stuff they were doing pre-2018, and I'm 100% here for it. I can't wait to see what Thrower and Rarick will cook up from these tracks.

It's also nice to see them release the repertoire list. I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers they actually announced their selections ahead of time in 2016, 17, and 18. They just kept the title/theme under wraps until opening night. They stopped announcing repertoire in 2019 because the music gave away the theme of the show. And technically, every year since then the show theme has been present in the music selections themselves. 2022 - the whole show was based around Taming the Dragon by Brad Mehldau, and 2023 - The Garden of Love by Jacob TV.

Just from the visuals in the video, the idea of “four sections” by Reich, a percussion heavy source material, gives me vibes of a “frameworks” theme. Something foundational with build and ultimate culmination.

Just got confirmation. Agape will be the 2024 ballad for Mandarins.

As BD, BC, & Mandarins have an Agape throw down, the Troopers enter the discussion with House of the Rising Sun, featuring a Johnny Cash-esque vocalist.

It’s going to be a fun summer

I haven't heard anything so far. My son has been very hush-hush.

All he told me was that Sinnerman is only the beginning.

Mandarins have their first full ensemble this weekend.

Flomarching with Mandarins just released the artist names of the source material. Along with playing Agape by Nicholas Brittell in the background of the video

Yes.   This partnership seems to fill at least part of the gap between Corps medical staff, who primarily deal with orthopedic injuries, and obvious ‘go to hospital now’ situations.   Also, idk how hard it is for Corps medical staff to write a prescription for antibiotics to treat sinus infection when Corps is on the road.  Can someone licensed in California write a prescription in Allentown?

Like I said in an earlier post, reliance vs opportunity. This provides the opportunity to subsidize current in place practices and medical staff.

yes, we have to be picky about who, what, where, and when. An activity devoted to musical and marching activities for youth has to pay attention to ethics and standards.

I’m not critiquing corporate sponsorships or partnerships, I am questioning this particular business. Walmart is not known as being a good employer nor is it known for retaining employees. That’s not as  important a factor if the busses stop at Walmart so marching members can stock up on food, health and beauty items, socks, etc. but is it optimal for medical care? Perhaps it’s anecdotal but a Walmart near me had to close its pharmacy for a week because they could not find a pharmacist and pharmacists were stretched so thin, a substitute from another store could not fill the position. People had to travel to the neighboring store for refills and no new prescriptions were accepted at that store. Maybe in the South, Midwest, West Coast Walmart Health is the urgent care equivalent of the Mayo Clinic, but I’d be cautious.

I think your complaints more come from reliance versus opportunity. Would it be smart to rely on this arrangement? Not at all. But to subsidize established practices and utilize where appropriate and feasible? Great arrangement.

Full disclosure: I’m not a Walmart fan and avoid it like the plague. I also never heard of Walmart Health until today. CVS has minute clinics and there are plenty of Urgent Care facilities in my area so perhaps there’s not a market for it in my neck of the woods. My question is what kind of care do you receive at a store where self checkouts are now the norm, finding employees who can actually help can be difficult, and the company has a reputation for underpaying employees who are not valued? Are corps better off only relying on Walmart Health as a back up?

For years people have been saying corps need to get in bed with corporations to stay afloat. So DCI goes and does that, but now we have to be overly picky about what, who, how, when?

Without being able to see the agreement we can’t know exactly how much benefit there is for the activity, but if we want this activity to survive, thrive, and provide more safety and this agreement does provide a net benefit, I’m all for it.

What is legally wise and what is morally right are sadly not the same thing.

Agreed. But legality dictates here. The best thing is for when this particular case is all said and done is for DCI to come out and say through all of it they worked on strengthening policies and here’s the rule of law in DCI going forward. Wishful thinking, but that’s the smarter route.

A statement that the membership was revoked and why.  A declaration of commitment to safety.  An explanation of DCI's values and what the activity actually stands for.  A demonstration of public leadership from the top down of what their priorities are and what member corps are required and and expected to do to protect minors and young adults.

Off the top of my head.  Sorry for the angry soapbox.

    Mike

Seeing as they are currently included in the lawsuit, it makes sense to not say anything.

Any chance the DCP admins will bring back the thread they removed of my pointing out Cadets were in regulatory violation of state law by failing to register as a charity?

    Pretty irrelevant now

I’m for justice for victims of sexual abuse etc, but it seems to me that the only outcome in this lawsuit and going after any entity with the Cadet's moniker would only result in this and thus they get nothing monetarily. This is not like going after a mogul or the Catholic Church with deep pockets. It’s a newly formed organization that technically had nothing to do with the very unfortunate events from 42 years ago.

Especially when the details of the organizations actual involvement in the assault is questionable.

But again, the end result is what they wanted.

GH getting some 'shout outs' on the social media comments. Glad some folks still realize his contributions to this situation. 😡

I mean according to the lawsuit this would’ve been pre GH I believe. Sure the GH stuff was bad and damaged the corps, but up until this lawsuit the corps was loosely financial stable enough to keep going. At least on a season to season basis.
