  1. mellos and baris. I agree with more mello solo's but mellos are usually always gonna be grouped in with trumpets unfortunately. Bari soli's still happen as well just not quite as often. Trombone has just added a plethora of musical repertoire that has been untapped for quite a long time. Mello and bari soli's have not been replaced, but they've been put on more of the back burner for now. It will probably stay that way until the designers are bored with trombones. I think about it in this way, since 2013, there has been infinitely more mello and bari features than trombone. DCI started in 1972 and drum corps itself has been going on way before then. Its gonna take a while for the hype of a new instrument goes down.
  2. what other instruments do you want to be featured more?
  3. I made sure I used the word "extensively" to make sure I avoided the pitfall of "so you dont like trombones" When saying used extensively I mean when this do the one of the in my opinion 2 things trombones offer. Glissando and timbre. Using a trombone extensively to me is using the 1 of those 2 things, in this case the glissando. Without the glissando, the trombone only has it's timbre to offer or why would corps use them? The reason why I talked about other instruments is because they all have their niche things to offer. Picc trumpet - timbre and ease of the upper register Flugel horn - conical projection and timbre Concert euphonium - timbre Sousaphone - timbre If so many corps are using trombones, they MUST have a reason to use them no? Its either going to be in a way like SCV 2014 or the plenty of instances of major glissandi which BG said they clearly have an issue with
  4. Ok, I now understand you just dont like trombones used extensively. Why would the judging community have a problem with it?
  5. I say wait until you are 18, If your parents trust you enough to go to college full of adult males, they should be ok with you doing DCI. This may not be the answer you want or need but if you tell your parents 2 years in advanced when you are much closer to adulthood they might be more understanding Sorry for your situation and hope they let you march 🙂
  6. so youre mad at the frequency? doesnt make sense to me. Most shows have screamer, mellos ripping through the ensemble and other "gimmicks" Do you want arrangers to write no glissandos or make talk to other corps in advanced to make sure that there is a limit to trombone glisses? (idk if that's the correct plural form of gliss)
  7. that would be like judges calling out trumpets for screaming or mellos for doing rips.
  8. When Bloo was still at IWU, we saw a swarm of bees fly over us during vis block
  9. usually people on staff play both in their lives outside of DCI. It's the same with the members learning bari euph while their main instrument is trombone so it leads to some ease in making a switch to a feature or solo section.
  10. what a phenomenal program that was! Blue Stars are consistently a standard in the drum corps community in my eyes for their brass and visual program. Hearing it live just brings it to another level and really shows how high quality the MM's are to be moving how they do while playing anything the directors throw at them! Such great talent and pedagogy has made them into the stars they were reaching for. Looking forward to next year Blue Stars!!
  11. they were still able to have a great visual program despite this. Crown just needs to make sure to have a solid vis program around large sets pieces, or have a small set to maximize field usage.
