This might be viewed by some as an example of why this has happened but what I find interesting is the opinion of those that are glad of this decision. Very interesting. We could have kept the load on moderators light by having a little thicker skin and by reducing the size of your sacred cows list but apparently that wasn't possible for a small and very vocal group some of whom were very good at dishing it out but taking it... eh not so good. Yeah better to tear it down for everyone rather than leaving it standing for those that still found it entertaining and informative. Sad. It is certainly within their rights to close the place.

To add to what Tony said I also like discussing CE here because most other political sites are slanted towards a particuliar POV and posting is typically either a me too or a troll situation. In here the prevailing POV changes with who is here at the time. Drum corps people come from all over and have many different political, religious. etc backgrounds. It really has been valuable to attach real people to ideas and points of view that I would rarely encounter in the real world. Too bad. :(

The problems aren’t in the same ballpark but the vehemence with which people attack anything outside of their preferences seems to be very similar to politics. Do we really need the Ann Coulters/Michael Moores in drum corps? It really is ridiculous.

But you have to admit that some are attempting to stretch beyond the limitations of the form and others are willing to play it safe. Also when you look at other accepted art pioneers even Picasso (I’ll spare you Warhol) borrowed from art forms and used other art forms as his inspiration/launching point. Can you walk away from ‘Demoiselle d'Avignon’ and say eh, its just naked chicks wearing some African masks? Now I don’t know if we’ve seen a Picasso yet but I don’t know that I’m willing to dismiss the chance that we could. Personally I thought the SCV show from 2003 may not have been there but was heading in the right direction.

I know I’m way over my head in this debate but why do people feel “it’s only drum corps”? Are you saying that real “art” is beyond the capabilities of the designers and performers or that drum corps itself is limited and not capable of creating/displaying art? Also criteria such as totally original music must be met to be considered a pioneer of art? I really don’t get all this.

I played in the old indoor show in 1970 at MSG. #### it's hard to believe I'm that old.

I've been using the flugel model in my Dynasty mello for years. works great.
