  1. Blue Devils at Show of Shows in Rockford is happening for the first time since 1985! A huge crowd will be on hand Thursday. For those that thought last year was a great crowd... :) Greg ps. You can still get tickets in advance: 815-540-9737
  2. Time flies. I forget how old I'm getting, Chris! They all look so young these days. :) Greg
  3. Both of Phantom Regiment's drum majors are ageouts, and no one in the snare line has been a member more than one previous year (there are three second-year vets and six rookies). All of the snare drummers are in college. Fetus is not your typical 15-16-year-old drum corps member as he has grown up in the activity -- mom and dad both teach drum corps. Greg
  4. Without having seen them, I'd bet they were simply saving money by using the signs they use for their fall marching band show. It may not have been the term you wanted to see, but I bet everybody knew where to park, right? G
  5. A couple comments... No, the concert side of Calder was not "almost sold out" -- not even close. It was about a third to half full. PR had a significant ensemble problem early in the closer. It got back together midway through. PR won all the music captions and visual performance. Scouts won the GE captions, ens vis and color guard. It was 61 degrees when I left the stadium after retreat. BTW, Appleton is amazingly cool downtown. If you didn't know better, you'd think you were in downtown Chicago, seriously (except for the tall buildings). LOTS of bars and restaurants, tons of people, too many cars for the parking places. I was amazed. I went to five bars in three hours. No, I didn't get drunk. There were a TON of bars I didn't go to. It was quite a scene. Did I say it was amazing downtown? Greg
  6. Oh, and Cadets hadn't been here since 1983 or 1984 (I can't remember which) before they showed up last summer. Greg
  7. Nope. Cadets were here last year. BD in 1985. SCV may have last been here in 85, too. That's why we're excited to have BD in Rockford this year! A lot of people are thrilled -- so many have never seen BD live and/or in Rockford. Now if we could just convince SCV to get off their butts and come to the Midwest for first tour next summer!!! Greg
  8. Robert: What was the last year BD was at Show of Shows? It was while you were marching, I'm almost positive. I know it was prior to 1987, and I'm thinking it was probably 82 or 83. Greg
  9. It went well. Forecasts were for bad weather much of the day, but it turned out to be about as perfect as it can get. A crowd estimated at 700-800 was in attendance and seemed entertained and excited about what they saw. The full show was performed on the field (minus a little bit of guard work) and, after a 10-minute break, the corps set up in concert formation and played the show again to a most-appreciative crowd. Elsa's Procession capped off the evening. Mike Robinson, a former TV news anchor in Rockford and now PR director for Rock Valley College, was emcee. Donations to help offset increased fuel costs were solicited with fuel cans being passed through the crowd between the two performances. People were generous, and the organization is most grateful for the assistance. There are still three full days of rehearsal at Winnebago High School and a short day Thursday along with a concert performance before the corps leaves on tour at 5 p.m. Thursday. The first show is Friday in Menasha, Wis. Don't forget: Show of Shows in Rockford on July 8. Phantom Regiment, Blue Devils, Madison Scouts, Colts and many more. 815-540-9737 or www.regiment.org for tickets. Don't forget this, either: Drums Across the Tri-State in Huntington, W.Va., on July 12. Phantom Regiment, Madison Scouts, Crossmen, Carolina Crown and more. 800-495-7469 x3 or www.dci.org for tickets. Greg
