I go there every time I’m considering seeing a movie.  I’ve seen two really good ones in the last month.  One of them, I had already read the book.

I always check the trivia and goofs. 😆 Also great for watching a movie or tv show and “who the hades is that?”.

Lol actually follow someone on Instagram because of what I found on IMDB. Along with acting and motion capture work lady does a lot of stunt work… for kids  (She’s 4’ 6”). Posts some interesting stuff from her work and has a good sense of humor

Dubious?  The guy who uncovered G7 before anyone? Hmmm okay.

Thinking of an old vaudeville doctor routine:

    ”you’re a doctor? I’m dubious “

”glad to meet you Mr Dubious “

IOW oblivious to what’s going on. Meaning the Reddit post talks like this is something new 🤦‍♂️

That info's available on the charity registry website. It's at least a couple.

That info's also available in their tax filings, but I'm not able to dig through that right now. There's been turnover in many seats, but at least one has been there long past best-practices term limits.

Relatively unknown. I used to think they only hopped-to 'cause we went public, but I now believe they've been aware of this problem for at least a year. Still curious how they square that with soliciting and disbursing donations, something that a delinquent NPO in Cali should never have done.

I'll refrain from personal opinion here, as I explained one of my concerns already above.

You mean like the current CFO? 🙃

Thanks but I was just thinking out loud and didn’t expect an answer. After seeing the Reddit comment got thinking how long and involved this has been.

LOLwut. Is the tea too hot?

The letter is available, dated Nov 16, at the online charity registration website. The same place this info has always been pulled from. For the umpteenth time, search for Vanguard/VMAPA under organization name and see document listed as "RCT-451A-S Delinquency Notice - 2nd." Plain as day.

Some of us have justifiable reasons to believe the final word of the governing body over the organization.

How long has SCV been working to “get that matter resolved “?
Also that “not so little” issue that the governing body has the final say and not the organization (SCV). 🤦‍♂️

The latest DOJ letter says they have 60 days to file all remaining paperwork. I think that still aligns with their projections to complete audits and everything else required. Now we get to take their word that everything will align, or not.

So that takes us to mid January 2024.
How many times has SCV submitted paperwork that has been sent back for various reasons? How many different BoD members have there been since paperwork was submitted correctly? And how long have they been trying to get their audits together?
Or perhaps the question is how many long term BoD members are there and do they get involved in this process? IOW possibly clueless but refuse to step away (have seen it elsewhere)

The other part of the equation is statutes of limitations in jurisdiction where Corps is based.  The Cadets was the tip of the perfect storm, with MeToo movement leading to temporary suspension of SoL.   Different states have different rules.  This will likely limit legal actions, but from a moral standpoint yes, Corps should be thinking about, and ashamed, of what went on in the past.

I had SoL in mind too. But as we have seen the limit can be changed. That’s why I was thinking corps looking over their shoulders

Well, you know, DCI didn’t have authorization to do anything unless it was given to them by the corps directors. DCI is the corps and can’t enact any regulations on its own and all that. Apparently DCI is the organization that schedules the tour and lines up the judges and that’s it.   We will find out whether the legal system agrees.

Question I would have is what might have been reported to a corps and/or DCI and basically ignored. Don’t need a policy saying “no abuse” to be held liable for that IMO

Oh you know it.  The McHenry, Illinois dustup is legendary.

Oh not those kids in the Junior corps 😈. Knew a guy who marched in the 50s with a local Senior corps in PA. “For retreat they would stick us between Archer Epler and Reilly Raiders (2 Philly corps) to keep them apart. Yeah like we would have stopped them”.

A lot of corps moved out to the suburbs back then.  Norwood moved to Skokie.  Vanguard moved from Logan Square to Des Plaines.

That was due to sponsorship changes from what I could tell.
lol same reason the WESTshoremen were later located in Harrisburg which is the EAST shore of the Susquehanna.

In addition to what you suggest, I would like to see any allegation, of any type of direct abuse, be reviewed by the corps' legal council and he makes the call whether law enforcement should be contacted.

Sad thing is you just described what happened at Penn State with Jerry Sandusky allegations. PSU did their own investigation and found nothing that should be reported to outside authorities.
IMO it’s a conflict of interest to have someone paid by the corps to decide if there is a problem within the corps.

Thinking of my college in the 70s. If any crime occurred on campus it was hushed up for school’s reputation. Took a state law to make the students aware and safer.

I just remain curious how other professions mind both employee confidentiality requirements and maintain such databases for safeguarding purposes.

    Ding ding ding winner IMO.

Some people act like this is new territory so DCI has to be overly careful in what they do (or do nothing). Other groups have faced this problem and are handling it without being sued out of existence. Also where is the DCI legal team to advise how to enact (and act upon) protection measures. Or is DCI “the corps” so every corps is on their own?

    Three Stooges bit:

    Moe: One for all

    Larry: All for one

    Curley: Every man for himself

However if an allegation turns out to be false and someone is denied employment, the liability for both the corps and DCI could be huge.

That’s why I had “under investigation” in my database example. Corps could see that and go at their own caution.
Never worked with an employer that dealt with youth. But would think they wouldn’t be hired until cleared or hired with understanding if found guilty they would be fired.
Different world but worked DoD with a security clearance. If my record was clear I would be hired. But if I didn’t pass the security checks… bye. And of a potential employee had problems with those conditions then don’t bother applying.

edit: and chance to do pull my “this ain’t the first time it happened” line. Anyone know what other youth groups do if someone accused of wrongdoing (but not found guilty/innocent yet) wants a job? Sure it has happened before.

That sounds feasible. This all goes back to informed consent, to me at least.

If the types of info (or info itself) is not available, then young members and their loved ones are signing onto a situation that's tenuous at best. One in which DCI and corps can't be held accountable for not following their own policies. It looks like Spirit was genuinely putting in more effort anyone else to rectify this, but still too late. They remain the new standard in policy/procedure though. Still wish there was time/energy available to report out about how their policy/procedure played out in 23. I assume there just isn't.

Of course Spirit got their act (apparently) together after they got hit big time and BoD was changed (IIRC).

Still think it would be a deterrent if DCI would have a database of (suspected and proven) harassers/abusers so corps could check when looking at a potential new hire. Of course it would only be a deterrent if people know it exists.

Database could also include status of any investigation, IOW accused, being investigated, found innocent, found guilty, etc. I worked databases for 25+ years and biggest hurdle IMO is making sure people who know the contents keep their mouth shut unless a corps makes a valid request.

So I haven't done an exhaustive search of corps policies, but I have taken a serious glance. SoA is the only entity in the field that summarizes and publishes their reporting process here: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/623653a05116d4602aa6880b/t/63487fb41f8ba61283a6bfe4/1665695697355/SoA+Reporting+Tiers+2022 It's available under their SpiritSafe link. So, while the policy is clear, what is ideal about this is that it's published and available for all parties involved. That means informed consent of this policy and procedure is possible. Not so with other entities.

Am also curious whether MAASIN/PAASIN is still providing whistleblower services. I couldn't find a link to it anymore on their website... or even mention of it. Would love clarification, 'cause they were gonna be the other entity I'd include here as an example. Well, whether they continue or not, what I appreciated about their process was communication and control. They were always very clear about next steps and who they recommended including in the conversation. No surprises. They also have me, as the whistleblower, some control over those next steps. It was very refreshing, given the sensitive nature of the info I was sharing. Sad to see that go if that's what happening. I'm also unclear as to any formal affiliation they may have with DCI. Everyone here on DCP has continuously indicated how much DCI cringes at their very existence. Curious.

Thinking it’s like DCI is ashamed that these services are needed so nothing is said unless necessary. Including the info of what types of info DCI uses to protect members.

Note: I said “types of info” not the information itself

I signed on to the class action, but have heard nothing about a settlement.  If it’s approved, i expect i will get my $0.16 in a few weeks. 😂

Reminds me of the .04 check I got when I switched my mortgage. I kept it for a laugh and month later got a letter. “Our records show you have not deposited the check we sent you so…”. Also enclosed was another .04 check. 🤦‍♂️

is MAASIn officially linked with DCI?

i mean given the sensitivity of the *issue, nothing public would be made known no matter what happens....unless someone felt it wasn't handled correctly and it ends up here, Reddit, Instagram, Twitter etc

Agree MAAS wouldn’t release info to general public. But brings up the question if someone applies for a job with a corps, how would that corps find out if that person had problems elsewhere? Other than background check how could a corps find out?
And if the corps where problems occurred keeps their mouth shut about it.🤔

Well, I’m a retired military officer.  Been through quite a bit to obtain & maintain security clearances.   Most of this, save application fee, in fact.

Taking for granted FBI still has my  records even though I’m retired and no longer have a security clearance. Late wife’s Cousin works for FBI and joked that he’d check my file when he went back to work. My in laws heard that and kind of freaked “why would the FBI have a file on you?” 😱
