  1. Great news, Gene. So good to hear that she is up. I will keep her in my thoughts.

Thanks Mikey. She's having a nuclear stress test today. And one more positive....they don't believe, at least at this point, a skilled nursing facility is necessary. They seem to think inpatient rehab is the route to go. Many thanks again.

  2. Been kind of vague about Patty's situation but to make a long story short....again....your prayers have been heard.

Just to fill you in....she had 5 strokes on her right side and one on her left side. When I was there saturday they moved her from CICU to a step down unit. She was still moving forward sunday afternoo. One of our daughters who lives in the Pittsburgh area (Carneige to be specific) told me just moments ago they had her on her feet. Don't know if it was the Cab's CD or Steel City's. BUT....she's up. Don't stop the prayers cause, as good as they are, don't think it was the CD's. ( but then.......

  3. Thanks Ray. Not really sure we've ever met except here on DCP. Found a CD the other day I had been looking for. Purchased the LP years ago. Kenny Rogers (arrainger Lionel Richie) a song called "Lady". If you love your wife as much as I love mine....find it ...buy it.....

Thank you all again so much.

Patty continues to improve. Nary a step backwards. Everything moving forward almost exponentially.(or so it seems) Very optomistic. Many thanks for your Prayers.

  4. Steel City Ambasadors

    Grey Knights

    White Sabers

    Mon Valley Express

    Keystone Regiment

    Lake Effect

The show will start at 2PM as part of the June 16th DuBois, PA Festival. There will be a parade following the show to begin at 5PM. This show is free to the public and paid for by the DuBois Firemen who are the hosts to the parade, this show and the Festival. This will be the first ever SDCA show in Pennsylvania. DuBois is about 1 hour east of the I-79/I-80 junction, right off I-80. I hope all of you will be there. We will be using audience judging, bring your smart phones. This will be a lot of fun.

Shako's Off (hat's as it were) to you Tom. What a great thing to see by a person such as yourself to come into this area and basically take charge and promote Drum Corps'. Havening known you...performed next to you...I know it's not for personal gain. Gotta respect that. Sorry I can't be beside you at this particular time but know this....our city, county, and most of all the Drum Corps' community applaudes your efforts. Till we play together again....

  5. More good thoughts and prayers being sent your way, Gene. Keep the faith.

    Ray

  6. Good thoughts and prayers coming to both of you, hope the improvement cotinues....

Many thanks Jim and again to Glenn. Had a really nice email from Fran Herring too. Never thought I would be in this situation but more than ever I can really appeciate what you went through and probably continue to go through.

Patty continues to improve even through a miriade of what I call a sequence of mis-diagnosis' ranging from pnemonia, to pulmonary hipertennsion, to heart problems, to dyalisis, to being a candidate and sent to Pittsburgh for a liver transplant. Sorry if I go on an on. There's more but, thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers.

  7. Great to hear something good happening for a change.

Here’s hoping for continued improvement for your wife Patricia.

Let the prayers and whatever it takes keep working.

    Glenn

Many thanks Glenn. She continues to improve albeit slow but, improvement non the less.

  8. Not sure this is appropriate but I need to thank the entire Drum Corps' community for the outpouring of concern and prayers for my wife Patricia (a.k.a. "WMOM" official videographer of the Erie Thunderbirds and Drum Corps' fanatic). Without going into specifics suffice to say, given her current situation, is improving. Prayer is a very powerfull thing. No....I'm not a religeous fanatic....not even a particularly good practicing Catholic. But....something good is happening here and just want to toss out a simple "Thank You".

  9. NOT AT ALL!!!!!!..............I dare say, you will only find a horn in as good of condtion, right out of the box with the plastic on it,..........

Many thanks to Sean and Gary for their comments. They know me well. (again....it's an OCD Thingee).

  10. 1. It stoped being "real" drum & bugle corps when they added valves and rotors to the horn.

Actually; rotors and valves have nothing to do with the name of the instrument. It's the overall design and characteristic quality of sound it produces. Trumpets for example are primarily of a "cylindrical" construction. A Bugle is of a "conical" design. they produce different characteristic quality of sound. Valves and rotors merely allow more accessible "notes" to be added to the Chromatic scale playable by the instrument. There are Bb Bugles. There are valveless, Field Trumpets.

AGREE...but, here we go again. Bugles vs Trumpets vs Key. Who cares? I like "G" because of the conical shape of the horn and the sound and coverage it produces out of doors. Sure...it doesen't slot perfect but, to me Bb is a crutch for slotting. Nothing beats a challange like a good ear. DONE. The End.

  11. I guess it's that time for me. I am the original owner of this horn. s/n 32476. Has only been either in my hands or in the case. Never on the ground or even on a horn stand. Touched only by me and with gloves. (it's an OCD thingee) Autographed with my name and Erie Thunderbirds. Asking $810.00 plus shipping. No dents, dings, polishing swirls. Thanks for reading.

  12. I have for sale (original owner) a Pre-Umi King Silver Flair Bb trumpet made in Eastlake, Ohio S/N 667623 circa 1970's. This sale will include: Original case, the trumpet (well duh) Cup mute, Straight mute, Bucket mute, solo-tone mute, harmon mute, plumbers (wa-wa) mute and Hamelten horn stand. No scratchs, dings,...pretty much perfect.

Asking $1,200. plus shipping but will consider offers. Also have a Rudy Muck 27C if interested.

Really hate to sell this horn but, considering the Horn talent in Erie....well.. you get..right?

  13. Nice post today on Face Book by Drum Corps' World regarding Bonnie Ott. Deservedly so. My question: How does one learn how to do Lip Trills? What is the practice regumine. Been playing a horn since 1954 (trumpet, Mellophone, blah, blah, Blah,) but never asked till now. Is it a gift...? A certain tecnique...? What..? I'm 68 years old now so I'd like to learn this ONE thing while I have the time.

    Thanks.

  14. Yes, the weather does not look good, but the show goes on unless there's a decision made by DCA to cancel. Don't expect that to happen unless there's lightning in the area.

Alumni corps don't perform for scores, but for the audience. I really hope that the fans consider that before deciding to sleep in and blow off the show. Alumni corps work as hard as anyone to bring a quality product to the field and our only reward is the applause we receive. While canceling the evening finals would be a disappointment for everyone, playing to virtually empty stands or having the alumni show canceled would be just as disappointing if not more so. We haven't played a note in the stadium yet. Let's hope everyone gets a chance to show what they have to offer.

I hope I see your face when I'm standing on the 50.

Thank you for saying what you said. In 2006 during Ernesto was the first and only performance of the Erie Thunderbirds at the Alumni show. We were the first on and thankfully the die-hard fans were there. We were very proud to be a part of this show (with 56 horns) and we thought we had a "Kick-###" performance.

Until this year I have never missed an Alumni show (health situation) and I thank you again for your comments.

  15. If you knew even one single thing about sound equipment you'd never post such drivel. In the real world, electronics and amplification equipment is perfectly safe in rain and rainy conditions. The problem is standing water. That's where the danger lies, specifically cables laid through standing water (not necessarily shallow puddles either). Then again, what do I know? I'm just a trained sound tech.

DCI cancels, delays, or adjusts shows based on the safety of the performers and audience. For the former, it means field conditions. Here's a little known fact for you...some types of artificial turf are actually slicker when wet then they are when dry, making it dangerous for the performers. Just because it's "turf" doesn't mean it's safe to use during a downpour.

But then...........if it were just Drums and Bugles....
